Neville’s Return | Benzema’s ‘Interest’ | Sven Urges Bitters to Show Respect

Tag: Manchester United News @ 10:15 am

Captain Neville returned to action, finally, in a reserve game against Everton reserves yesterday. And guess what, he scored!

He played 45 minutes without too much trouble. One hopes his run out does no damage to him this time. It’s good to see Neville return and hopefully, he should be back to first team action before long. A bench role against Newcastle may be far fetched, but he should be able to make it back to first team action towards the end of January if he makes good progress from now on.

The English papers seem out of ideas, as one would expect from them, and this time they infer from Benzema’s recent comments that he intends to play for Manchester United. ‘Benzema tempted by United’, declares a Sky Sports headline, but these are his actual quotes:

Milan makes me dream. Also because Ronaldo [the fat one] is there – he’s my idol. He’s from another planet. But I also love Juventus, Inter and Manchester United – the big clubs. What’s important is to win. I would leave Lyon only to continue to win and when I also feel ready mentally.

So you see, United is just one of the top clubs that he would love to play for. Since he spoke to Gazzetto dello Sport, Italian clubs made the list of his ‘dream’ clubs, apart from United. Tomorrow L’ Equipe could interview him and he will probably praise his fellow Frenchman Arsene Wenger and say how good a place Arsenal is to play football. Until there is a concrete bid, or voices from our club, nothing is really going to happen. At least not in January. Or for that matter, until Fergie sees him first hand when we meet Lyon in the Champions’ League.

Sven Goran Eriksson will attempt to tell Citeh fans to show restraint and behave when we mark our 50th Anniversary since the Munich Air Disaster. Thankfully the match will be held at Old Trafford, and not the council house. The City fan ticket holders will be given a letter from Sven and Dunne along with a poster of ex-City goalkeeper Frank Swift who, in his capacity as a journalist, was one of the victims of the air crash. It will be hoped that they manage to curb their infantile urge to bring up those despicable Munich chants. Of course, since it is a minute’s silence that United plan to enforce — unlike the one minute applause seen these days — we’ll have to wait and see if the victims get their due from all fans.

Also it will be good to see the retro style kits, shorn of any advertising, during this game.

And that’s about it for the day. For those wondering where the rest of the half time season report went, don’t worry, they will be posted in a couple of days.

Oh, and what the hell is wrong with Newcastle? They know no patience, do they? Do they really think getting a clutch of new, albeit average, players, can win them a fourth place in the first season under a brand new manager? Do they really think they are better than the likes of Villa and Pompey? Don’t fans have any patience these days? Let’s pray for Shearer to come over and get them relegated with his clearly superior tactical acumen — as evidenced by his impeccable punditry. Seriously, how stupid are these Geordies?

Unfortunately for us, we will be facing a club with a new manager, and we all know how difficult such games can be. But more on that later in the Newcastle preview.

  • One of the reasons why Newcastle has not won anything for the past 30 odd years is the inexplicable pressure exerted by the fans. They expect a bit too much, I think they are the most demanding and the least patient fans in the entire country. Sam did not inherit a particularly good side, there is not a single match-winner among them, and the players that he brought in did not particularly aid his cause, namely Barton. I think no sensible manager would take up the Newcastle job. They sacked Bobby Robson ’cause the chairman believed that finishing 4th was not good enough for a club of their ‘stature’, Souness sacking was probably more justifiable but Sam surely deserved more time. Ok, he tried to bring in his own brand of football, and it did not work as well as it did at Bolton, but how well have Newcastle been over the past 3-4 seasons? It is evident that they don’t deserve to be in the top 4 or top 7 of the Premiership. Maybe the time has come for Shearer to step in, that is what the fans want, and probably he would atleast bring in some form of stability to the club, if not any trophies.

We are facing a team with a new manager but thankfully it is at home so I think we should not have too many problems, Rooney to score again, United to win 3-0!

  • Im more nervous about this Newcastle game now. We all know what happened at West Ham in Dec 2006. I just hope a new manager isnt installed by then (Which is likely as its Thurs already)

  • red ranter and ttotade first of all shearer has already denied it on bbc’s website

secondly ttotade it not that newcastle fans are demanding its the 11th manager sacked this year in premiership so the whole league is very demanding and i hope it never happens but if after sir alex if man utd stumbles and we can’t find a good manager and all the good players start leaving then man utd fans will also start acting just like them and we’ll be changing managers left and right already in history of man utd it has already happed b4 sir alex arrived

and the main point is its not the fans but the greedy chairmans who remove the managers coz the are not giving instant results but then i cant complain the best example is sven and thaksin’s man city if they can do it new castle should have done it .

anyways chk out this article and u’ll know a lot about what goes between chairman and managers

and last the match with newcastle will be won i expect either a 1-0 or a 2-1 win not expecting many goals as newcastle is going to park the bus in order to play for a draw but i guess we have enough fire power to score

  • if newcastle want to be like us and be in the top 4, they need patience, some off the older readers would know that when SAf came in, it took a bit of a while before we became a force, he was on the verge of a sacking, but we were patient and now we are 1 of the greatest teams the world have ever seen. take a note out of SAF’S and take thats book and have a little patience toon.

  • I agree with the Newcastle analysis but to tell you the truth I really don’t care what happens in Tyneside. I just hope the recent actions have weakened them enough to give us further advantage them.

  • I’m sure most of you remembered that not too long ago, in the 2005/2006 season, just after the Glazers’ takover in the summer, during the Roy Keane (ranting on MUTV) episode, in the midst of a poor run without scoring goals, losing to Blackburn (at OT) and Boro, and finally crashing out of the Champs League qualifying round, that some fans were calling for Fergie to retire or even get the sack.

It was a silly time in my opinion, but not that different from what has been happening at Newcastle and even at Liverpool now. Some of us Man Utd fans have been spoilt by the tremendous amount of success we have enjoyed in recent times and not everyone has been a patient fan. Winning the title again last season certainly helped but it could have turned out a lot differently if we had not win the League.

    Just look at Real Madrid

  • indianpunk, I am just saying that the Newcastle fans need to be patient, and have some faith in their manager. As I said previously, it is good to be ambitious but if you don’t have the same kind of quality on the pitch to complement your ambition, it is not really your manager’s fault, and even less so, if the man has been at the helm for only one half of a season. I can still remember the way they treated Sir Bobby Robson, who was shocked when he came to know about his sacking first on telly, and then from his chairman. All this because a No. 4 finish was not good enough for a ‘big club’ like Newcastle. Newcastle has been the biggest joke of the Premiership, dating back to the Keegan days (I’ll love it! I’ll love it!! ;-) ) and unless they lower their ambitions or bring in a better batch of players to support their ambitions, they would continue to be so.

  • well ttotade Ur right on that front bro but Big SAM was making a lot of changes and not getting the right results but yes i believe he should have lasted the season and then maybe they could have trusted him to bring some more talent in summer but at the end of the day its shit hell we care about what happens at newcastle if UTd keep Winning i dont give a hoot at what happens at other clubs anyways

the greedy glazers are making big money and in the process did one good thing that is overtake arsenal turnover figures
