Manchester United have hit back at Real Madrid over their accusations United were to blame for David De Gea’s failed transfer to the Spanish capital.
Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, Real released a statement claiming they had done all they could to ensure De Gea would be a Real Madrid player by midnight on Monday, suggesting United should shoulder the blame for failing to complete the deal.
However, United have since released a club statement to rectify a few points.
Manchester United have completed the signing of Anthony Martial from Monaco for a fee of approximately £36m.
The 19-year-old made 70 appearances and scored 15 goals for Monaco since joining the Ligue 1 side in 2013 and has represented his country from Under-16 level to Under-21, before being called up to France’s senior national squad for the first time late last week.
Real Madrid have released a statement to explain what exactly went wrong with David De Gea’s proposed transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu.
On Monday afternoon, the Spanish international looked set to finally return to the Spanish capital after a summer-long saga, only for the deal to collapse as the required paperwork was not submitted before the end of the Spanish transfer window at midnight.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, Adnan Januzaj completed a season-long loan move to Borussia Dortmund.
The Belgian, who will be reunited with former United teammate Shinji Kagawa, was backed by Louis Van Gaal to be an influential figure for Manchester United this season as little as two weeks and was in the starting XI against Aston Villa, when he scored the winner, and Newcastle.
Manchester United’s unbeaten start to the campaign came to an abrupt halt away at Swansea, as the Reds surrendered a 1-0 lead to suffer their third consecutive 2-1 defeat against Gary Monk’s side.
After a brisk start in the first half, United were lucky to be level at half-time but hit the front early in the second half, as Juan Mata netted his first goal of the season to give his side a 1-0 lead. However, Swansea bounced back and scored twice within five minutes to condemn United to their first defeat of the season, as doubts over this squad’s future begin to mount.
