Porto it is then…

Tag: Manchester United News @ 4:27 pm

United perhaps have the better draw than some of the other big favorites for the Champions’ League. They’ve drawn with Porto, who are a far cry from the side that sneaked past us last time round, whilst, we get to face either Villarreal or Arsenal in the semis. The other end of the draw makes for exciting viewing; well, at least Bayern-Barca will be mouthwatering, can’t say much about Liverpool-Chelsea.

All your thoughts, predictions, etc go here. I’ll try to put up an early preview of the Fulham away game, as I’ll have to catch a flight.

Here’s the draw, if you’ve not seen it yet:

Barça – Bayern
Liverpool – Chelsea
Man Utd – Porto
Villarreal – Arsenal

Semi-finals.

Barca/Bayern v Liverpool/Chelsea
Man Utd/Porto v Arsenal/Villarreal

Over to you folks.

  • @edwin: But why not get a second hand system, and pay for a years subscription of safe reliable online play?

  • @Dan: Well, firstly, Im pleased with what I am getting out of my Playstation, ive had it since release day, its a wonderful piece of kit. So is the 360 no doubt. Also, my social sphere is PS3 centric, and nothin beats playin online with you mates. This may be seen as following the trend, but I was one of the first (out of my mates) to get it.

  • Plus, there are the money issues. I threw myself behind the PS3 financially, and it hasnt dissapointed me. Ive only got enough gaming money to get me the essential games, like COD:MW2

  • indeed i feel Fergie has an astounding record of world class wingers over the years!! ESPECIALLY NANI

Craig, just imagine how incredble it would be if Nani started remaining league games and won us the league in that time. you know, goal in each game…….iv been dreamin bout it personally!! Think it would be incredibly fitting…..i have incredible confidence in the boy regardless of what any one says…… lets keep our fingers crossed bud!!

Despicable- you mis-understood, i have plenty faith in the lads….just not the Gaffer and Coach!!!

  • @realred: Yeah because that’s likely  Even Craig wouldn’t be that deluded as to think he could score in every game. Ok then lets sack Fergie, bring in Rijkaard because he’s done so much more in his career than the most successful manager in English football history  every manager makes mistakes.

  • @Liam: hope you enjoyed our Grand Slam win on Sat, I know i certainly did. That was some game of rugby wasn’t it? Do you agree that some of the United players could learn what it means to wear the shirt from the performances of the players on the Irish Rugby Team?

  • @Dan: Sorry Dan but games are not being made in Blu Ray format. Games play based on whether your tv is in normal mode or if you have it hooked up to operate in HD format. You are not the only expert in this area. When they start to make Blu Ray based games, then that would be another story, but to my knowledge none of the PS3 games are Blu Ray based, just HD. I talked to my friend who works for EA Canada (FIFA 09) and he agreed with me. It’s the tv that matters for gaming because the XBOX for example has no Blu Ray technology in it. And tests that have shown the difference in graphics between 360 and PS3 shared titles has shown the XBOX is either even or slightly better than PS3.

Incidentally, I am not a fan of Blu Ray because I feel a lot of the movies that come out in that format look like shit and the technology is overrated. Sony just won the war between them and HD but HD was a cleaner
and more efficient system without the sluggishness that many Blu Ray systems show. As for gaming, we aren’t yet ready for super HD or Blu Ray because the game systems (360, PS3) do not have the capacity to handle those kind of graphics. The next generation systems that are secretly being produced as we speak will deal with Blu Ray in an efficient and spectacular way. Two to three years away for the 360′s heir.

  • @Stephen: Great point. I really am tired about the crying and moaning about what kind of punishment is or isn’t being dished out to opponent players. I look at the numerous times Ronaldo has escaped unscathed when he clearly deserved more and even Rooney has deserved more. The one that does upset me is the 4 games that Evra got for absolutely fuck all. Bottom line, the FA is not playing favorites, they are just idiots.

  • @edwin: Yes but what is gaming without Halo or Gears of War? PS3 has one title all we 360 fans would like to play. That’s clearly not incentive enough. 360 RULES! Also I laugh at the history of the PS3 as it went through developmental Hell and no major US gaming company wanted to touch it at first.

  • @phoenix red: This is what I have been bitching about for over a year and I have been told by many of you that I am misinformed or just a fear monger. Thanks for the article because I have made many of the statements in that article myself before. And you wonder why our transfer kitty seems to be shrinking. to all of you, read the article and understand how the Glazer’s operate. I’ve been smelling trouble for a long time because of what the economic downturn was going to do to these guys and how it was going to royally fuck up the greatest football team in the world.

  • RR I don’t know where the heck you are and how busy you are but I have to speak for myself when I say that I am getting really fed up with the slowness of this thread due to it’s high number of entries. It’s frustrating typing out something and finishing 30 seconds before it shows up in the box. Please take a few minutes to create a new thread. By the way, wasn’t there some kind of contest months ago when you were on holidays that was going to name some people to help you by submitting articles? :???:

  • @Grognard: Groggy, I’m dissapointed man.
I give you a great response (which was actually quite funny I think), and this is all you can come up with?
“Sometimes some of you guys amaze me. You are like MI5 agents who carry around a dossier on all my comments so that when the time comes, you can use them against me to defuse a bomb.”
Due to this opening paragraph, the rest of your post had no impact/meaning at all. I know what you are trying to say however, Stephen explained the point of view very well in his comment.
(I know attack is the best form of defence, but this is like Anderson having a one-on-one with the keeper  ).

    Back to the point…
Since when is getting frustrated at a referee’s decision a bookable offense, or poor sportsmanship. With that being the case, ALL players should be booked ALL the time (especially slave everytime he don’t get a free-kick). If Rooney did not say anything to the ref, and he did not throw the ball at the ref, nor away to hold up play, then why the free-kick? Did they have some sort of laser technology determine that the speed and power of the trow was over-the-acceptable-limit? (maybe if he threw it with 2.005 psi less force, he would have been safe).
Like you said, call a spade a spade. The booking was silly.

What you expected/describe of Keane is exactly what Rooney is/did. Yet, you lambast him for it? I know Rooney is hot-headed and immature, but in this instance, I cannot fault him.

  • @Grognard: Metal gear solid 4, uses blu ray, Little big planet uses a blu ray disk, both resistance games use the blu ray disk, developers ARE making games based around blu ray.

Out of the 3 games i listed, only one can be made on a regular HD-Dvd, the other 2 would just be ports.

  • @Grognard: Your anger is fully justified. New post up, with reasons explaining. I suppose, I don’t have too many excuses as they will no doubt be unsatisfying for most of you.

  • @Red Ranter: RR, trust me mate, it wasn’t anger, just frustration. I fully realize how busy you are. Cheers

  • @Dan: I trust you as I am not a PS3 man myself. Interesting to know because what my friend is telling me is that they may be on a Blu Ray disk but the game manufacturers are not actually utilizing Blu Ray tech. Placing a game on a compatible Blu Ray disk is not a real problem. The games you mentioned are no better graphically than 360 games played in HD. Little Big Planet? Sack Boy in Blu Ray? What’s this world coming to.

  • @Karl: You know Karl I just don’t get it. Do you have a zoom feature on your tv? If so look at Rooney again. He got frustrated with the referee for being picky about a free kick being taken over again as United took it too quickly for his liking. Rooney has never liked it when Refs do not let things go the way he likes. We are down a goal and he is desperate to get things going and the whistle clearly pissed him off so much that he just picked up the ball and threw it with rage and anger because he felt the referee was being a prick. Well the ref was being a prick but that did not give Rooney the right to act like a petulant punk. You and so many United fans want to look at things from rose colored glasses because you don’t like it when one of our own is being picked on. The fact is United fans are turning a blind eye to something everybody not connected to the team agrees was an act of petulance and immaturity. I’m truly tired trying to make you and all the others see things as they are. And at the risk of sounding conceited and arrogant, I will say that all of you who are sticking up for Rooney are 100% dead wrong. I do know how you feel though because I am a massive Roger Clemens fan in baseball and I refuse to believe that he took steroids even though the circumstantial evidence and witness hearsay makes him look very guilty. So I am willing to compromise my logic and my ethics if I believe in the cause. And I believe in Clemens. I guess I’m just not that loyal to Rooney because I refuse to condone what he did as well, I refuse to believe that he did anything but warrant a red card for his childish act.
