Possebon Loan ‘Cancelled’; Returns to United?

Tag: Site News @ 9:34 am

If reports in the Portuguese media are to be believed Rodrigo Possebon, who was loaned out to SC Braga, has returned to Manchester. Google translate is not the best, but according to this link, he’s been axed because of a squad trimming exercise by the coach.

I also saw it mentioned on the United Youth site in its roundup of our loanees. It’s a bit surprising it hasn’t been mentioned in the main United website.

Anyone who has any updates on this, do share in the comments.

  • @Dan: Grow the fuck up and stop acting like petulant ignoramus. You insult them you insult me for living here. In other words because I live here my views are meaningless. I could say something right now Dan but I’m going to refrain and show some class and some control. This is out of respect for the others and especially for RR.

  • @Footy4Eddy: I know its hard dealing sickness in the family.

I have like 5 aunties and 4 uncles, and it seems all of them have some sort of illness. I lost one of my uncles a few months ago to bowl cancer, it was hard.

My mother is a bad diabetic also, not easy at all.

Believe me, i know what you are going through, but i grew out of it, im sure you can to.

As for the clubs, if one of the 4 elite clubs are english, and not liverpool, take it. You will get noticed by united playing for an english club, just like rooney did.

If you are not sure about the clubs, do some research, see thete current squad and see how many players were brought up from the youth.

But im sure you will make the right choice, and we will see you 2014 world cup

  • @Footy4Eddy: I am really sorry that your life has suddenly hit a lot of problems Eddi. I think RedRanter has given you some good advice there, but I just want you to remember that there is no problem, no mountain that is insurmountable or unsolvable. No matter how many clubs have come in for you, what you don’t need to do IS LET THEM RUSH YOU INTO MAKING A DECISION. What is meant for you, will not pass you by Eddi, so don’t rush into decisions without taking all the time you need to come to peace with any decisions you make. The love thing will eventually take care of itself! We are on your side Eddi.

  • @Footy4Eddy: Has this got to do with football, school or women? If it’s got to do with women I am going to fly to Norway right now and knock you over the head. If it’s the other two, patience, discipline and common sense will get you through most problems mate. You are a good bloke and from what I know of you, you can handle most anything. As Al David of the Raiders used to say, PRIDE, POISE AND A COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE, is a motto you should live by and it will never steer you wrong. That and a few beers and the occasional piece of tail.

  • @Footy4Eddy: Italy huh? Well, please correct me if I’m wrong but as a young and ambitious footballer, wouldn’t living and playing football in Italy be better for your development in the sport as well as your overall potential? I give you the example of Owen Hargreaves. Born and raised in Calgary Alberta, he could have stayed and become Canada’s greatest footballer but he would never have developed his game and his skill set had he not left Canada at 16 and went to play in Germany. Germany made him a world class player. Had he stayed in Canada, he would never have achieved that. Nothing against Norway but when it comes to developing great footballers, they are not in the same universe with Italy. And from what you have said, you sound like another Roysten Drenthe Filippo Melo all in one. I think Italy would be great for your career ambitions. And trust me, it’s a beautiful country and has incredible looking women. Food for thought their mate.

  • @Dan: The English media thought it was a dive too mate so either way, you can hate the whole world if it makes you happier. Actually, the North American sports media is excellent because they are not tabloid driven like in England. They deal in facts and do not create rumors and BS for the sake of selling papers and air time. Something to think about when you put them down. And many of the ones who discuss “soccer” are very astute and many of them originate from England or other soccer playing countries.

  • Mmmmmm according to mail on line, Le Havre say they have documentation from the parent of Pogba that Man United paid the parents of Pogba 100,000 Euros each, and gave them a house. They promised them the lad would get £15,700 pounds when he signed his pro contract at 17 yrs old. Le Havre said that they have sent the documentation to FIFA with their official complaint. United have denied it, and said that Pogba wasn’t under any contract with Le Havre, so hasn’t broken a contract. Who the feck knows what the truth is, we shall soon find out no doubt!

  • Eddy, trust me mate, if you are as good as you say you are, and I have no reason to not believe you, you would get noticed by Manchester United a lot more if you played in Italy than if you stay in Norway, despite Ole’s influence. United have a massive scouting campaign going on in Italy.

Its great how you use the english media to back up your point right now(even though you’re wrong) but at every other opportunity, you bash it for its BS and bias.

    Is that not double standards?

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Craig Mc: My concern is that if the lad was misleading United and perhaps lied to them, it’s United who would be blamed. From what I read that is one of the problems that Chelsea is dealing with is the lad they signed lied to them about not having anything signed with the French club. I fail to see how United or Chelsea should be blamed for a young player’s dishonesty but it’s a lot like having someone do your taxes. If they do it wrong, you still get the blame for it in the end.

  • @Craig Mc: Bullshit. They cant have a legally binding contract to players under18. He didnt have a contract to brake.

We merely promised him the money if he signed for us, we negotiated with his legal guardians, who are responsible of pogba, not le harve. Pogbas parents agreed to our deal, end of. If pogba agreed anything with le harve, it doesnt matter, because we agreed the deal with his guardians.

Le harve them selves can be looking at some sort of punishment, they are not suppose to legally bind any player under18. If they say they didnt, whats all the fuss about?

  • @Grognard: Le Havre have said though, that they rang Brian McClair academy director, and told him that that Pogba and his parents had signed a pre contract agreement with them. But that United went ahead and brought the player to England anyway. United have said they are not worried, as their lawyers were involved in everything, and they did things in accordance with FIFA regulations. So the truth will out – somebody is telling lying whoppers Grog  .

Whether that is against FIFA regulations or not though, I don’t know that it is? I am not sure IF a boy is not on a contract with a club, and is moving to English club, that it would be inconsiderate to put remuneration into the contract for family resettlement. Who knows what the exact regulations allow as part of contracts – I sure as hell don’t  .

  • @Footy4Eddy: Wow! Wow!
Lots happening there for young Eddy…

I can only echo the thoughts of the others. RR is right about Italy having a culture of not giving youth a chance – Macheda got his break at 17, while Giovinco is starting to make headlines at 22. That’s 5 yeas difference…

Even more important fact that you should take into account is the actual culture prevailing in the country. Will you get homesick once you’ve settled in a new country? Will you (and your family if they are planning to move with you) adapt to the new surroundings?
Remember that holidays are quite different from actual emigration.

I agree that you should do some research, and if possible get into contact with some fellow norwegian living/ having lived there. Google is your friend. As well as embassies, who can direct you to fellowships.

Also from what I’ve heard/read Scandinavian countries are deemed to be the “most developed” and “progressive” countries in terms of quality of life and good governance/sustainability (if that means anything to you). You should consider that certain countries would maybe be a step down in terms of lifestyle.

I agree with Craig and Dan – maybe you should “provoke” your own luck by sending a video to Ole.

Anyhow, best of luck to you! We’re all behind you mate!

  • @Craig Mc: A pre contract agreement cannot have any power or validity behind it otherwise it would be a binding contract. And Le Havre were not allowed to get into any binding agreement with the lad due to their country’s laws. So if there was a pre contract agreement, for me it’s nothing more than a promissory note and not a legally binding document. Paper that’s not fit to wipe ones ass with

  • This is rich. I read where Fergie has all kinds of praise and is so impressed with Diego over at Juve. Christ, I was bringing up this player’s name last year. Where was Ferguson and his cheap ass two months ago when we could have bought Diego from Bremen? Yet one more case of the boss having his head up his ass and not trusting scouts and others when it comes to talent assessment. He needed to see Diego’s one man demolition last week of Roma where he scored two goals in order to jump on the bandwagon. This is a classic case of the man being too old for his job. Keeping up with all the talent out there is a young man’s job not a man nearing 70. Just watch, he’s going to offer Juve a lot of money next season to get Diego when he could have got him for half the money this season. And after only one season, I seriously doubt that Juve will sell. Perhaps that is why Fergie came out in the media and was full of praise for Juve’s new manager. Kiss his ass right now and he may be willing to sell you Diego next year eh Fergie?

  • I’m no sure how to class the rooney incident. I don’t believe it was a dive, more of it should have been given to the other player. Rooney actually fouled him imo.

@Craig Mc: I agree with the Berba theory. I don’t think Nani did anything wrong. Our team chemistry became messed up due to finding a way to fit Berba. And, as you say, he needed a scapegoat.

@Dan: On the other hand, none of those players ever get the stick that he does

    @Dan: Richardson ring any bells?

@Footy4Eddy: Seems like you have a lot to think about?
No one can make your decision for you, because at the end of the day, you need to live with the consequences. I was once given some wise advice when faced with a similiar predicament. “Become calm. Ponder your options, and then make your decision. Just make sure that you are HAPPY with your decision.”. Regardless what your decision is, make sure that YOU ARE HAPPY WITH IT. No regrets. You cannot predict the future, but you can ensure that the decision you made was the one that You were happy with. Screw everyone else. Red Ranter gave you some very good advice. Forget about being a fan. You have a career ahead of you and now need to make a career decision. At the end of the day, things will work out. You’ll see. Good luck!

  • @Grognard: Was rooney a dick, yes. Are his actions forgivable, no. Was that a dive, well, my first reaction was no. He appeared to lunge at a ball he knew he wouldn’t get to, that’s perfectly acceptable, i felt the ref was to blame for the decision.
But in light of new information that he felt he had been tugged and so went down, that is simulation because the tug wasn’t enough to get him to the floor so he went down on his own. He’s a cheat but even the best cheat, messi did so with his hand a couple of years ago, ronnie, maradona. Only kaka seems to play good clean football.

  • Grognard, the mind boggles at the amount of future stars we must have missed out on. I always felt that for a club of our stature we should be signing more of the up-and-coming stars. People argue we don’t have the pulling power but I think it has more to do with the fact that Fergie won’t take a chance on any young talent until he comes to Old Trafford and scores a goal or has a good game.

Ribery we could have probably bought before he went to Bayern. I even heard we could have got Zidane but Fergie wasn’t sure what his best position was so didn’t make an offer. I’m sure there were countless others. Diego is class and you’re right im sure we’d have been able to buy him.

Much as I love our policy of poaching every 16 year old who can kick a ball, I wonder how many of them will turn into superstars. Very few Im guessing.

We are not a poor club. We do have a certain pulling power. So why aren’t we getting these “one move away from world class status players”?

Oh yeah we bought Nani and Anderson. I like Nani as a player but for the price we paid we could have got Ribery. As for Anderson I would love to know the other clubs circling around him like vultures that forced us into an early move. He is an ok player but certainly wasn’t worth the money we paid for him.

  • OK, this is going to be a little controversial as many may disagree with me and other may not give a damn but I will mention this anyway. I am very disturbed by the fact that two of the worlds footballing super powers may not qualify for the World Cup in South Africa. Both Argentina and Portugal have done all they can to shoot themselves in the foot yet I cannot help but feel that these two nations not being there, makes for a much duller tournament. Think about this for a second, before you rant against me and say that they don’t deserve to be there.

The fact is that the world game has developed over the past 60 years and in all that time only a relative few clubs have won the World Cup. Seven in 60 years. Argentina has won it twice and although Portugal have never one it, they have always brought good teams to the tournament and performed well for the most part. Add to this the strange anomaly this time around that there is now a very strong chance that the world’s two best players will not be at this World Cup. Now tell me honestly, is that good for the game to have the premier showcase event being held without the two best players being part of it? I have to be honest, it’s beginning to bug me.

Yes I know it’s a team game first but make no mistake, the game is driven by stars and it attract millions because of the stars. The thought of Ronaldo and Messi and even Aguero not being part of this World Cup is just a joke. Which brings me to my other point. Why does a team like Argentina even have to qualify for the World Cup? I honestly believe that football is a game based on reputation and long tenure. Therefore I believe the nations that have had the greatest success and given the international game the most wins, stars and great moments should get a bye into the World Cup.

Right now 32 teams qualify for the WC. I say that there should be eight seeded teams and the hosts that should automatically qualify without having to play there way in. Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina, France, England, Netherlands and Spain should all get in automatically. Why because they have tremendous international records over the past 60 years and because all these teams have won major trophies and are consistently at the top of the International game. It’s all about pedigree. Frankly these clubs have history and pedigree and therefore, the World Cup needs them to be able to showcase their event. Let the other nations fight it out for nineteen spots. Some might think this is unfair but life is not fair. Football is entertainment and above all it’s business. People are more apt to go see a movie with big stars as opposed to movies with complete nobody’s. No Messi, no Ronaldo, no fun. Not good for the World Cup, it’s image, it’s showcase event and not good for South Africa.

All those nations have earned their right to be seeded and to automatically qualify until they have a long period of losing and mediocrity like two time winner Uruguay have suffered over the past 40 years or so. Make those world rankings count over a period of time. The way they seed teams in the Champions League. Champions should really never have to qualify again. Like in many major golf tournaments where the winner of a tournament get s a life long exemption from qualifying

The game is still a massive marketing tool and to not have the two best players in the tournament is truly sad. And you know why this has happened? Because these great players have not excelled for their nations of late due to them having to play too many club games in domestic seasons that are too long and that burn players out. Frankly, they have nothing left to give at the international level and it’s hurting their countries chances. Sad to think of World Cups without Pele or Beckenbauer or Cruyff or Maradona or Charlton. Instead Ronaldo and Messi will have to sit at home like George Best did and watch mediocrities from Asia and Africa and Central America get blown away and meanwhile their great football nations are sitting at home because of a run of bad form or bad form brought on but too many stars from each of these teams just being to tired to elevate their games for their countries. Sad and a black mark on the game. At least I think it is. If only they never had to play all these qualifiers during the season and saved it for a month after the season when they get a little rest and are fresh to go.

  • @Grognard: I do your point there, the World cup would be a lesser competion certianly without Argentina, Iwill say not sure about Portugal, the only reason they will be missed is because of the “slave” not being there I am not sure the tournamount would miss Nuno Gomes, Simao or Maniche.

He would have put more chances in for the strikers than all their other wingers/playmakers put together. Imo, portugal have no right being there if teams like denmark are gettng the better of them. They’ve fallen of the radar, big time, despite having ronaldo in the side.

The World cup should be about the best teams fighting it out, not the teams with the best reputations. If argentina dont qualify, they have no body to blame but them selves and their incompetent manager.

One more wih each for Chilie and Paraguay and they are there with Brazil. I hope Argentina falls behind Colombia and Ecuador, as the do not deserve to qualify by beating New Zealand or Bahrain in a play off.

Portugal have been rubbish the entire campaign. Serbia deserve to be there ahead of France who have also been rubbish.

The World Cup is to find the best team in the world over 2 years of qualifying. If you can’t even qualify you don’t deserve to be there, no matter how many superstars you have.

  • Craig Mc. Don’t worry I’m also a Nani fan! But just imagine if Fergie had bought Ribery instead and we’d had Ronaldo and Ribery on the flanks the last couple of seasons! Long term I think Nani will end up as good as Ribery. But I do wish we’d signed Ribery as well when he was playing in France!

Anderson Im not convinced how much his lack of progress has been to the coaching staff, Fergie’s insistence on playing Giggs and Scholes rather than blooding Anderson, and how much is just an innate lack of talent and a bad attitude. Anderson is an enigma!

From the beginning it was obvious that Nani had the skills just like Ronaldo did when he came to the club. It is the discipline and the decision makings that takes time to develop.

But Anderson showed signs of being able to boss a midfield when we were all expecting the next Ronaldinho! But then that ability seemingly deserted him in his second season especially in the CL final (although Carrick was equally shit).

As Fletcher has emerged as our defensive midfielder of choice (with the eternal hope that Hargreaves will provide reinforcements) I say give Andersonthe license to make forward runs and see if he can help out Berba and Rooney. That is the only way we will know for sure.

Im not going to read too much into his game against the Wigan reserves. There are loads of players who look amazing at lower levels of the game but cannot reproduce it on the biggest stage.

Both Nani and Anderson deserve a real chance to prove themselves and the best coaching possible. But after that it is up to them and time will tell if they become the next Quaresma and Denilson (the Betis guy) or the next Ronaldo and Ronaldinho!

  • @colver: Your very wrong about Anderson not having the talent mate – he has so much in his armoury, that he changed my seeing him as nondescript, to seeing him as someone with great basic skills. There was something in Andi’s game that I spotted in that reserve game, that cannot be learned Bro. Ole Gunner obviously thinks so too, because he said Andi will be a great player for United, he has so much to offer! With regards to his shit, lazy, not serious enough attitude, I will agree with you there. That could indeed be his undoing, as it was with Ronaldinho eventually. Andi is indeed a playboy, and word around OT is that his fight with Macheda was because Andi moved in on Kiko’s girlfriend  . So he needs to get the message, plenty gorgeous ladies about, you don’t tresspass on your team mates playing field  . Andi needs to clean up his act, and get dirtied on the pitch for United instead  .

  • @colver: One of those clubs was Frank Rikjaard’s Barcelona. The reality is I think all these other great players would have suffered either way because of our poor technical field. We don’t possess competent people to deal with the technical side of the game. That’s why it’s only at United that we fear signing Latin players(the fans I mean) .Most of us somehow believe that South American players aren’t suited for the Premiership. But the truth is they only fail at United. Look at Liverpool with players like Mascherano,Chelsea with the likes of Alex, Arsenal with Denilson, Gilberto Silva was a huge success for them , Man City are enjoying success with Robinho(a literally lightweight player) and so forth. Ronaldinho did well by going to Barca because of their superior techniques in training and in play. With the way Torres seems to drift wide a lot, he may have suffered the same fate as Rooney had he not chosen the Pile. Zidane would have simply and I’m completely convinced about this ,become the biggest flop in the history of modern football had he chosen us over Real. The same way Veron suffered due to role change which favoured Paul Scholes.

Now I’m not just bashing our beloved club, but I’m just pointing out reality. A lot of peopple say our scouts are poor judges of talent. I beg to differ. These are the same people who got us Pique,Rossi,Macheda, Da Silva Lining etc. It’s not thier fault if such are not given the right chance. We all see Nani’s talent but if he isn’t played constantly and correctly then he’ll not be a success. Most of us know Anderson is a big talent but if the technical team doesn’t know what his exact role is we can not expect progress. Berbatov has always been a regular goal scorer wherever he played but that stopped at United. Why? The manager said himself that they didn’t know where or how to play him throughout the whole of last season. That’s ridiculous. Why is it that all the promising players who come with a good record to OT always fail as soon as they land. Veron, Forlan, Anderson,Smith,Pique,Rossi. If you look closely you’ll discover that in all these cases it has been a case of lack of chances, poor technical decisions(esp role changes) or a combination of both. So we need to sort out our technical side to match the likes of Barca,Milan, Real Madrid and even Arsenal if we are to qualify to attract all the top players. From the looks of things and I was watching the Reserves a lot last season, I think Ole has a hundred times better technical knowledge and application skills than Mike Phelan. Just a thought.

  • If someone offered us £18.6m, what we paid for Anderson tomorrow I would take their arm off at shoulder level.
To constantly blame the coaching staff for Anderson’s lack of development simply can’t be right and for me a cop out to back a player who seems a fans favorite for some reason, but when has played over the past 18 months he hasn’t played well enough it is quite that simple.
People seem to belive he is an attacking midfield player, well no goals in 42 games hardly back that theory up, and he has hardly been prolific bar a few in the Brazilian league which is not up to the standards of any top European league.
To keep harping back him being young, and that is the case but at 21 he is not that young and needs to start to justify the massive fee we spent on him as currently I doubt we would get half the money we outlaid for his services.
I do agree he is needs a run in the side but does he deserve one more that Gibson who looks like the model pro and can at least score?
I certianly hope the lad proves me wrong and Karl, Eddie, Johnsom, Craig ect right but he hasn’t showed me a reason to believe in him, but for the record I will say it again I hope I am wrong and genuinely want him to succeeed.

  • @Stephen: The truth is of all the teams representing Europe only Portugal and Spain would qualify if qualification depended on football philosophy. Quite frankly I think Europe has a lot of successful teams which produce results but entertainment wise, well what entertainment?

  • @Jay wire: The French in their pomp played good entertaining football and the Germans are more attck minded after Klinsman’s influences and the Dutch always play good football BUT England play the greatest brand of football in the World with the flair of Heskey and Carlton Cole in our armoury it is no wonder, er not.
