Quiet Monday Roundup
It’s been quiet with nothing much to report about. Apart from some stray gossip about players who might leave the club. So we will keep this pretty short and leave you for the day.
Oh, yes. You could use your spare time to check out the forum instead. Anyway, here are some of the interesting links that you might want to follow.
Can Hargreaves fill Keane’s boots? We did spend 17-20 million for that purpose, didn’t we? Although our past experiences with the ‘next Keane’ haven’t been particularly pleasant. One hopes Hargreaves does a good job at defensive midfield. I would be happy with a good job. Not entirely comfortable with Keano comparisons. It’s weighed far too heavily on players in the past.
The link, I gave above, of course, takes you to the Daily Mail. Not something that would excite you. But that is the state of the day. Hardly any good Manchester United news coming by. Although, unless there is real transfer activity, this is a good thing.
Now this is not entirely a Man United news report, but it is indirectly related. Drogba says the loss of Henry for Arsenal points to a two horse race between Chelsea and United. I’d say he is grossly underestimating teams, especially after we were written off last year after the sale of Ruud. Oh well. If that kind of smug feeling helps Chelsea flop again, we wouldn’t be really complaining.
Anyway, before I end this post, let me take this opportunity to say that rumours of Heinze moving over to the Bindippers has reached the hall of fame of BS transfer rumours.

sissy to man = hargreaves to keano

Hargreaves can comfortably fit into the shoes of Keano. I have no doubts about this.

drogba is right and not underestimating teams. Arsenal, with Henry, couldnt compete for the title. Arsenal, without henry, will have a tough jog securing 4th place comfortably. Anyone expecting Pool to be genuine title contenders - think again. Big signings cannot help them. Their style is too much in favour of Cup competitions and esp Europe. Thats the truth

If carrick was supposed to be Keane’s replacement why did we try to sign Hargreaves last season? Carrick is the next paul scholes, that’s for sure.

The window hasn’t been shut. So you cannot afford to be smug. Simple as that. It’s possible for us fans to judge teams because, at worst we will have eggs on our faces at the end of the day.
Drogba, on the other hand, would spell his own doom, if he allows this kind of complacency to overcome him as well as some of his team mates. It’s one thing to be honest. Another to publicly state it from a mind games point of view. It could work against him. That’s all.
About Pool, I think it’s going to be another false dawn for them.
Torres is just not going to be the answer for them

my first reaction when i read the droga quote was that the article must have mixed up the name and put drogba’s name in place of mourinho because it’s something he would say. even if liverpool didn’t have the ability to win the title, they have more than enough ability to take points away from us and chelsea and turn the race into one with more than two horses. honestly, just when you think the people over at chelski can’t get any more stupid…

Drogba can’t grt more complacent than this! Arsenal will still have a say, and so will Liverpool. And if the big spending spurs get their defence tight and hold on to the superstars like Berba (which I hope they don’t), then even they could be contenders.

@ RR
I understand what you say but his comments are not complacent as such because he hasnt said something like “were guaranteed the league”. All he said is that its likely to be a 2 horse right and he IS right - judging by whats happened. Arsenal sell henry for 16m and spend all of that on a relatively unknown quantity. Dont get me wrong, he could prove to be a great aquisition long term (like most of wengers other buys and like nani/anderson) but to expect him to come in and set the prem alight instantly is a long-shot. Even if they get an anelka or someone else, they are way short of the top 2 - they lack the experience and something else (the belief?) to really challenge.
Liverpool, once again, will disappoint. I can almost certainly guarantee that it will be a 2 horse race unless something drastic happens
