Real explain De Gea fiasco

293450b2-7152-46e4-8fa4-1e0ddc44255f-2060x1236Real Madrid have released a statement to explain what exactly went wrong with David De Gea’s proposed transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu.

On Monday afternoon, the Spanish international looked set to finally return to the Spanish capital after a summer-long saga, only for the deal to collapse as the required paperwork was not submitted before the end of the Spanish transfer window at midnight.

Real Madrid, who had agreed to sign De Gea in €30m deal plus Keylor Navas, blamed United for taking too long to provide them with the required paperwork. In a statement released on Tuesday, Real accused United of taking eight hours to return the amended contracts, adding the negotiations between them and Navas dragged on more than Real had expected and, as a result, the clubs the deadline by two minutes.

Real said they received “the full documentation at 00:02 and tried to access the TMS but it was already closed”.

However, unlike it was initially suggested, Real Madrid decided against appealing to FIFA in a bid to get the transfer pushed through and will have to wait until next season to get their hands on De Gea.
