Reds 1-0 Sunderland: Full Time | Saha Saves the Day

Manchester United Crest  Sunderland Club Crest

FULL TIME:
Saha showed what we’ve been missing all along this season. A target man. His introduction made so much of a difference. Makes one realize how important he was to our blazing start last season. A headed goal was something we were never likely to have got prior to this game. Speaks a lot about our season from now on, as we rely on an injury prone striker.

The game was scrappy, with plenty of possession but the ball given away numerous times. Evra however was immense, as he was in the first half. His tackling has also improved greatly. My man of the match by a mile. Hargreaves was also good, doing the tidying up job pretty well. Great buy indeed.

That’s it for now from me. Detailed match report later.

FIRST HALF:
United have been bossing possession, but have been clueless as far as making use of it. Familiar story, isn’t it? Eagles, Tevez, Anderson and Nani are our attacking quartet. Scholes and Hargreaves are in our midfield. Saha was on the bench. Nothing remotely threatening has come throughout the half, despite some 7 odd shots from outside the box.

Oh did I mention, Patrice Evra has been immense. Most of our promising build-ups have been from the left channel.

Sad story really. Pray lads, pray for your life that Saha has a blinder.

Half Time Substitution: Saha replaces a very quiet Anderson. Come on Louis!

Watch this space for updates. Hopefully I should bring you some! Won’t promise you though, if I get carried away by the game. Feel free to discuss away.

  • all you Louis saha bitters- GET IT UP YA!! We need king Louis fit and healthy to dominate n capitalise during matches. Play ROONEY+SAHA for couple months let TEVEZ fully fit n were jammin. Exciting times

  • Saha has definitely shown his worth to the team in terms of opening up defenses. United indeed looked livelier after the half. He has got that presence that both rooney and tevez lack. By the way, evra was really immense with his piercing runs but he more often than not left a hole in the left back position. scary what shaun wright phillips might do with that kind of space.
Im still not convinced we can do without saha if, god forbid, injury troubles hit again.
Oh, and by the way, to all those people drooling over berbatov, a fit saha is as good, if not better (and definitely more agile and pacy) than mr. hotpants from white hart lane.
just se his effect on the team today. he was all over the place bagging the ball and that first shot (turn and shoot) was really awesome. It was a fantastic save though…

  • Although I have been one of his critics because of his injuries and unwillingness to play with some pain, I must now say with total joy and relief, WELCOME BACK LOUIS SAHA! What a difference having a true striker on the pitch made for the mood, pace and tactical approach of the team in the second half. Now we will get the new Hugh Hefner (AKA Ronaldo) and Rooney back for the next game and hopefully we will go from being Malaise United to Manchester United again. Their are brighter skies ahead.

  • Agree with Grognard here, we can now see the light and the end of the tunnel with the injuries starting to clear up. Saha’s mere presence makes a huge difference, opening the game up. Once again credit to Evra and Hargreaves for excellent performances, providing some much needed drive.

Now to name and shame, Eagles is out of his depth at this levels and I’m afraid a couple of good composed finishes (ie Everton) cannot mask his poor performance levels overall. Brown has been poor (and I’m being kind) since the start of the season. I’m genuinely surprised he hasn’t been replaced by Pique or O’Shea yet. Hurry back Gary!

  • if saha is so important to us (which he is), why the fuk dont we have a replacement for him? Esp when he is made of glass. We really have to hope he stays fit till jan and then have to buy someone who can lead the line like he does but who is not as injury-prone

  • yea fukin hell- wes brown needs to be dropped. he cant go forward for love nor money. every1 has to chill out bout anderson- he 18 n it was his debut. hes strong, quick n passes great off both feet. lovin it

  • Real red, Anderson is left footed. Havent seen him use too much of his right foot to judge.

  • Positives..Of course )evra, hargreaves & saha).. Eagles was ok in the fist half, tevez is shooting better, good possession again. Negative.. Although we are playing a passing game, we are not running at defenders-to push them back in the box- create panic : a thing we do so well with our two average players in the side.

  • Its a long season lets be patient. Lots of good comment and sense spoken. Keep the faith.

  • Same old story. Don’t get carried away guys because even though we won the performance was nothing to be excited about. This was a newly promoted team that we should have beaten by more than 1. I have a question: if Tevez was meant to be the lone striker in the first half why the hell can’t he follow orders and just stay up there. Too many times the wingers got the ball and there was no one in the box.

At least we got the 3 points and hopefully with Ronaldo(touch wood he doesn’t get injured on international duty) and not too long before Rooney comes back we wont have to sit through another performance like that one.

The main thing that I notice is different from last season is that we don’t go out and immediately blitz teams. there is too much ‘patient’ build up in early parts of games and instead of grabbing a quick goal to unsettle the other team we allow them to get people behind the ball and settle in,that’s the main thing that needs to change.

  • I wonder where all the Saha haters are that normally come on here and bitch and moan…i trust that you wankers will shut up now and realize that we would never had won anything last season without Louis in the side. He looks fit and up for it. He was even tackling back. When Ronaldo gets back i think we will be ok.

  • Guess Whooz Back …back Again Yeah Baby yeah Saha’s back and were rolling saw the second half missed andersons game but then it was his first taste in the fast lane kid needs time

Saha for god sake u need to be in gym and on the ground all your other activites need to stop we badly need u in top shape
and yes loved the celebrations all player pointing on the return of the frenchman
No matter how much people criticise rio he is a team morale booster

hargo is just too goo he always needs the ball no atter what and i still cant believe he card record is that clean

Tevez i still feel it was a bad deal done Common u jackass prove me wrong soon

overall 3 points in the bag =Job well done

Ps Nice to see keano shouting at the line Ref Ref Ref :)

On the sad note saw carrick frustatingly sitting back on the bench when oshea was introduced he needs to cut back on the attitude

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • carrick had a right to be frustrated

he has been miles better than scholes this year on the whole. scholes had another shit game

fergie needs to play players on form and even if it means benching scholes because carrick has clearly been better thus far

Liam I got the same question.
I believe the main reason is the absence of Rooney & Ronaldo.

Anyway I’m happy for the win, and Saha scoring.
When Ronaldo returns the attack will get faster&critical

  • the game was well below par by the reds standards,
but a scrappy win is good enough for now as a fortnight
later we will be welcoming abck the return of ronaldo
and possibly rooney. Man Utd really lacked the spark
in their previous matches. But with Saha fit again and
ronaldo coming back, we can expect a trailblazer of a
    match with Everton.

Anderson is a little too young for now.
He has undoubted talent, but he lacks the experience
of playing in such a top league like the EPL.
but one things for sure, he’s a hardworking lad.
Did you see him running down the field chasing
the ball during kick-off? haha.. he was like a
    wild man on a mission.

He certainly wants to win balls thats for sure.

  • Yeah it’s great that Saha’s back, he was easily our most important player up until christmas last year and it looks like he will be again this year, hopefully for the rest of the season. But what happens when we have Tevez, Rooney and Saha all fit, who gets dropped?

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • fletch is diabolically bad- he aint even good enuf for the scotland ream NEVER MIND us.shite. n pontiff- watch the boy in coming months months….left/right hes got it all. Big Phill Scolari feels hes gon be “1 of europes top players” in a year or so…..i personally trust his judgment! iv been hearing all this bout him being the new Kleberson??!! what utter shite

  • We won, that is all that matters at the moment. Chelski lost their game @ Villa. So the gap between us and them has been reduced to only 2 points. Now we have to watch Liverpool and Arsenal since these look like the main threats in the early season. When we play Everton next, we shall have Ronaldo back. You agree with me the reason why we are not having good goal attempths is because no one is playing Ronaldo’s role i.e. taking the defenders head on inside the box. Once Ronaldo is back and Saha starts, I believe we shall have switched on the engine fully. Rooney will also be back sooner, probably during Chelsea’s game. I still have a lot of hope this season, nothing to worry about!!!!!!!!!!!

  • unlike ronnie.. nani doesnt seem to try to run at and go past defenders ..which is a bit of a concern..and we have to considerably improve our performance if we are to win at goodison..

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • props for the three points and trust me if i was to complain there are many reasons starting with why the hell did eagles have a whole 70plus mins in the game.the guy is shit.never looked confident with the ball.i suggest he should be coming of the bench instead of starting.
just1in i’d like to tell you that saha is a great player and you saw that on sat, prob is he’s often injured which def will cost the team, jus look at the start of the season as an example. we dont want to be paying lots, hell! lots of money for some1 to be feeling the sick bed.
i’d luv to see john terry’s face esp after his comments about man utd last week.lol! what a crapy perfomance from chelski and they are supposed to be our toughest contenders to the title.
as i said earler and i’ll repeat again. the league is a marathon and not a sprint so points will be lost, liverpool and arsenal you are next.
