Rooney Out For A Month
I usually don’t come out with these updatey kind of posts but I’ll make an exception.
Rooney is out. Ankle Injury in Training. One Month. Four Weeks. Plenty of Games.
Here’s the news confirming that.
And yes, you guessed it. I am gutted for him. Very much.
And these are the games he’ll most likely miss.
Sunday, 11 November 2007 EPL Man Utd v Blackburn
Saturday, 24 November 2007 EPL Bolton v Man Utd
Tuesday, 27 November 2007 UCL Man Utd v Sporting
Monday, 03 December 2007 EPL Man Utd v Fulham
Saturday, 08 December 2007 EPL Man Utd v Derby
Wednesday, 12 December 2007 UCL Roma v Man Utd
Sunday, 16 December 2007 EPL Liverpool v Man Utd
As you may notice, apart from the Blackburn game the games that he’ll miss aren’t the worst ones (keeping in mind the international break) He might return in time for the ‘pool game. That is a hope, though.
Discuss.

I think this underlines the need for that fourth striker fergie quoted today that he thought saha would be most effective from the bench… so who do we play in the meantime… i think we need to get a striker hopefully experienced enough to able the pressures of the premiership gudjonson, berbatov or even someone as physical as adriano….
November 9th, 2007 at 17:44
Oh no.worst fears realised.2 strikers left.i didnt want to say this but we need more strikers.plain facts.we have the worst injury record bar none.
November 9th, 2007 at 17:47
I mean its actually pathetic really.these injuries….thats his second now and now im praying that saha dont get injured in this month.noooooo he was red hot.
November 9th, 2007 at 17:56
guys guys your forgeting who we are talking about, this is wayne rooney, he’ll be back in 2 weeks, 3 weeks top, but now we are left with a dilema, mr.glass cant start 4 weeks straight and not get an injury so giggs or ronaldo will have to play upfront with tevez, or we play 4-3-3.
November 9th, 2007 at 18:00
well not the worst possible time of the season with the break coming up, but we know that it usually takes him 2-3 weeks to get back in form, when he’s been out. Hopefully he’s back in full fitness come the Liverpool game. The team will managewithout him… I have no worries about that.
November 9th, 2007 at 18:04
Yea dan but the thing is with rooney when he gets back from injury he takes a couple of weeks to get back his touch.
November 9th, 2007 at 18:09
We need another striker.
November 9th, 2007 at 18:11
Luckily though we should get past all the teams we play in the next month or so.
November 9th, 2007 at 18:18
bull, rooney never really found his form last season, he did get most goals but he didnt really hi top gear.henrik larrson? are there any other freebys? we also have anderson to play upfront, damn no campbell.
November 9th, 2007 at 18:36
why aren’t we producing more strikers from the academy (with the obvious exception of rossi … but we let him leave) … i am not so confident about fabian brandy … is there anybody else? … it seems that we are producing good defenders in our academy but significantly fewer midfielders and strikers … is there a reason for this? or is it just a coincidence?
November 9th, 2007 at 18:38
The question we should be asking is why are our players getting injured during training. Rooney is not the first and we must start to look out our methods.
November 9th, 2007 at 18:41
The good and the bad. The bad is that Rooney has glass feet and the game is flooded with high tech slippers that are being mistaken for football footwear. They have no protection and he is not the only one who has suffered a foot injury. Foot injuries are a rising epidemic. Old style cleats were so leathery hard that if someone stepped on you, quite often you wouldn’t feel pain or injury, just the weight of the individual. Today it’s like playing bare footed. Still this was an ankle and no footwear other than high tops can prevent injuries to that region.
The good is that Roonaroo is a fast healer and Red Ranter is absolutely correct about him possibly making the Liverpool match. Fergie will have to hog-tie Wayne to keep him out of the one match he looks forward to the most every year. I’d put money on him returning for that match. At least as a substitute.
The other good news coming from this is that it will give Louis Saha a chance to shine and perhaps saving his role on this team. I’m taking odds now on which of the four weeks Wayne is out will be the one Saha claims injury on. I give him two matches before we are down to Tevez. This one is going to be a crippler for our season because Wayne is the straw that stirs the drink. We are lost out there without him. It’s really time for Ronaldo to step up big time.
November 9th, 2007 at 18:57
What I am really worried about at the moment is Blackburn. I figure Bolton, Fulham and Derby would be relatively easy. The Blackburn camp would be pumped up for this fixture now that Rooney is out of the equation.
I am not underestimating Saha, but Rooney-Tevez were proving to be a handful for most sides.
Although if Saha does last the whole stretch, I don’t think it would affect our style and cutting edge one bit.
November 9th, 2007 at 19:15
There is good and bad to this. Bad is that Rooney was in hot form and was scoring goals at will…We dont know how he will be coming back from injury. Hopefully Tevez can score a few till Rooney is back.
Good part is that, Blackburn would have planned to counter Rooney-Tevez partnership and interplay now they have an uncertainity around their plans as we can put in Saha or Giggs in Rooney’s place..So different players..Moreover we have already qualified for CL so Ferguson dont have to worry about going to Roma and playing Sporting at home..This also gives Saha a chance to redeem himself and get himself out the tag “Mr.Glass”….He truly have the ability to emulate Drogba…they play so similar styles…
We cannot underestimate any of the premiership teams this season, so i have no predictions there…
Because it is Rooney I think we might see him tormenting Derby with a hatrick!!..
November 9th, 2007 at 20:28
dangit!!!….this was supposed to be wazza’s breakthrough season…and he’s sure as hell done outstandingly well whenver he’s been on the pitch..but hope these injuries dont start creeping into his game and make him another one of those guys who just cant stop being injured…..
on another note..what the hell is going on with the physios back there…i mean everyone kept on saying last season that chelsea were wrecked with injuries but people overlooked the fact that we were without our entire back four towards the end of the season….again this season everyone is overlooking the fact that we’re having another injury ravaged season..i just hope that these injuries dont wreck our pursuit of the league..or our chase for the european cup..
red ranter i know that we have an unbelievable front line..but dont you think we need to get a striker..not splashing the cash on a berbatov..but maybe getting someone on freeby…something similar to the larsson deal fergie did last seaon….
November 9th, 2007 at 20:29
Shyam; I see Rooney taking 3 to 5 games to find his fitness and form once he returns. I base that on previous times he has come back from injury, and there have been a few. Still his presence out on the pitch can never be underestimated because of his tenacity and work ethic.
As for Saha,he has plenty of skill but he also needs to stay healthy. What I have noticed in his two appearances of late is that he has been very nimble with the ball but all his nice play is outside of the box. Nail him down in the box and feed him as much as often. et Tevez roam outside of the box. If he stays in the box like Drogba, he should get us some goals and be an imposing force for Blackburn and the rest. Now just pack his glass with plenty of bubble wrap and hope he doesn’t break.
November 9th, 2007 at 20:38
Again….WHERE IS ROSSI when ya need him……Fergie?? typical- as soon as wazza starts getin his fitness bk he goes n fucks himself again. Its so vital for him to be 100% fit. whats the chat with the boy John Cofie???
November 9th, 2007 at 20:43
Forget Rossi. He’s history. For all Fergie’s great moves he occasionally pulls a boner like letting Stam go and now Rossi. I just don’t think he ever believed in the lad. Then again he never believed in Forlan either and he has become a prolific scorer in La Liga. Maybe that just shows that La Liga isn’t all its made out to be.
November 9th, 2007 at 20:47
Just our luck, Rooney injured for the second time this season. What a shame, he was on a rich vein of goalscoring form. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Only Tevez and Saha left. We must strenghten in attack during the winter transfer window.
November 9th, 2007 at 22:55
Rossi is history…Lets not brag about that..and Moreover i wont complain as Fergie dont want to see a talented young lad sitting unhappy on the bench…Rossi was clearly unhappy that he is not being given regular first team place and he demanded a move out..Fergie obliged…
November 10th, 2007 at 0:20
Massive blow to man utd and england. Im good mates with wayne and spoke to him before about his injury. Hes hopeful he will be back in 3weeks and defo for pool game!
November 10th, 2007 at 0:33
Fergie’s first obligation is to the club, not the individual. He sent Rossi packing because he honestly thought he was not United material. The kid is good but is he good enough to be a regular for the Reds? I don’t think so. There was no way of knowing that both Saha and Rooney would go down so it was a calculated risk that backfired. I smell 4-5-1 for the next month folks. Fergie has to do it. Better to have one of our strikers coming in to relieve the other or for offensive much needed offensive punch near the end of the game, rather than risking both at the beginning. I have a sneaky suspicion that idf he doesn’t go 4-5-1 he will go 4-1-1 with either Giggs or Ronaldo just behind Tevez or Saha.
Rooney’s injury will really put pressure on our midfield to overcome the loss. Both Anderson and Carrick will have to step up and Ronaldo and Nani will have to be out of this world.
November 10th, 2007 at 2:19
You think you have a lot of injuries you should see chelsea last season. We get injuries to key
players like drogba, terry, lampard, carvalho, cech. We have the best aquad by milkes we just dont have the chemistry that you guys have. you guys could get Huntelaar or podolski in the january transfer window.
Chelsea-UP!
November 10th, 2007 at 2:20
Rooney will only been left out for non important games, for UCL,we are already
qualified and the for league games,I think it should be ok,we can win in without
him.Besides,it is the time for Mr Saha to repay United.Last time in Kyiv’s match,
he was looking very good.I wish he will keep that level untill Rooney’s back. One
month is nothing compare to what has been happened to him before this, and he will
be back earlier than expected. So Mr Wazza, get a rest, comeback earlier and get well
soon,we will pray for you….
November 10th, 2007 at 3:42
this was what i was most worried about at the begining of the season. we started out with 3 strikers who were no strangers to the team orthopaedist. now that ole has suffered the last injury of his career, we’re down to three total strikers. saha is a tremendous player when fit, which is hardly ever. we shouldn’t count on him being our full time third striker. he is definately a boon to the team when he plays, but we cannot expect him to play, really. we need someone else. ramos has said he’d let berba leave, and we’d likely get him a bit cheaper than we would have last year. i think we’ll get berbatov in the summer as we know he fancies a move to united, and fergie fancies him. so long as rooney and saha can avoid getting injured at the same time for most of the season (playing 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 for a match or two wouldn’t be the end of the world), we should be able to wait til then. and hey maybe dong could get a run out (ha). he is (allegedly) a member of the first team.
November 10th, 2007 at 5:20
Usually I look at injuries differently, they usually present oppurtunities to the young lads from the academies. But in this case, things are slightly different considering the only cover we have for Rooney’s Saha(who himself hasn’t been the apostle of fitness. Other strikers have been loaned out or sold. As a result what we are looking at here is a change in formation or Giggs in a more advanced role(he hasn’t been great this season when played out of position). All we can hope for now is that Saha stays fit(the odds of me getting into the United team are higher) atleast for a month and moreover he can strike up an understanding with Tevez considering they haven’t played too much football together.
November 10th, 2007 at 7:00
Fergie has already come out and said that he sees Saha as the next Solksjaer. He feels he can be a super sub because his knee is not well enough to start. As it’s a chronic problem he may be stuck in that kind of position for a while or for good. This limits his value to us and makes him worthless in the transfer market. Look Fergie to go 4-5-1 or 4-1-1 with Ronaldo or Giggs playing just behind Tevez. Saha will come in to games after 60 minutes or so.
God I hope Rooney has a good physiotherapist because we cannot afford to be without him for long. Even he wants to come back early, I’m sure Fergie will be cautious. I think we are looking at five weeks. Seriously, this could really hurt us because we cannot take the risk of playing both our strikers at the same time for very long. It will cause us to have to gut out 1-0 wins again. Problem is our defense has started to spring leaks.
November 10th, 2007 at 7:03
den seriously!!…i mean seriously believe…
how the f**k can you still believe that chelsea have a bigger injury list than united….realise this united..have been without scholes, carrick and hargreaves for long periods of times….we lost vidic for a couple of weeks…we’ve lost rooney twice already this season plus we had ronaldo suspended..lets not forget about neville who hasnt kicked a ball in like forever….
and you chelsea idiots are still crying about the odd injury you guys suffered last season…fact!! all teams have to handle injuries..but the teams with a better squad handle it better so you cant even say that chelsea have a better squad..so just piss off!!
November 10th, 2007 at 9:02
this is a golden chance to see anderson as a striker along side tevez. . . carrick and hargreaves in the middle with ronaldo and giggs on the wings, the only thing we haven’t seen from anderson this year is skill on the ball (dribbling and beating his man) . . i mean we have, , but not anything breath taking. . and those of you who followed him last year or watched youtube clips of him know that he definetly has the skill to get past someone and get a shot off. . and he no doubt has the pace. . so i’m not thrilled about rooney. . but i am curious to see if SAF goes down that route
. . or we place ronaldo up front and nani on the wing in which case i’d go with anderson off the bench
November 10th, 2007 at 9:08
sidharth
seriously? you can’t have it both ways man. . you can’t shove our injuries into dens face and then tell him to piss off for mentioning chelsea’s “odd” injuries last season (they had quite the injury crisis at one point)
i mean be reasonable. . eveyone has injuries. . just ask newcastle hahaha
November 10th, 2007 at 9:21
i agree with joninjapan…….. i think that anderson playing as a striker is the way to go fr now…….in all fairness, i wuld prefer to see him play there neways….. i mean dont get me wrong, he has played exceptionally in the midfield…. but he wuld benefit from not having as many defensive duties as a central midfielder has…… add to that the added freedom from have the ball in space and all across the field, he culd be far more effective, maybe even start scoring goals!!
November 10th, 2007 at 9:30
joninjapan
point taken mate..but i’m just frustrated that people seem to be overlooking our injuries..while mourning over chelsea’s injury list
ps i seriously sympathise with those guys in NEWCASTLE…their guys fall down like a pack of cards…i mean its nice way of reminding myself things could be worse
November 10th, 2007 at 10:01
just relised that Adam Eckersley is coming back in 2 days, only 2 league apparences, we should probably make him play for half an hour or so in the UCL matches. im also looking forward to seeing shawcross aswell, 15 matches already and 4 goals in the league.
November 10th, 2007 at 11:10
terry is beta than ferdinand, carvalho is beta than vidic, belletti is beta than neville, a. cole is beta than evra, drogba is beta than rooney cole is beta than giggs, lampard is beta than scholes or carrack, essien is better than your whole bloody squad as far as im concerned right now he is the best player in the world. Honestly though i think youre side is great and i love watching you guys. But every source of goals comes from ronaldo. Just watch your matches carefully. But i cant sqay anything coz our only souirces to goals are drogba and lampsy. last season we had j.cole out for the whole year, a.cole was out for half the season, robben same with j.cole,JT same, cech out for most of year so you cant rerally say anything. Chelsea-Up! Chelsea 2-0 Man city
November 10th, 2007 at 12:15
Den: Beta? What is that, are your players some kind of pre release test versions? Please use proper English in your posts. By the way do you not even know what your result was against Man City?
On Anderson I initially thought he was a Ronaldinho style of player but the range and type of passing he has displayed makes me think he would be wasted if he was too far up the pitch.
November 10th, 2007 at 12:25
Essien the best player in the world? ha ha ha ha
November 10th, 2007 at 12:40
sunny
not really that funny. . he’s a quality player
definetly top african player in the world
haha now i feel like a freaking chelski apologist. . i’ll just shut up now
November 10th, 2007 at 12:53
sorry i measnt everton
November 10th, 2007 at 13:06
How did this post come to be about Chelsea… beats me.
Let me just “shortly” recap United’s injuries this season so far… it’s quite unbelievable:
From start of the season, Park and Foster were deemed out until early 2008. Silvestre quite early had a serious ligament knee injury and is out for most of the season. Rooney broke his foot and was out for 5 weeks and now he’s out for at least 4 more. Gary Neville has been away for 7 months or so, and Scholes is out for 3 months. Saha is constantly injured. Evra has been out for 2 weeks, and VDS has troubles with his legs/feet/foot or whatever. Vidic was out for a couple of weeks with a concussion. Carrick broke his elbow and was away for a month, and Hargreaves has only played in 5 matches so far due to injuries (knee mostly I think). And finally Fletcher had a broken leg and was out for quite a while as well.
I can’t think of any more, but there might just be some. To me, only West Ham and Newcastle can match those statistics, and the fact that we’re still at the top of the league speaks volumes of our squad, and especially the youngsters.
November 10th, 2007 at 13:45
Den.its amazing how almost all your players are better than ours and yet were champions and are second and by the end of tomorrow will be top.seriously den the onlyseason ppl think chelsea have the worst injury list is because chelsea cant cope with them.united continue to win and win convincingly.even now with rooneys injury we still win.i promise u.
November 10th, 2007 at 13:47
The idea of Anderson up front sounds interesting, but we can’t play tevez with anderson up front, both dropping into the hole for large parts of the game, we need to have someone running in behing, we tried that with giggs in the hole this season with tevez, when tevez plays too far up he never looks as good, I’d be much happier with playing Saha with tevez, I’m sure he could stay fit for at least a month, he’s already missed half of the season so his injuries could be gone for a few months…And all this crap about injuries is stupid, teams have injuries constantly, they didn’t stop us from winning the league last season so I don’t see why we can’t win it again with injuries:) Plus Fabregas is only one yellow card away from a suspension so in the one match without him there’s every chance they’ll drop points, and Cech’s out for a month too so whos to say they won’t fall apart during christmas again this season?:)
November 10th, 2007 at 16:02
conor. . people said the same thing avout rooney and tevez
November 10th, 2007 at 16:23
Yeah but Rooneys changed as a player greatly since his young days, and alot of people didn’t realize it, as Sir Alex plays him further up with someone behind him, he did that for the end part of last season and played well and he’s a lot more different to tevez than people say, Tevez is nearly always halfway betweeen the box and the halfway line, Rooney now more often than not will be making runs in and around the box, before he used to play behind a striker but Sir Alex never thought that was his best position, Anderson will drop deep just like Tevez looking for the ball and I doubt he’ll be trying to run in behind.
November 10th, 2007 at 17:30
SIDHARTH; No need to apologize mate. Well said. I have absolutely no problem with supporters joining us for intelligent and well thought out conversations. I do not need fanatics coming over to spew their rubbish. As if we really believe it. We have enough of a chore agreeing on Manchester United. We don’t need their childish he’s BETA than our boy’s crap.
DEN; If you want to enjoy and take part in this MANCHESTER UNITED BLOG, then I would recommend that you refrain from pissing the membership off by claiming garbage like all your Chelski Wanker Squad is “BETA” than ours. Even if that were to be true, which of course it isn’t, it’s asking for a lot of a abuse on this site. I would suggest that you mosey on over to some bleeding sod off Chelski blog and rant to your hearts content. Consider yourself a guest at Red Rants seeing as you support the enemy. You BETA act accordingly. If this were a pub you would have had your nose busted already. And other than Essien, your squad is only BETA at boring the nation to sleep every Saturday morning. CHELSKI AND CHALSKI FANS CAN ALL JUST SOD OFF!
Sorry readers but there is nothing I deplore more than Chelski or Scouser fans spouting their venom on Red Devil blogs. I can tolerate Arsenhole fans a fraction more just out of respect for the years of battle and the strongest rival ever for us in the EPL. Chelski are nothing more than short time pretenders, like their supporters.
In North America I belong to a New York Yankees blog and we constantly get ass clown Boston Red Sox supporters infiltrating our blog and spewing their rubbish. Trust me when I say they are not treated like welcome guests. The rivalry is heated and bitter.
November 11th, 2007 at 0:20
Grognard yout so tough arnt you. You say your champions? well technically you are but chelsea didnt deserve to lose their title. If you look at our players they always say on chelseafc.com that thy fell that our title was robbed rom us and stuff. Ok so you have injureis, Did you have injuries to your best players? to your leaders? Find JT, a.cole, J.cole, Robben, Cech. Think about it 2 wingers for attacking style of football in robben and j.cole, A superb left-back, 1 of the bewst keepers in the world and wich is the most important position, And what mnore can be said about JT, our leader on and off the pitch. And also being a CB is very improtant when last season we only had boulahrouz anbd all you know how he turned out! lol Chelsea-up! 2 Chelsea-Everton 0
November 11th, 2007 at 3:21
[den]
What goes around comes around. You had no injuries to your ‘leaders’ when you won the title. JT and Lamps when through record breaking appearances. We on the other hand lost on of the greatest leaders of the premier league Roy Keane, at first, and then Paul Scholes for half the season.
The boss never cribbed about us not winning because of our injuries. We finished second with a central midfield of Giggs and O’Shea/Fletcher. Certainly worse off than your back ups.
Point is injuries are a part of the title race. Every club has such issues. Why, the Gooners had even bigger issues with regards to injuries. You won’t see them crying for ‘their’ title. After all how many had you won really? three? If that makes the title yours, then I don’t know what it does to us. Anyway, if it suits you to feel that your title was ‘robbed’ feel free to think so.
Just don’t expect us to agree with you. Your efforts at Chelsea evangelism would better be served elsewhere. As long as you are constructive here you are welcome. Else bugger off.
November 11th, 2007 at 4:09
chelse will win the title this year, youll see
November 11th, 2007 at 5:12
In your wet dreams only Den.
November 11th, 2007 at 5:24
damn den your deluded..
how the hell you stake claim to the league is beyond me. in all honesty chelsea would be lucky to even finish in the top 2…but hey thats me.
November 11th, 2007 at 8:10
we are undefeated in 10 games, and are playing attacking football, i wont be suorised if we put 4 past everton tonight.
November 11th, 2007 at 9:46
goddamit den has it really been 10 games since we beat you 2-0?
on another note, its a shame that rooney misses the derby match. . i was kind of looking forward to him scoring in his sleep in that one
oh and conor i disagree with you about anderson dropping back, he’s shown himself to drop back because of his position on the pitch. . attacking midfielder. . one would have to believe that he would play differently as a striker, just as rooney plays different as a lead striker
November 11th, 2007 at 11:39
den - I’ll be looking forward to seeing your team’s performances, when Essien, Kalou, Mikel and Drogba are away for 6 weeks playing the ANC… good luck to the rest of them.
November 11th, 2007 at 13:13
Well yea thats a good point jon but I just don’t think we’ll ever get the chance to see how Anderson would play upfront. By the way, I wuite like the look of this guy Fraizer Campbell, I know he’s playing in the championship b ut still, he can score goals, gets into good positioins and hes fast.
November 11th, 2007 at 14:43
tomas we have sheva, ballack, maka, pizzaro, sinclair to come back when they go to ANC. And we are also signing van der vaart for 29 million in jan stransfer window so thers another one for you!
November 11th, 2007 at 16:58
well den looks like you idiots are going to have to settle for a draw rather smash 4 past them. damn dude your seriously naive…do you honestly believe each and every transfer rumour out there…as i said shevchenko has become a has been or may be he just cant settle into the fast and furious nature of this league..as for ballack well i think he might just quit the club considering how disenchanted he looks….and for the rest of the guys you’ve talked about i’m shuddering to think what they may do…not!!
November 12th, 2007 at 13:37
Pity over Rooney, but this was the main reason that SAF got Tevez in the first place…to have adequate cover when Rooney is out. Last season, whenever he or Ronaldo were out, our team struggled to cope. This year, we have the necessary cover.
In fact, it’s only about 3 games that Rooney is out for and that we’ll need Saha to fill in. I’m sure his body can cope with that.
I do agree however, we need another striker. We would have been ok if Ole was still around.
November 14th, 2007 at 18:23
Wayne will no doubt be a huge miss over the next month but the fixtures are not the toughest so I don’t envisage it being too much of a problem.
What money he returns at Anfield, still in form, and score the winner.
