Roundup: Vidic, Evans, Tevez, Heinze
There were quite a few stories that, I admit, I didn’t cover over the past few days. Not that I wasn’t aware of them. Just that I was swamped with work (in my real life, that is) that I couldn’t get to the part of writing posts.
Today’s round up will certainly not be comprehensive. Nonetheless, it will refresh things for those living under a rock for the past 2-3 days.
There is an interview with Nemanja Vidic on Manutd.com to mark the launch of the Chinese version of Manutd.com. He talks about new signings, pressure of retaining the title and winning the Champions’ League.
Jonny Evans talks about helping United win the title. With the imminent departure of Heinze, one might expect him to get chances at left back in some games at least.
Although if reports are to be believed, we might be interested in Leighton Baines. In fact, he would be a wonderful signing and a much better bet than Gareth Bale.
Various reports point towards a quick resolution to the Tevez dispute. Maybe even as early as Wednesday. There are plenty of different options speculated upon by different papers, but the crux of the matter is that all this seems possible because of the Premier League’s softening of its stance on the situation. West Ham have submitted a proposal to the PL but it is up to Kia to accept the details of the proposal.
Heinze praises Sir Alex Ferguson. Which is weird. Well, he does want to sound diplomatic. But he talks about everything in the world other than his own move to Liverpool. His lawyers seem to have no real case to engineer a move to Liverpool, but funnier things have happened.
Rossi has resurfaced in transfer talk, this time at Napoli. SAF did say Rossi was to return from loan, but I guess, since he never clearly said that he WILL be playing next season for us, there was that bit of ambiguity that the press might be quick to observe. Anyway, it is after all, only agent speak. So we will leave it at that for the moment.
SAF says, Nani needs some more time to become the player to watch out for, and he insists that one shouldn’t get too carried away by the performances in the Asian tour. He still needs two weeks according to the gaffer. The greatest plus of the Asian tour was Nani’s integration into the team setup, and that will hold him in good stead for the new season.
And finally some good news. Hargreaves might start against Chelsea depending on how he fares against Inter. So that means he might be given a few minutes against Inter, which is good to know. I believe, SAF intends to use the Inter game as a dress rehearsal for the Community Shield. So expect to get a preview of the formation he will use against Chelsea, from the Inter game.
And that should wrap up my back log of news roundup.

nice one red ranter, nothing new but just the main points of the past few days.
bored of this heinze shit, some reports say tevez will be unvielled as a united player after the chelsea match, cant wait for that game by the way really think we will beat the shit out of the twats and shut them up, and the inter game should be a interesting 1! leighton baines will be a good addition 2 the squad, rossi is a good player but IMO should go out on loan 2 get sum matches, nani played well in the asia tour and can definately get much better hope he and anderson feature in the inter and chelsea games, and finally the interview with j.evans is really good, if only all our players had the same attitude towards the team ‘heinze’

Agree on Leighton Baines… he sounds like he’d fit right in and would probably be happy playing back-up initially as he integrates into a new club, he’ll still get plenty of match time. Might also mean Silvestre returns to France.
I think we should at least keep Rossi for the first 6 months of the season (especially if Smith is sold). Without Saha at the start of the season we’ll need to back-up that Rossi provides and he’d have a great opportunity to prove himself. If he succeeds he stays, if he struggles then he either goes out on loan or is sold. He deserves a chance and our current squad circumstances require a player of his standing.

Does anyone here know if anderson is back training after the copa america or when he will report back?
July 30th, 2007 at 11:22
i think he should be back on the 6 aug cause that is when gabby is supposed to b coming back
July 30th, 2007 at 11:59
Someone get our players back in training already! Enough with the holidays!
I can’t understand why people are still saying things like Rossi needs some games (away from United). Hasn’t he played away enough already? He deserves a crack at playing for United in the first team on a more regular basis than he has in the past already.

nice post but should’nt we bringing new english blood from the youth ranks then becoming chealsea and keep buying players
July 30th, 2007 at 13:23
i don’t really care if we lose the community shield, as the team that wins it usually doesn’t win the title at the end of the season. a good performance from the likes of hargreaves and nani would be most welcome, however. if we can sell smith and heinze before aug 31 and bring in tevez and baines as respective replacements, and keep hold of rossi, this will hopefully be the most exciting premiership title race ever! i can’t wait!!

Agree with what Nino said. We should get Tevez and Baines. If Heinze wants to go…let him be…just hope that he won’t go to Liverpool. If we do get Baines and Tevez b4 Aug 31…..our team will be the team of the future…
Bring on whoever u wanna bring! This season, we shall win CL, EPL, FA cup and …well, maybe we should leave Carling cup to Chelsea? Pity them.

Is the game on Wed only to be shown on MUTV?
July 30th, 2007 at 14:30
Baines will be a good to the squad if we get him cause there is a link for mikel to man city
we might need a back up defender
July 30th, 2007 at 15:51
(De_Roiste)
The game will be shown on mutv so dont miss it.
Though its not man u business Mikel is going no where. Baines will be a good addition to the squad. especially those rocket free kicks between the defense walls.HOw much is he gonna cost
Finally I have to release a biiiig ‘pheeeew’. It was a long time coming. Now Hargreaves gets a chance to play.Best of luck guys as we prepare for the new season. Man I cant wait

Fergie feels that he cannot find a place for Rossi when Tevez joins…and also keep him motivated..He is waiting on TEvez deal to get finished before deciding on Rossi…Fergie wants a younger striker who can play in reserves for this season and takes up Saha’s place next season..Thats the reason he is considering Rossi-Palladino swap with Juve.

Leighton Baines is a fanatical supporter of Liverpool according to Wikipedia. Is it impossible to find somebody who actually wants to play for us, the biggest club in the world? Even Arsenal bought this 16-year old Norwegian defender this summer – even he´s a United supporter… And please get rid of Heinze, he is either stupid or illoyal.
July 30th, 2007 at 18:04
forget baines, sign drenethe from feyenoord 4 same price, he is twice the player at 20
July 30th, 2007 at 19:21
Drenthe wont be the same price as Baines with all the people who are interested in him. I think that United should still try to keep Heinze (maybe it was just agent talk after all) and look in to signing a good young right back. And then hopefully the brazilian twins will come and be good and we will have cover for both RB and LB. A question about the Brazilian twins though is will they be able to get work permits? But any way that means that next year Heinze could go on his merry way and we wont be left short at the back.
July 30th, 2007 at 19:51
@nelson otieno
i think the mikel Ebrahim was talkin about is not that son of bitch c**t your thinking of, i think he is refering to our own french defender ’silvestre’, am i right?
July 30th, 2007 at 23:24
I agree with Liam. It doesn’t make sense to bring in a pricey LB like Baines “for the future†when Evra is only 26. As much of an asshole as Heinze is, I think we need to keep him for the year and let Silvestre go because he is past his prime and has very little left to offer. And in the event that we need a third LB, Evans, Pique, Lea, Cathcart, or Lee would be able to provide sufficient cover. Plus, that way those youngsters would be able gain some experience instead of wasting it on the dirty Frenchman. If we need a wingback, we should be looking for a RB. I don’t know how good the Brazilian twins are or even if they’ll be able to get the legal work taken care of to play next season, but the fact remains that the only position that does not have a player for the future is RB.
July 30th, 2007 at 23:30
dude i would be perfect at rwb for united
July 30th, 2007 at 23:36
yea. i am talkin about mikel silvestre
July 31st, 2007 at 1:33
i know it’s only paper talk, but the price drenethe is linked to clubs for is 7 million, and he would be worth every penny! even if we paid more than this figure for him it would still be an excellent buy, i wouldn’t expect us to pay the whole sum at once, more in installlments!!!
fabio and rafael are suposed to be great players but they are only 16 or 17 so probs won’t get a work permit and even if they did they would need a few years 2 adapt!!
on the right back situation i would of loved us to snap up micah richards next summer but now the new shity era has begun it will become an even harder task!
just imagine in 2 years
foster
richards rio vida drenethe
ronaldo hargreaves/carrick anderson nani
rooney tevez
