Samuel: “Bale would win United the league”

35c796fcea453b97b475489b4b759507_crop_northMartin Samuel, the Daily Mail’s chief sports writer, believes that Gareth Bale would win Manchester United the title next season if they signed him.

The Welshman has been linked with a return to the Premier League in the summer after a difficult second season at Real Madrid, with the former Spurs man criticised for a lack of goals and repeatedly booed by the Santiago Bernabeu crowd.

Speaking on the Sunday Supplement on Sky Sports, Samuel said that if United were to sign the Welshman, they would automatically become favourites to win the league next season.

“I think Manchester United could possibly win the league next season,” he said.

“But if they get Gareth Bale, they will definitely win the league. They are the upcoming team.”

Samuel added that United had shown plenty of promising signs this season, particularly against the top five clubs, which boded well for their chances ahead of next season.

“If you look at the round robin between the top five, United are Chelsea are neck and neck,” Samuel said.

“If you look at Chelsea, they finished top of that group last season, and that was the sign that they were coming back up to the top.

“Against the Champions League clubs, they took 16 out of 18 points. That’s a good sign, as it shows you can match the best.
