Scholesy’s Return and Manucho
Paul Scholes looks set to return for the FA Cup game against Tottenham. He should make it to the substitutes bench at least. The manager has all reason to be optimistic about his return. “I still think we will get three more years out of Scholes because he comes back from injuries very wellâ€, he says.
Many of us will remember the summer of 2006 when Carrick was our only signing of note; when SAF talked about the return of Scholes (from his eye condition), Ole and Giggs as new signing. With the Glazer takeover the season before that, the sale of Ruud in the summer and an underwhelming 05/06 season (when a Carling Cup win was celebrated) many dismissed the talk of ‘new signings’ as mere rhetoric. Scholes’ form last season, along with Ronaldo’s brilliance, was the driving force behind our successful 06/07 campaign.
So here’s hoping we get to see a rejuvenated Scholes breathe fresh life into our campaign.
A lot of us have gotten excited about Manucho, and for good reason. He scored an absolute belter and with his head. And if he can do something like this more often we would have someone who can head in our side. For those who have been reading the site regularly, we have been keeping tabs on him and will continue to do so — thus hoping Angola progress far into the ACN. He looks strong and from reports can hold the ball well. So, more or less, a strong (less injury prone?) version of Louis Saha. He has scored for the past three games for Angola (friendlies included, one of which was against Egypt). Here is the video of Manucho’s goal against South Africa.
About the “Ronaldo to Madrid rumours”, many of the those linking to stories on our comment section of late have been increasingly linking to Tribal Football. For heavens’ sake, please suspend judgments until you hear them from more credible sources, like the BBC or the Telegraph or the Guardian. Tribal Football usually copy paste reports from tabloids for the purpose of sensationalism and inducing traffic. Look for quotes, preferably not from Madrid (and not from Ronnie’s mom) because they usually talk shite.
Fergie thinks Beckham should complete 100 appearances for England. With Capello as coach, it looks like it might actually happen.
And EVDS says the English game makes goal keepers suffer lots of bruises. He says ‘keepers get ‘bullied’, which could be a strong word. But he will be ready and prepare himself for the Spurs game. More on that later when we preview the game.
Finally a hilarious video of an interview of SAF, Giggs and Ronaldo during their trip to Riyadh. Was that for real or a piss take! [via The Offside]

That was a cracking headed goal there. Looking forward to him in United colours

Manucho scored a beauty. Sad enough he wasnt getting too much of the ball but for the few touches he underlined what fergie said . tall quick and agile. his insticts are gooooooood. hope he gets work permit . I am happy scholes is back

I am extremely excited about manucho.Hes brilliant in the air.He won about 85% of the balls hit to him.he reminds me of drogba in a way.I actually think he is bigger than fidges. he is quite quick for such a big lad.havent seen too much of his shooting though. Why cant he get a permit? He could be a very usefull player later on in the season.Scholes returns the problem for Fergie begins.carrick, anderson, hargreaves, scholes?not a bad choice of midfielders

ROFL at the interview!! HAHAHAHA Thanks for that RR, my day in office had been so boring until I saw it. They could have surely thrown some 100 quid at Jeff Shreaves and got him to do the talking.
Great news about Ginger, I have always loved him for his commitment as well as abilities.
Regarding Ronaldo’s transfer speculation, Real have recently issued a statement saying that “Ronaldo’s transfer seems impossible”, this as far as I can see is another of the toys from the Real pram, trying reverse psychology on players so that they themselves try to get out of their club without Real having to even make a bid for them. Bastards!
I don’t know how much of a jet lag our players may have suffered post the Dubai trip but whatever it is I hope they have shaken it off as the game against Tottenham looks set to be a humdinger.

I am from Zimbabwe and believe me Manucho is an excellent player. He
always wins headers and thats something we have lacked in the past
this season.I mean with Carlito and Wazza being so short he will offer something different. As for Scholes wat a player and this is good news.Glad he is back when we are on top,of the League coz we will neeed him coz this next games are full of surprises.
By the way anyone remember Adebayor saying he would quit if Gooners do not win the title.Guess he should start thinking about that.

That cant possibly be real can it??? he must of been taking the piss.
Scholes back is fantastic news. hoefully it means that we can see less of micheal “inconsistent” carrick. who knows maybe we might see some passes that move forward.
Manucho seems like SAF might have pulled off another peice of shrewd buisness and found us a poor mans drogba who has a truckload of potential and gives us something that we have been lacking- height/variety up front.
All in all a good news week (especially seeing Arsenal self-destruct!)

I’m holding judgetment of Manucho - so far I’ve seen him score one goal. We really can’t tell what kind of player he is/potential he has til we’ve seen lots more.
Didn’t know the ginger prince was back, Anderson and Scholes…hrm…
I actually could see Scholsey becoming a super sub, it’s clear he doesn’t have the stamina to play at his best for the 90, but as a a 55/60 minute impact player, he can change a game.
January 25th, 2008 at 15:51
LMAO! we should hire that guy for skysports
January 25th, 2008 at 16:37
Great header, but I’ll save my opinions for later after I watch more of his game.
And it’s good to hear from Scholes! Cuz I think our middle field is strongest
when Scholes and Anderson play.

cut tribal some slack RR, your right when they say they copy and paste stuff but they copy and paste stuff from more or less All papers. not just crap like the suck, and the daily shite!!
January 25th, 2008 at 19:33
RR just said so coz people here were really bashing Tribal here coz of the whole Ronaldo thing…
January 25th, 2008 at 21:24
manucho looks decent. Will have to see what he can do at united before passing judgement.
I could feel myself cringe as I watched that video of giggs ronaldo and fergie. It was funny.
January 25th, 2008 at 21:53
I’ll bash tribal for a different reason then! Because if you want to find some comments on a United story that plunge the depths of human decency that’s where you’ll find them! More than that I’m told they are added by the people involved in the site to wip up anger and increase traffic.
I for one have imposed a blanket ban on the site. It has nothing of interest you can’t find somewhere else! If we all Ignore it, it may go away!
January 26th, 2008 at 3:21
guys i know this isnt relevant but im beginning to panick. We are about to begin FEBRUARY and there are 15 games left until the league finishes and Neville hasnt played ONE league game. just 15 left and i doubt hes going to play this season. sorry but i cant see brown guiding us to champions league success
January 26th, 2008 at 7:11
Browns not been that bad.. In fact he’s been solid… your reseravtions about him facing the best wimgers in the world in UCL are understandable.. But then you cant be buying all the time.. and plus id rather have a fit Brown there than a no-match-fitness Neville… So even if Gary makes a comeback, it will be some time before we’ll see him in the Chmpions League at least.. Me thinks not in this season at least…

that is absolutely GREAT for the boy and club, he could be a real star and atleast we have a bit of cover albeit he has no exp, but this could do wonders for his career.
January 26th, 2008 at 14:49
Anyone know how tall Welbeck is? All I could find is Wikipedia, which says he is 6.5 feet tall. Doubtful.
January 26th, 2008 at 18:30
He is pretty tall,i would say about 6 foot
January 26th, 2008 at 18:57
we dont need a striker now then, we rooney tevez, manucho(most likely) and welbeck, im discluding another striker because he’s most likly to be injured when we need him. thats not even mentioning brandy and campbell, i rate campbell very highly and i reckon we’re gonna use him next season, the un-named strikell likely be sold in the summer.
January 26th, 2008 at 22:04
Danny welbeck…I reckon the lad will make it.He has natural striker instincts(rossi!) and he dam sure knows where the goal is(forget the pen).he shoots with both feet and hes quite quick.the thing that sets him apart from other strikers is he has class(which campbell, brandy, dong imo dont have)He reminds me of henry…. something. I reckon it is the end of the unnamed striker.lol
January 27th, 2008 at 2:12
i was wondering when Welbeck would join up with the first team. it seemed like every time i read reserve or youth team news on manutd.com it talked about the boy scoring a brace or a hat trick. i’m very excited about Welbeck and Manucho because they both have so much potential. but we should all be careful not to encumber these lads with wild expectation. these players are going to face an enormous increase in the quality of opponents compared to the youth and angolan leagues respectively. We don’t need to put any undo pressure on them. after all, we’re not Newcastle.
January 27th, 2008 at 19:49
Just finishing up my second Angolan game from the ACN with Angola looking to have it 3-1 on Senegal. Manucho scored twice. The first was a powerful header and the second he knew little about but found the ball at his boots after poor defending. He did put it in though. The kid is great with his head but he looks slow and awkward. He doesn’t attack the ball unless its on him. He lacks desire to get on the ball and flows out of the game when he doesn’t get service. When he pulls on United’s colors he will be getting those quality balls so we have that to look forward to. If he doesn’t push up the desire level he won’t leave the bench IMO.
January 29th, 2008 at 10:42
We all said the same about dong when we announced we were signing him, but look at him now. Cant even get in the reserves’ team. Manucho looks good but is still yet to prove himself at a high enough levelk in my opinion. What you reckon lads?
