Sepptic Blabbermouth Opens Gob + Roundup

Tag: Manchester United News @ 4:33 pm

Not very long ago I mentioned something about the UEFA president losing his mind. Yesterday it was the turn of the FIFA president; true to type, he didn’t disappoint.

This is what the great man had to say, read on:

“The important thing is, we should also protect the player. If the player wants to play somewhere else, then a solution should be found because if he stays in a club where he does not feel comfortable to play then it’s not good for the player and for the club. I’m always in favour of protecting the player and if the player, he wants to leave, let him leave. I think in football there’s too much modern slavery in transferring players or buying players here and there, and putting them somewhere.”

Mr. Blatter, it may seem now, has no idea of what he’s talking about or what he’s wishing for. Whilst comparing modern footballers to slaves is laughable there is something fundamentally wrong with the FIFA president’s statement that is worrying for the game at large, if he really meant what he said. Foremost among them is the fact that the president is not aware of the direction football is moving.

The Bosman Ruling and the Webster clauses have ensured that if there was any person benefiting, it was the footballer. If someone paid £120,000 a week to a slave then I wonder why anyone even banned slavery, in the first place. Most people would cut themselves in a million places to get that sort of wages. More importantly, sane people would like to believe that footballers ought to be rather happy with the wages they get in comparison to regular folk.

Dear Mr. Sepp, if you aren’t worried about agent and player power then you might want to get in touch with another of your minions, Mr. Platini, who wants to setup an egalitarian (rather utopian) European league system. If he wants equality giving more power to the player would make promising kids from smaller clubs move to the big ones at will with a few pennies thrown about as ‘compensation’ to the parent club. Players would be one phone call away from being poached. Contracts? What contracts?

Forget about the dream, where everyone competes on an even keel in Europe, entirely — although, even now, that dream is unlikely to be realised.

So Mr. Blatter, shut that trap of yours, and as Paul Doyle of the Guardian suggests, be careful for what you wish for.

* * *

Meanwhile, PFA deputy rubbishes Blatter’s comments. Paul Parker also chimes in, calling those statements ‘daft’.

Ahmed on Soccerlens has written a long, but very good, review on the 2007/08 season. We did that in RR over a month ago which you can find here: [Part I | Part II | Part III] But anyway do read Ahmed’s review too, was comprehensive and done in one post as against my three — which could be rather bothersome to navigate.

In other news, according to the Daily Mail, we seem to have signed the Brazilian twins. I am not sure how true this is because I have reported this very same bit of news three times before. I don’t see anything on the main site, though.

It appears as if someone pops into Guillem Balague’s website and take a dump — cue: this transfer rumours page.

And that’s that from me. Cheerio… and happy Blatter bashing.

  • @Shreyas: Truthfully it’s gratifying to see someone finally come around to my way of thinking and realize that all is not well and the team has been dragging it’s royal ass trying to prevent the inevitable while doing nothing to buy replacement players that will be needed to fill the massive void left by Ronaldo. We are in a serious state in this club’s history and all our success could go poof like a ball of smoke instantly. If things remain the same, I can see this team literally collapsing from the weight that this situation and the team’s stand pat attitude is bringing. I’m not talking loss of League and CL crowns. no, I mean we will struggle to make it into the top 4 and even make it at all into the following year’s CL. To the Positive Brigade I say the following. Put my theories down all you like but as you can see right now I am coming out as more and more wise buy the minute. And that’s not me with a swelled head and overinflated ego talking. That’s me stating the obvious. It’s as clear as spring rain and we all need to wake up and smell reality. If Fergie is Christ like to us, just remember who turned out to be Judas and what ended up happening to Christ. Ah well, we need a little melodrama now and then.

  • @allmanunited: You seem to think that he is some knd of robot you can turn on or off. He’s a human being and he doesn’t want to be here. He barely knows the meaning of professionalism yet alone knows how to spell it. To expect him to go out on to the pitch every game and give 100% is naive and totally ridiculous. Also, the first sign of him dogging it or being selfish and Rooney and the gang will pounce on him like rabid wolves on a bloody carcass. To play him in a lame duck scenario is nothing short of insanity and could fracture the team in calamitous way. This isn’t FIFA 08 for crying out loud, it’s real life and this is a very serious and very sensitive situation that could easily erupt into a powderkeg. Send him packing for crying out loud, and not a day to late.

  • @Grognard: take my word for it mate, the hard core support at OT were always 50/50 on the guy coz of his workrate and commitment in certain games, I was over 3 times last year and although I didnt hear it myself 2 of my friends where at matches when sections of the support gave him dogs abuse.
Can you imagine the welcome he is going to get now.

  • @Fred The Red: Honestly, if he is forced to play a season for us I think he could be in danger from psychotic fans who get out of hand. If he was to commit to the team that would be different. I see the opposition to him being extreme next season should he actually suit up for us. I wouldn’t bet on it though.

  • @Grognard: I agree, SAF needs to wake up and smell the cofee coz most of the United fans that I speek to over here in Belfast are sick of Ronaldo and that was before yesterdays outburst, his ingratitude really is stunning and although I would love to see him rot in the reserves, I think United are better of shot of him now coz all joking aside, in football terms I dont think Ive seen a more selfish, disrespectal and self absorbed display than Ronaldo has put on this summer and the frightening part about it is, I doubt that he even cares.
The unfortunate part about it is that by selling him, his comments will have achieved thier goal which could be seen as a victory for him and Madrid but lets be real here wether he stays or goes this summer, we have learnt an awful lot about Mr Ronaldo this summer and either way hes not the type of personality that I want at the club, so as far as Im concerned its time for him to go.

  • Sepp Blatter has put his foot in his mouth again by claiming that Cristiano Ronaldo is being treated like a slave at Manchester United.

It’s not the first time the Fifa president, who was once described as “a man who has 50 ideas a day, 51 of them bad”, has got the back up of the entire footballing world. His outspoken views cover a vast range of subjects from women’s football to the size of the goalposts. So is he the voice of reason or a madman with too much power? Judge for yourself…

    1. Why have two halves when you can have four quarters? Blatter’s plan to make the beautiful game more popular in the United States sinks like Derby County.

    2. Blatter claims that women players should wear tighter shorts to make the game more sexy.

    3. The president is not finished with women’s football yet as he dives in with both feet to announce that “homosexuality is more popular” in the female game.

    4. The game is becoming boring. We need more goals. Solution? Make the goals bigger – 25cm higher and 50cm wider should do the trick.

    5. “I think there is too much football on TV”. Blatter bites the hand that feeds.

    6. Blatter threatens to ban Spain from major tournaments six months before Luis Aragones’s team triumph at Euro 2008. Why? The Spanish government wants sporting associations to become more democratic.

    7. Why have one Graham Poll when you can have two? Sepp wants two referees for us to abuse and ridicule.

    8. Blatter alienates the whole of Italy by accusing Marcello Lippi’s team of cheating during the World Cup finals in Germany in 2006.

    9. One billion cricket-mad Indians scratch their heads after Blatter urges them to put down their bats and take up the beautiful game. “If your brother asks for a fish, don’t give him the same; instead, teach him how to catch it,” Sepp announces on an official visit to India. You what?

    10. Try searching for “Blatter” and “mad” on google. You’ll get more than 100,000 results.

As a mad Gooner, I have sympathy with Manchester United. Ronaldo is under contract. This is the same situation as we have with Hleb and Adebayor who are both under contract. Forget Ronaldo says, he basically wants more money. Another greedy player! The fans, we are the mugs. However, I do not know many slaves that are allowed to sign a contract!!

  • I’m devastated about how Blatter’s utterings are now a direct catalyst for Ronaldo’s move. Not only did Blatter say that he thinks, Ronaldo should move, but he also gave Ronaldo a weapon. By agreeing with Blatter, Ronaldo has now enraged so many fans that him staying seems more and more unlikely (even though at this point, I still think, he’ll stay because we won’t sell him). I think it shows the class of United fans that we won’t tolerate statements like these, but I wonder how Real Madrid’s fans feel about it?

I got to thinking. To me, it appears more and more clear that this whole thing is orchestrated by Real Madrid. I’m not removing responsibility from Ronaldo, because any sane person would never agree to Blatter’s remarks, but he’s only 23 and can be lured into something like this, if the snake’s tongue is poisonous enough, and we all know the tongue of Calderon (and now Blatter).

But the thing is that back in Febrary this very year, Blatter was angered by the verdict by the decision on the Andy Webster case (that RR mentioned), which gave players the right to exit contracts by buying their way out after a certain number of years, depending on their age at the time of signing. He said something like: “The decision is very destructive for football and is a great victory for those players and agents, who play with the idea of breaching contracts without fullfilling them”. So summed up, he said that players and agents were given too much power. This is 5 months ago.

And now he claims that players and agents should have more power, and that players are enslaved by their clubs.

It makes no sense, unless you put on your conspiracy specs, and so I will. *specs on*. Isn’t it obvious that Blatter is payed off by Real Madrid to aid them in their pursuit? How else can we interpret this shift in mood and opinion. It’s a little different – it’s completely opposite. How can anyone make such a dramatic U-turn in 5 months over something that important in football today, unless he’s got someone filling his pockets?

If this matter isn’t looked into, it’s frightening times ahead for our beloved sport, and I’m serious about this.

    *specs off*

Same feeling. That curropted SOB should be put in jail and fucked in the ass 24/7.

  • Real Madrid’s Calderon grateful to friend Blatter for Ronaldo comments
    tribalfootball.com – July 11, 2008

Real Madrid are ecstatic with FIFA president Sepp Blatter’s demands that Manchester United should allow Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Old Trafford.
AS says Real president Ramon Calderon’s phone never stopped buzzing yesterday morning as club powerbrokers and supporters sought his reaction from Blatter’s amazing comments.

Blatter is a close friend of Calderon and a supporter of Madrid – and Real directors are convinced his intervention will be the final twist of the arm needed for United to come to the negotiating table.

Indeed, the timing of Blatter’s comments have been welcomed by Real’s board as they believe the next two weeks will be critical in deciding whether Ronaldo pulls on a white shirt next season.

One AS columnist, Joaquin Maroto, acknowledged that Blatter’s statements came from the FIFA president’s concerns that the Premiership was hoarding the world’s best talent and becoming increasingly dominant in the Champions League.

  • Blatter’s quotes about the webster rule on Feb 10 and Ronaldo on Jul 10, for our reading pleasure :???: :

Feb 10: “The decision which CAS took is very damaging for football and is a pyrrhic victory for those players and their agents, who toy with the idea of rescinding contracts before they have been fulfilled”

Jul 10: “The important thing is we should also protect the player. And if the player wants to play somewhere else, then a solution should be found. If he stays in a club where he does not feel comfortable to play, then it’s not good for the player and for the club. I’m always in favour to protect the player and if the player wants to leave, let him leave.”

Feb 10: “Because of this unfortunate decision, the principle of contractual stability, as agreed in 2001 with the European Commission as part of the new transfer regulations and which restored order to the transfer system, has been deemed less important than the short-term interests of the player.”

Jul 10: “In football, there’s too much modern slavery, in transferring players or buying players here and there and putting them somewhere. We are trying now to intervene in such cases. The reaction to the Bosman law was to make long-lasting contracts in order to keep the players. Then, if he wants to leave, there is only one solution: he has to pay his contract.”

Feb 10: Under Blatter, a lawyer himself, moves will now be afoot inside Fifa to rectify Article 17 and to attempt to safeguard the sanctity of players’ contracts. Fifa insist that breaking a contract without just cause remains “unjustified” and is concerned that, in future, any player in the same situation as Webster will know the cost of buying themselves out of a deal.

Jul 10: Blatter, the Real madrid member and calderon minion has taken yet another bribe and maybe promises of votes in the next election, to stab another knife into the heart of football.

  • This little weasel must be sold immediately.

If he is forced to stay he wont perform, the fans will boo him, he will spend majority of season sulking, throwing up hands, getting sent off, sitting on bench. His transfer fee will drop MASSIVELY.

Cut our losses, sell the little pr**k for £85 million and then wait for the inevitable draw against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

At this stage the fee isn’t even important, the damage he is doing is immeasurable and it should be solved at once. Give it up Alex, he’s a lost cause and certainly not worth the hassle.

  • Tomas I love you!!!

I want him sold now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is a disgrace, he is urinating on all the fans who have stuck by him through thick and thin. When he first came and was just a show pony and we supported him after the World cup.

Fergie needs to loose the principal part and let him leave, this is not a battle of wills with him and Real, he needs to know the fans no longer want Ronaldo to wear the shirt and that is more important.

  • If we sell Ronaldo we may as well say goodbye to all our future and present players as we are saying that 1) We are a selling club 2) Real are a bigger club than us 3) That if you unsettle a player in the media we will sell him

Not to mention the first sign that we would be willing to sell him knocks about 20mill of his price tag. Even marca has reported over the last few weeks that they arent willing to pay silly money and are looking at a deal in the £40mill range so any excuse to knock millions off just plays into their hands.

As for Ronaldo agreeing with Sepp, lets be honest pretty much every player currently playing will agree with it. After all who wouldn’t agree with it something that would allow you freedom to change jobs if they wished. TBH I also think that while sepp may have used the wrong words especially calling it slavery he does have a point. How many of us in our work contracts don’t have a way for us to leave our job if we wish to go and work somewhere else, pretty much everyone will have, normally in the form of a notice period. Footballers really are treated more as commodities than workers and while I personally think thats fine its understandable that people, especially players will feel its wrong

  • Wakey wakey, you wanna pay me £120k a week and give me a signing-on fee of xx Million? I’ll sign a contract that binds me to a company for 4 years. It’s absolutely ridiculous to propose players can walk away from contracts whenever they want, where will that leave the clubs and their already stretched finances? Who’s going to pay for transfer fees and wages when each team will be required to make dozens of signings each year? What kind of football would result in such an open system? Nothing worth watching in my opinion.

And what of all the smaller clubs? Any player who’s half decent wanders to the gates of the top four and leaves zero behind for development of grass roots.

A contract is signed for a reason, you want out? discuss it with your club, don’t go around whining to the media like that scumbag CR7

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @ Wakey: I disagree that it makes us look like a selling club. If anything, over the past few years we’ve sold less of our key players than anyone (except maybe AC Milan). Ronaldo really is an exception, due to his upbringing, arrogance and ego.

I do, however, somewhat agree with the price argument. Which why I still strongly believe the ‘right’ answer to United’s problem is to say: we would only sell him if a bid in excess of £70m came in. Hell, just look at what it’s done for Aulas at Lyon! At the moment the United management are just feeling hurt and acting like children. He’s not for sale. Please, football is a business, everyone is for sale. If another club has the money and a player wants to leave, we should let them, it’s that simple.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Also why do people seem to think Ronaldo won’t play well if we keep him. Do you really think he is going to throw his reputation away to be petty. As he has said himself its his dream to play for Real but sometimes dreams aren’t meant to come true. As I’ve said before he may want to fulfil his dream but he hasn’t shown a desire to simply quit the club (Unlike some players in the past who were openly eager to leave to any club no matter what, see players like Heinze, Ruud and even Beckham – who during that last season seemed to want to get away from Fergie no matter what. Probally due to the clear dislike that Fergie had for his wife)and if it doesnt happen I don’t see any reason he won’t just settle down, play his football to continue winning trophies, winning personal awards and keeping his dream move alive (As a drop in form could see the chance to join Real dissaper for good)

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Wakey, It is not his desire to play for Real it is the way he has gone about it.

The real issue, is it makes good business sense to sell. He is a the height of his transfer value, and WE DON’T WANT HIM.

He has let us all down, with his behaviour and attitude I went to a lot of games last season and he is not that popular even then, I think sell get as much money as posible and move on.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @ Wakey – the only one of those who wanted to leave for ‘any’ club was Heinze, and to be honest I still have no idea what happened there. Ruud didn’t want to leave and Becks has frequently said he’d only leave United to go to Real, as it is the only other club he’d feel he was moving on par with us.

I think he’s behaving like a child. He wants to go Madrid and doesn’t care what he does to achieve that. See Hargreaves, Owen ;)

  • @Jig:

You will notice I wasn’t arguing for an open system. I simply stated that there is a valid point in there and that its understandable that players agree with that point as the way football works they are looked at by the clubs as commodities.

As i said in my first comment its probably right for football that they are treated as commodities but that doesn’t mean its totally ridiculous and thats why Sepp said them. He is clearly picking an aspect of football that would cause issue for the clubs who are against the 6+5 rule. The clubs keep using the ‘its illegal’ as their get out and he is using this to highlight what other things in football are illegal or unethical

  • @Beachryan:

We talking about the same Ruud who demanded a transfer on the morning of a cup final. Then spent the next season having regular bust ups with the other players and management. He wanted out. As for beckham, yes its not as clear cut with him but he didnt look happy at the club in his last season and his reaction to the boot indecent seemed a clear cut cry for someone to come and get him (As he milked that).

  • Ruud had massive problems with Ronaldo, and that was partly the reason Ruud left.

Ronaldo has no class and to say that clubs use players as commodities is wrong, players use clubs and vehicles for their own self gain.

Lampard, Adabeyor are all looking to move for more money and so probably is Ronaldo. Clubs don’t hold a gun to players heads to sign a 4 year contract worth 140k a week. Players are now getting so greedy and are loosing their relationship with the fans through it.

I am of the opinion now that ronaldo is moving. I know that ferguson wants to keep him but whats the point if his heart is not in it. He will only want to leave next year and his value would drop. I say cash in, and ask for £80 million, put up or shut up, cash straight up, not in installments. Use the £80 mil to sign Tevez (£20/25mil) buy a new striker (no idea who but probably berbatov, huntelaar for £20/25 mil, and spend the remaining £30mil on a winger. There are 2 choices with this though, we could buy a left winger (ashley young) and change nani to the right or just buy an out and out right mid. I personally am scrathcing my head to think of a good right winger so i would probably prefer to push nani to the right and buy ashley young with the remaining cash. He scored 9 goals and 17 assists last year, that could double at United. Nani although far from the finished article is a good enough player to play each week and is mainly right footed anyway. Ashley young would probably cost £20 mil so we would still have enough to buy a defender (one who can play any where along the back four) and job sorted. 3 players in for 1 ungrateful bastad. Also young is english so would probably stay for his career, berbs is getting on so would love to stay here for his final career move.

  • Just reading Septic’s comments, feels me with an intense feeling of hate, pain, hurt, anguish and all those emotions that just signifies the heaviness of a man’s heart, just the type of emotions that push tears to the eyes of a grown man such as me. I am from a country were, though blessed with IMMENCE natural resources, the worst form of poverty, suffering, penury, dejection et al is felt by the citizenry. Blatter has absolutely no clue in his fat and empty brain as to what slavery really is. Who the hell is he to talk about slavery? Go to the sweat shops in South Asia, the oil fields in Nigeria, you fat son of a swine and figure out what slavery really entails. I am truly bitter because Blatter’s and Platini’s comments, all parallel the behavior of the various despots who have in turns, conspired and raped my country of her wealth, whilst making sure that nepotism is at its apotheosis. What makes my heart heavy is the ‘obvious conspiracy” to belittle our great club and corruptly take away our shine and greatness. I am truly sad. I thought all shenanigans and their like were restricted to the “dark” patches of this planet. Why is there a plot by Blatter, Madrid and the rest of Europe to destroy English football and most importantly denigrate our great club Manchester United? A club that has brought smiles to my face and millions of fans alike when there was really absolutely nothing to smile about? Why? Why? Why?

That said, fuck Blatter from the very depth of my soul, and I truly hope He dies in a plane crash so I, and millions of us REDS were I come from can take to the street in wild celebrations.

The press in the UK should know better. This anti EPL plot is pretty obvious, so rather than give the rest of Europe, the likes of Marca and absolute field day, to rape, very savagely the EPL in a very grotesque doggy style, they should step up and “rep” their own.

Back to Manchester United, I for one violently abused Ronaldo on this blog for he’s utter disrespect for the club, we fans and most, SAF. However I always relished the idea that, if Ronaldo’s media stunt was just for a pay rise, then SAF should yield, buy a striker and I would welcome Judas with open arms. It seems I was very very wrong. Judas Iscariot is beyond redemption now as he has hung himself from the tree.

Unlike Grog and the rest, whom I absolutely respect on this blog, Ronaldo’s comment has filled me with an even more intense amount of hate. Why should we sell him now? Why should we allow the whores in Madrid together with Marca, Platini and Blatter, have an orgy at our expense and bleed their asses? I was previously never in support of keeping CR7 in reserves or in the stands. But now?

PLEASE Fergie show me U’re that arrogant son of a bitch that takes no bullshit from no one, and has steered our ship for 22 yrs with such obstinacy and ruthlessness. Give a bick fuck U to the rest of the world. Tell them U are never one to buckle under any sort of pressure. Let Ronaldo have his dream, but only in his sleep which I pray he dies in, even though it will bring him less pain.

DON’T SELL FERGIE. NOBODY CAN FUCK WITH YOU. RAPE THEM ALL.
Manchester United is not Wigan Athletic or Espanyol or Betis. It’s the popular club in the world mates, trust me. Fergie, even if we don’t win nothing till you retire, which is astronomically unlikely, show us you love this club, protect our history and prestige by telling Calderon to go to hell. We will not be bullied, not by FIFA, UEFA or anybody for that matter into disobeying the very football laws you all claim to protect. We Are Manchester UNITED.

Lastly, I think Arsene the Dyke saw this all coming and was silently laughing loudly at Fergie. Fuck him too.

SAF is even more stubborn than all these assholes put together. He has made up his mind. He aint selling him. Ronaldo may twitch and cry. Blatter might call us slave drivers. Still wont happen. And he’ll play Ronaldo. Every single match. Irrelevent of whether fans boo him or not. Next year is another story. But this year naa-aah…
And why should we sell him\?? Worlds best player. May not want to play with us but so what??? I know he has too much pride to underperform so thats outta question/. Leads to me thinking one thing.. .He will stay and play as well as last season. …

He said that he would ask for Ramos and Drenthe plus £40 mil in any deal, with ramos coming in at right back, and drenthe as left back cover. He then suggested buying Ribery and a striker (preferably youngish and cheap) and mentioned that Falcoa kid who would be quite cheap. Just wanted to know if you thought this deal would be good or my suggested deal above was good, involving ashley young, berbatov, tevez plus defender. Please discuss.

  • @Wakey: We are talking about destroying an operational infrastructure that is in place to protect all teams as well as players. Contracts are not one sided documents. They protect the player as much as the team and are negotiated before anyone signs them. Teams need them in order to protect their interests and their investmens or they will no longerbe able to compete on a year to year level. Would you like it if Tevez, Rooney, Anderson, Nani, Hargo, Rio, Vidic and others all of a sudden said “you know, we are feeling a little unsure about this club’s future so we all have agreed to terminate our present deals and we all want to be allowed to join other clubs”. No contract or deals that aren’t binding would create worldwide chaos in the game as every team would struggle with musical chair lineups and not possess any stability or player tenure to bank itself against and plan for the future.

And please, to compare us poor working stiffs who go out and try to scratch a living with spoilt little millionaires who are living a life in clover is just so wrong, I cannot find more words to describe it. And as you know, I’m never at a loss for words.

  • @Wakey: He has already thrown away and destroyed his reputation. He has already shown how immature, childish and self centered he is. This is a team game, when one cog in the wheel isn’t working like the rest, the whole machine breaks down. And to honestly think that his teammates will open their hearts to him after he has insulted them all and basically referred to them as slaves when they are willing athletes contracted to play for a club they want? His selfishness has just sabotaged their dreams to win more trophies and not given the Boss the respect and appreciation he deserves? Do you honestly think that when he starts to do his selfish routine on the pitch that this time, Rooney and others might not get enraged? I have played on a team with an outcast and trust me, it’s not pretty. It didn’t last long but while he was on the team, we all hated his guts and the team sucked. Ronaldo has said and done terrible things and cannot really be forgiven for them knowing that if he sticks around, its’ as a lame duck player who will be moving on as soon as a transfer deal is agreed upon. He is a malignant cancer waiting to take hold and there are players on our club who look up to him and who listen to him. They a re prime candidates to be poisoned and corrupted by his screwed up ethics and lack of dignity and respect. Honestly, some of you need to wake up already. Is nothing sinking in here? :???:

  • We are all fed up with prima donna. Fergie needs to swallow his pride and kick his arse as hard as he can in the direction od Madrid. If and in view when he plays again for us, his image reputation and support of the fans has gone.

  • Also Chelsea and Arsenal are fighting out over Arharvin, not us what a surprise.

  • Oh and Arsenal are lining up Huntelaar as a replacement for Adabeyor!

I know its only paper talk but we are not linked really to anyone which is surely concerning.

  • @Stephen: I agree. Not only does it make good business sense to sell but we need to avoid him further poisoning the club from within. Also, the damage we will have to sustain to our club and it’s image is minor compared to the damage he can do in one season playing for us and polluting the minds, hearts and attitudes of others around him. Personally, I want no player playing for my team that isn’t 100% committed to the the team and that doesn’t have his heart set on just that team. Behavior and attitude can be the greatest asset to a player and a club but if gone sour, it can also be the worst. He is not an android or some synthetic being that we just wind up or press a switch and poof, he goes out and scores 40 goals and smiles at everybody. Life and reality doesn’t work like that.

If Fergie is going to allow his stubbornness and pride take precedence with this situation he stands a chance of destroying part of the incredible legacy he has built. We always talk about the fact that Fergie can do no wrong. Yes he can. He too is a human being and what is being asked of him right now isn’t as much a coaching issue as it is a political and social issue. In that arena he has made mistakes in the past and there is nothing ensuring us that he is not capable of doing so again. Beckham, RVN, Keane, Stam were all mistakes made by a hot headed Scot who temporarily lost his perspective and made a mountain out of a molehill. Back then he had a hair trigger temper and tolerated no insubordination whatsoever. Why is he mellowing now when what Ronaldo has done far exceeds the trouble all those other players had done combined? Is he honestly unaware of the potential damage of keeping a human being against his will on a team that demands loyalty, focus and dedication to it’s cause? No he is not a slave trader but then again, if your greatest player asset does not want to play, you must decide what is best for the club as a whole. Proper perspective and sound judgment is vital here. To hell with principles and pride. At the end of the day they don’t amount to a hill of beans. It’s time to concede defeat and sell the player. But never let Madrid dictate the price. Do exactly what Zenit did with Arshavin and demand a price above what Real may want to pay. If we sell him for 40 million and Robinho, Fergie and Gill should get the sack. Take nothing less than 70 million and either Robinho or Ramos or even both. If they want the cunt so badly, let them pay dearly for him, but let them do so.

Also, take care of this mess now, not later. This team needs players to replace the best player in the World. Demand a transfer kitty from the Glazer’s and go out and buy three players who will allow United to sail through the transition without as much turbulence. It’s time to make a deal for either Berbatov or Huntelaar and stop pussy footing around. Both teams have signed strikers to replace those players so go get one of them now, before Ronaldo is dealt. After he is dealt will guarantee a special price hike just intended for United.

It’s not the responsibility of one club to change the way things are being done in the world of football today. Manchester United as the lone beacon of sanity vs Real Madrid is not going to make a difference. Why? Because as long as you do not have the support and encouragement of FIFA and UEFA in this type of action or stand, then you are basically fighting the tide up river without a paddle. It’s a battle that you cannot win. Lord Wellington and Napoleon would tell Fergie that he is fighting a forlorn hope. The forces are to strong and too numerous against you and the only time you win this kind of battle is in fantasy fiction. It’s time to concede and to retool for other battles ahead.

  • @Beachryan: Hargreaves may seem to be a similar case but it isn’t. Yes Hargreaves had signed a contract and yes United actually tapped up the player. But Hargreaves stated that even though he would like to go to United, he still loved Bayern and was very appreciative for everything they did for him. And he went out and played with a good attitude and true professionalism while not alienating his teammates. Of course then he got injured and so we inherited a player with a knee tendinitis problem but that’s beside the point. Hargo is a gentleman and respected Bayern and even Beckenbauer and Rummneigge came out and wished him luck and thanked him for his service publicly. The only one who was cooler in the process was Hoeness but then again, he’s always been a bit of an asshole. Ask yourself, where in all this has Ronaldo shown and gratitude, respect or humility and professionalism like Hargo? Where has he complimented his current team while admitting he would still like to move to his dream team? No, I’m afraid he is cut from a different kind of cloth and this one has been dipped in acid.

  • Grog, I have just wiped the tears from eyes with the beauty of your post.

The team with the best players do not win trophies a la Galactico’s its the best team with players who put their heart and soul into the club that win.

His comments such as “if they pay me what thay said” and “I love wearing white” are simply sickening, especiallly after what we have done for him as player. United is a force of nature and we will move on, ideally with a couple of new signings, lets show our class and ditch this poser, and we all can just move on, for the better.

  • @Liam: Tapp them up with what, marbles and a promises of the best fish n chips in all England? Lets not forget our current inactivity in the transfer market may be due to the fact this team has no disposable funds. Adding insult to injury I feel.

  • @WhiteY: WOW, very well said mate and you have my sincere thanks and utmost respect. Although I am one of those advocates who is crying for Fergie to sell him in order to move on and prevent a cancer, you on the other hand are echoing my initial feelings a month ago of saying to Hell with the Madrid’s and FIFA’S and teaching them all a big lesson that they cannot intimidate or manipulate the great Manchester United as well as try to destroy the dominance of the EPL. Well said, and not entirely a bad idea.

    2 schools of thought to consider;

    A. We sell him now and benefit financially while replacing him with either Berbatov or Huntelaar and up to three more world class players who when integrated into our system can help United maintain their dominance and position in the game.

    B. We hold on to him and bench him. We only play him in the very last minutes of games we are comfortably in front so that we match the ten game minimum quota rule that FIFA demands. This way he cannot dog it on the field and we don’t reward him by giving him playing time either. And we do this for the next 4 years. He has called United slave traders, by God lets prove him right.

Now you must ask yourself this question, are United willing and able to do Plan B. I’m sure Fergie would but he isn’t the one running the club’s finances and he isn’t the one signing the checks. Are the Glazer’s as committed to this stand as Fergie might be? I rather doubt it and I seriously doubt they entertain any scenario that has such a high investment sit on the bench to rot while their club struggles on the pitch. I don’t believe for a second that their pockets and their ethics are high enough to allow this lesson to be taught. Not even for just one season. and to top that all off, they do not (and I firmly believe this with all my heart and soul) have the available cash to replace Ronaldo sufficiently without digging into the money that would come their way in a Ronaldo sale.

So I am hoping you can see the other side of the coin in your brave and tempting proposal. Also, is it the best thing for United to take it on the chin and suffer in their domestic and European campaign in order to make a point? I really don’t think Real, FIFA or UEFA would give a damn if poor form and a dip in the standings hurt our chances. And certainly the rest of the EPL teams wouldn’t give a damn either despite the fact that United is actually representing and defending them against FIFA’s and UEFA’s bias. This is a battle where there are no external allies to help support you. Everyone is out for themselves and thus I doubt seriously if Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool executives would stop, think and applaud the sacrifice made by United on their behalf. It really is a cutthroat business after all is said and done.

  • @WhiteY: Thanks for the vote of encouragement. Yes I do believe that Fergie did exactly as you say regarding Wigan’s two imports. They are good players but they are nowhere near United class and I firmly believed at the time that it was a ploy of Fergie’s to unsettle them and to make them very nervous leading up to our must win match away to Wigan. But then again, when it comes to that kind of gamesmanship, Fergie has few peers. By the way and if you don’t mind, what country are you from as I am curious?

  • @Piper: I want you to remember this once he has gone because I will be one who definitely calls you on it. And asking us to relax is just way out there. Perhaps the bullshit Ronaldo and Septic Batter doesn’t phase you in your present state of nirvana but I for one am very distressed and concerned about what could happen here. Sluffing it off and asking us to relax is like telling people to go out and get some fresh air during the London Blitz. It’s not time to “relax” I’m afraid and it’s that kind of attitude that personally frustrates the Hell out of me. Fiddle away while Rome burns.

  • @Matthew: Ribery is absolutely not for sale by Bayern and they refuse to even hear offers. Bayern are the continents Man Utd as they run a tight and very honorable ship and I would hate to see United try to pull a Madrid on them. They already played a little dirty when it came to Hargreaves.

  • @Stephen: Very true Stephen, very true. And I’m sad to say so. Fergie needs to realize that he is not Manchester United, the supporters are who make the team. And the supporters (mob) rule. Do as we please on this because this situation has gotten very personal. Man Utd may not be a classic case of a democracy because it is privately owned, but there comes a time when even they have to listen to the masses. We are headed for disaster if we keep Ronaldo. Anyone with an IQ over 5 can see this. Pride and principle be damned here. Do the right thing Fergie and rid us of the cancer growth.
