Shirt Numbers Anyone?
Wayne Rooney will wear the No. 10 shirt from next season.
While practically numbers don’t really matter, we all as fans understand the subtle significance. A number 10 especially can be a stamp of confidence from a manager to a player, which can egg him on to better things, and give him a sense of responsibility.
For Rooney (and United), he will be stepping into the shoes of players with lofty reputations as Law, Hughes and van Nistelrooy. He would obviously have reason to be proud with this kind of recognition. We have already seen how he has managed to curtail his temper and bring it down to the occasional annoyance. Hopefully this would give him further cause for responsibility and the sense to prove to the team and fans that he truly deserves the shirt.
There is no doubting his talent and contribution to our cause. It’s just a case of upping ones’ game with every passing season. Mind you, he is yet to peak.
Speaking of shirt numbers, here’s a question I’d put to the readers: What numbers, do you people reckon, would go to our new signings?
I say Hargreaves gets No. 17. Anderson gets Rooney’s No. 8 and Nani No. 12. (I believe these are the numbers available at the moment)
Anyway, don’t break your heads over it. After all, they’re just numbers. Otherwise the likes of Titus Bramble and Boumsong would be world class had they been given No. 10 shirts, wouldn’t they?
So, go ahead. Let us know what you think of next season’s shirt numbers.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Hargreaves gets the No.23 (that he wore at Bayern) given the likely departure of Richardson… although a lot of players seem to like starting afresh with a new number at a new club.
Then Nani and Anderson will fight over the No.8,12 & 17 shirts.
I assume Rossi will keep the No.19, but what do you all think about Pique (#28), Evans, Foster etc.?

I believe that Anderson will get the No. 8 shirt. Nani No. 17 and Hargreaves will get No. 23. Richardson will be sold.

Haha it’s just a number right, but don’t you guys agree the dumbest thing is William Gallas wearing number 10 for Arsenal… It’s just ludacris, for a centre back!!

I dunno what to think about this…just bought my Rooney jersey for one year and now he changes his number

Nani held 17 at the unveiling.
Hargreaves was blank which leaves 8, 12, 23?
Anderson seems likely to wear 8 or 12.
Tevez wore 32 at West Ham and i think that is taken here so he could be a candidate for 8 or 12 or maybe a shirt number left by a player being sold such as 14, 23
Foster likes 26 we will see if he can get that.

Tevez chose 32 because it’s his favourite number apparently.
Regarding the William Gallas No. 10, Boulahrouz got No. 9 for Chelsea when he joined. I don’t see why they can’t just have 1-11 and have no names, coz who really cares other than glory hunters who buy the shirts with real names?
