Some Site News

Tag: Site News @ 9:00 am

Readers,

just a mention that the site isn’t dead. Apologies for not posting. Regular service will resume, and the international break hasn’t helped either. In the mean time, you can continue discussing whatever catches your fancy in the comments or head over to the other excellent United blogs in the sidebar. I’ll be back soon. I promise.

Cheers,

  • How about discussing Atletico Madrid being handed a record fine for fan’s racist abuse against Marseille and having to play up to 3 games at another stadium 300km away from Madrid.

It’s about time UEFA started handing out fines finally acting on their anti racism policies. Although I do not believe this is enough. As if this was an English club the book would have been thrown at us.

Why do Croatia get a minor fine and Atletico Madrid get a massive one?

Croatia had a history of racial abuse in the Euro’s against Turkey?

Spain did the same in Madrid against England a few years back and they got fined a pittance. All that monkey chanting was a disgrace. Spain has a history of this kind of thing. When are UEFA gonna come down hard on these people?

  • @AlphaRS: Don’t forget Aragones outburst at Henry.
You make a good pont, if this was an English club we would have been thrown out of the Champions league by now, in this country we had a very poor reputation for racism which we have almost quashed.
English clubs get threatened with expolsion from the EPC for being in debt for fucks sake, FIFA must get a grip!

  • While we have nothing worthwhile discussing in terms of United, y’all should read this article. The guy really has a chip on his shoulder, i mean, some of the points he brought up were just irrelevant and just reeked of jealousy and spiteful desperation… and they wonder why the English believe the rest of Europe is Anti-England. :???:

  • Damn international breaks. Cant fifa move this matches to the end season and stop disrupting the flow of the domestic leagues. As for altetico, serves them right. Racism is one of the worst experiences in my life. It makes me really sick when am abused because of my color and other racial insults. Am african and am proud to be dark skinned. I really dont know why it happens we are all the same.allow me to go bibilical and say we were all equal in the eyes of the lord. The sooner uefa steps up the better. IMO I support capello decision to shun the spain friendly.granted the two teams will give us a mouthwatering clash but remembering the monkey noises of 04, i would rather mute my telly than go thro a repeat of that

  • First thing I thought when I read the news was: “HA-HA, Torres is gonna be gutted! I wanna see the look on his face when he sees this!” As an Atletico fan, I am gutted about this. I cant believe how the Spanish people can be racists in this way. And to think that Atletico, a club that had 8 coloured players, can be racists is beyond me. How would Perea, Luccin, Pongolle, Asuncao and even the not-so-white Aguero think about this. Racism is terrible and when a club you support do this things its amazing. How would you feel if you found out that United fans had been boing and making pig/monkey noises at the opponents for racial purposes. Its terrible just to do it, but think if Rio, Evra, Anderson, Welbeck or Brown had been on the field! Its an absolute disgrace! Something has to be done, I think UEFA has done the right thing. I feel pity for my fellow Ateltico fans who do these things, they are nto all like that you know. The only thing that pleases me about this is that Torres will be devestated by this as he would have loved to say good-bye to the Calderon in a decent manner. After all, he is a legend there! He wont get his testimonial, but that would have been like it in a way. Screw you sucker!

  • So does anyone in the US have FIFA 09 yet? I see the release date is today but I just called the local gamestop and they said they won’t have it until tomorrow becasue today is actually the “ship” date. If anyone’s got it could you let me know from where? This international break is killing me, I need something to do…

  • @Krishnan: Well, to be honest, there are little positives emanating from the Italian game in recent times. It’s not only SKY, it’s on almost every major news source in the media. Also, SKY are a British company who focuses on the welfare of the British game, hence will always tend to focus more on the positives of the British game, plus tbh, the only worthwhile news that comes from Italy always seems to be negative. Check most sites online, it’s the same thing… why he decides to pick on SKY for showing the NEWS is beyond me. Then he started takin cheap shots, that’s when I knew there was some spite and naivety in his arguement!!

Who would you say is the top three teams in international football right now?

And who has the best defence, midfield and strikers(separately)?

Wheezy, the game’s been out for at least a week now in the UK, my younger brother has been playing it non-stop since it came out.

  • Im bored…. Why cant something interesting or funny happen? I just want saturday to come, its gonna be United time. This is like watching grass grow! With Rooney on form, Ronaldo and Berba finding their feet and United managing 3 clean sheats in a row, United have hit top gear. The only thing that actually is to think about United wise is who will play in midfield on Saturday? We have Carrick, Anderson, Hargreaves and Flecther fit. Fletcher have done well so far, Anderson is just about to hit top form, Carrick is our best CM and Hargreaves can become our best CM. I would go for Carrick and Anderson, Hargo coming on in second half. If we lead by more than two goals put him on for Andy. If not, put him on for Carrick. Its the same old problem, innit?

  • @Conor: Best team in the world right now? Spain are some lucky cunts, Brasil have just hit top form and Portugal havent won in a while. A draw against Sweden is okey, but…
Best team result wise: England.
    Best team playing wise: Germany
Best defending team: San Marino! Joke! No, I will go for… Holland.
Best midfield: Portugal. Nani-Veloso-Ronaldo-Quaresma? To die for.
    Best attacking team: Germany. Sweinchzteiger-Klose-Podolski-Ballack

  • @RedDevilEddy: That Portuguese midfield lacks steel and Quaresma and Ronaldo won’t play together. If they do then Ronaldo will play as a striker. Spain are defensively good. Senna is a good holding midfielder and Marchena is good. Best midfield should be Spain as well. Xavi, Iniesta, Senna, Silva are all good players. Best attacking team has to be Argentina.

  • @Wheezy: It seems pretty crazy to me, can’t really see any sense in it other than it being a marketing tool to build even mor excitement.
@RedDevilEddy: Good call about Germany, out I’ve not seen much of them recently but I’ve heard good things about them and Adler in particular. If Foster doesn’t turn out the way we’d hoped he could well be an option. Not sure about that Portuguese midfield though, not a big fan of Quaresma, Veloso didn’t even start ahead of Petit in the Euro’s, and he’s an awful player, and Nani’s still very inconsistent. I’d say Spain’s is the best. Attacking-wise if Adriano can get his form back properly Brazil could well be the best for another while yet.
On the topic of Portugal, it’s bad times for Querioz. If he doesn’t make significant improvements soon he’ll have no chnce of being in with a chance of getting this job.

  • @Krishnan: Know it. Just really dont care for internationals. If I could, I would make my all star International team:
    Cassilas
    Alves Rio Ramos Evra
    Ronaldo Senna Arshavin Podolski
    Aguero Rooney
subs: Buffon, Richards, Abidal, Fabregas, Kaka, Quaresma, Torres.

Now Im just talking about what I think is the best players in teh world right now. Alves is back with Barca, Evra is stady and amazing, Senna is the worlds best midfielder right now and Arshavin has found his EU form. Rooney and Aguero are really finding their feet(aka nets!). Ramos is best as a RB, but couldnt find anyone that come even close to Rio in CB, Havent seen Vidic enough at international level. And Ronaldo and Podolski are just….GREAT!
Now, question. What about this as a FIFA 09 team:
    Adler
    Richards Rio Vidic Evra
    Ronaldo Senna Carrick Podolski
    Rooney Aguero
subs: VDS, Brown, Rafael, Hargreaves, Anderson, Tevez, Berbatov
    So what do you think?

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • At the idea of Senna being the world’s best midfielder. Even worse to think that Arshavin could do a job in cm.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Conor: Senna as CDM, Arshavin as CAM. And yes, from what Ive seen Senna is the best midfielder right now. Carrick is injured, Fat Frank and Stevie me stink, Fabregas can **** my ***, Ballack sucks and Vieira is old. If you can, tell me who is the best CM in the world right now if it aint Senna. Xavi? Dont think so… He is not even a first choice starter anymore.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • The only way that formation works is if the wingers help out defensively too. Good luck getting that out of Ronaldo and Podolski.

Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Frings, Ballack, De Rossi, Cambiasso and possibly even Mascherano are all better players. Lampard and Gerrard too, with ease.

  • @Conor: I was talking about International levels. Had it been club wise, Gerrard, Ballack, Iniesta and Fabregas would have been chosen over him. But since we were talking about international levels I think he is better. Fabregas is not a astarter for Spain, Lamps and Gerrard suck, Iniesta is not as good a player as he is for Barca and I havent seen much of Frings, De Rossi or Cambiasso. Mascherano and Ballack are the only one I see as challangers, but I still cose Senna over them. Its just my thoughts and my decision, dont shoot me!

  • Internationally, Ballack’s been consistently great. Same for Frings, De Rossi and Cambiasso.

Senna’s had one good tournament(in terms of international games) and he’s the best thing since sliced bread.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • @Conor: I didnt say he is the best thing since sliced bread. And its not only one good tournatment, he has been constatly good for Spain since 2003. Since then Fegrie has tried to sign him many times without succeeding. He is good, but Carrick, Hargreaves, Gerrard, Iniesta, Fabregas, Mascherano, Sneijder, Vieira and Gattusso are all better players. Anderson will be in the near future! I just say he is the best midifielder for A COUNTRY at THE MOMENT!

  • @Krishnan: With reference to what I said about that reporter and his unjustified attack on SKY news… check this out, I didn’t even have to wait more than a day for this kind of negative stuff, and the best part, it is the ‘Italian Media’ who are behind it. That guy should focus his anger on where it belongs, and not trying to blame SKY NEWS for the negativity Italian Football oozes.

  • @Conor: Owned         . Senna is shite, he is an above average CDM, but best CM in the world? Come on. Mascherano is twice the player Senna is, and I hardly rate him.

  • @Conor: I remember him playing for Spain during the Euros 2004. :???: I must have thought about another player then. Still, I think he is a very good player. Maybe I took it too far by saying he was the best CM in the world. Okey, I did, but thats cause I mostly watch England, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Germany and Frances games. I forgot about Mascherano, my bad, he is a better CDM than Senna. But Ive never watched Frings play so I cant compare those two. When Senna plays he dominates the game and that is what you look for in a midfielder. I think Scholes, Anderson, Carrick and Hargreaves all are better than Senna. But Anderson doesnt play for Brasil that much, Carrick doesnt get a place in the England team(how on earth is that even possible), Scholes has retired from internationals and Hargo is constantly injured. I compare Senna to the ones Ive play in CM for their country: Gerrard and Lamps, Deco and Veloso, Solli and Skjlbred, Vieira and whatever his name. I dont remember Germanys CM since I havent watched them in some while. Who was the player I thought of then… :???: Well doesnt matter now, I know Senna didnt play until 2006(did he play WC?) and that you guys dont rate him high. Hopefully he proves you guys right whehn we meet them in November, if he plays like he did in 2005 we will have troubles.

  • @Wheezy: This Senna discussion is starting to get too far, I only said my meening. Senna is not the best CM in the world, but I dont think anyone can call a player that Fergie has been chasing since 2005 shite. Thats the last thing Im gonna say about Senna, I dont even like the guy! I like to watch football and base my meening from the games I watch. From what Ive seen, Carrick is the best CM England have right now. Ribery is the best LM in the world too! He is top class and a player that really fires the crowd up and get them going. Best CMs in world(that I dont base on only internationals, but also club): Carrick, Iniesta, Fabregas, Gerrard, Essien, Sneijder, Gattusso, Cambiasso, Xavi and Diego(I think he is a CM, he is CAM if not).

    Ultimate team:
    Cassillas
    Ramos Rio Vidic Evra
    Carrick Fabregas Essien
    Messi Aguero Ronaldo
subs: Buffon, Alves, Richards, Gerrard, Ribery, Torres, Rooney
We cool now or what?

This stuff is killing me! Homework is boring, weather is terrible, I am not allowed to play FIFA 09 until thursday because I “am addicted” () to video games, whcih Im not. Why cant I play Fifa, there nothing else to do when United arent playing, your friends are afraid of the dark and the news I can find on the net is: “Tristan to West Ham” SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT! Why cant Penuin or RedRanter come up with some new article. The Tevez problem was interesting, why no make one of who should play RB. Or who should take over for VDS? We have Wes, Gary and Rafael fighting for the RB spot, VDS is possibly retiring when this season is over and I dont want to go back to the times we used Carroll and Howard as our GKs. Make and article about possible replacements, unknown goalies, Foster having to get a new knee, I dont know! Just come up with something!

To me, Essien has the quality to become the best CM in the world. Hard tackling, good shooting, hard worker, fast, skillful at times, good passing and an ability to dominate games. He is young too, I dont think he is more than 24-25. Xavi as nr. 2, Carrick as nr. 3

  • @Krishnan: That’s because that’s all the worthwhile news that Italian football produces. Look at his article, when he tried to defend Italian football, he couldn’t name one positive thing about the game there and even ended up proving that English Football had more positive aspects. In fact, he said he was going to write on the Italian GK ‘crisis’… if SKY NEWS reported on that article, they would be focusing on negative stereotypes, huh? What about the Marcelo Lippi rant against the Italian Media, where he curses, should SKY not report that too. I implore you to try and find three positive, worthwhile stories from the italian game this week.. i’m sure u’ll be hard pressed.

He is complaining about SKY promoting the PL as the best.. what else are they supposed to do, we are!!! The PL has done wonders for the profile of Football on a global stage and proof is in last years CL semi’s. It’s not our fault that the Italian media machine can’t promote their League!! He complains about foreign talent, but the two arguably best teams in Italy, AC and Inter are mainly made up of foreigners, so why is he being a hypocrite?

The ironic thing is he is complaining about SKY and England trying to delibrately damage the image of Italian football, yet he is doing the same to us in his article. Taking cheap shots at our National team and foreign ownership, sorry but I find it hard to take him seriously when all logic and commonsense is ignored for emotional, biased and spiteful rants.

  • @RedDevilEddy: We only chased him once from what I can remember, summer 2006. The consensus at the time was very much that he was a stop gap after we failed to land Hargreaves. So to say SAF was following him from 2005 is probably a bit of an exaggeration. Still a good player though

@Gabriel: It does read as a pretty bitter article but there is a certain truth to it. Sky does have a propensity for over hyping things and conveniently ignoring problems. For example on the topic of football violence, there have been several incidents of violence outside of stadiums in recent times which Sky have completely failed to cover. However Italian football still has alot of work to do to get its house in order and the author seems to have a chip on his shoulder over the English game being in a much better state.
