After all this is over, is there anyone like me who thinks we might actually end up with NO new striker? I don’t think Fergie really provided for a back- up plan and if Berbatov ends up in Spurs, we might end up with nothing or some panic- buy average striker. I hope i’m wrong though.

I really actually don’t care about what happens with Ronaldo anymore. I’m just sick of all the talk about him its like he is a separate entity to the team. RR can we ban his name again I think I could do with a break from all this crap

Oh in NOTW Ronaldo apparentely hooked up with a Scot. No doubt he took Ferguson’s advice to forget Spain and learn to appreciate what Britain has to offer.

I think Levy should acknowledge that 99% of the Berbatov speculation both last summer and this summer was inspired journalism. If that unsettled the player blame the Sun not us.

He should also acknowledge that if you have a player the quality of Berbatov bigger clubs will express interest or will be linked to your player. It only unsettles the player because he knows that he is too good for the club.

It’s kinda like a poor guy scoring with a beautiful girl. He may make her reasonably happy but can you blame her if her head is turned when a rich guy comes along and says he will take her to Europe. He can get mad with the rich guy but the rich guy isn’t doing anything illegal. Really he is mad with himself that he does not have enough to offer the beautiful girl.

Really though Ferguson made an error of judgement mentioning it in the press. I am really scared now that Levy will try to sell to Barcelona out of spite.

But part of me is sure that Levy is a businessman first and foremost and is doing this to save face and knows he will not be able to refuse an improved offer from us.

I have realised something over the last week or so, and I think as United fans we need to do only one thing regarding Ronaldo.

Seperate the footballer from the man.

Ronaldo the footballer has probably the greatest talent in world football. As a footballer he is a born winner, and thus helps United win. As a footballer, he often pulls off the impossible or mesmerizing, and we should always be happy while we have Ronaldo, the footballer, in our team.

Ronaldo the man however, is a spineless mercenary, out for only himself and the limelight and personal glory. And for this we will never love Ronaldo as we do King Eric, Charlton, Best, Law, Edwards or Sir Alex.

If only we could remove Ronaldo the footballer and attach it to a man like Fletcher

@Tomas: The right way to carry negotiations is to do it away from the media glare. Fergie naming Berbatov would not be a bad thing normally because lot of clubs do confirm bids made in public. But considering Madrid's cheap advances this summer and the way Fergie's railed against their lack of class, he should be wary about naming names of players currently contracted to other clubs. And since he hasn't done it anyway, I'm glad he also sees the importance of being aware of what he says about players.

Is it me, or would there be a huge difference between the way we have conducted ourselves in the Berbartov (most likely him) matter and the way Real Madrid have conducted themselves in the Ronaldo matter, even if SAF had mentioned Berbatov’s name.

To me, there is one major difference: The fact that we have actually made a bid before talking about the player. SAF has said, we made a bid for a player, and even if he had mentioned Berbatov’s name, both Tottenham and Berbatov himself would be aware of this and it wouldn’t change much, if it became public… would it?

I’m setting this up as a qustion, because I’m not familiar with the rules in these matters. I just think, it would be fair enough to state his name, once the bid is made and every involved part is told about this. To my knowledge, Real Madrid have never made a bid for Ronaldo.

In the case, there is a problem SAF didn’t name any names in the interview that I saw… and I’m not familiar with any other interview.
