It’s Still All About Ronaldo, Love

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 11:45

If you draw a timeline of transfer related headlines concerning Ronaldo, since the Champions’ League final — which we won, by the way — and list them all, you will see that there hasn’t been anything concrete, till date, for someone to conclusively predict where Ronaldo will ply his trade next season.

That said, it isn’t surprising either.

Manchester United Make Two Signings

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 10:00

After a long, quiet summer so far, only troubled by Ronaldo’s interviews — or rather, a lack of them — United finally make two signings. Of course they aren’t much to get excited about.

First, Patrice Evra was signed for a further four years — a very important signing, if you ask me. And the second, and a lesser known one, was that of 17 year old promising youngster Davide Petrucci from Roma’s youth team.

Short Thursday Roundup

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 10:10

Will be short today; some work to take care of and precious little to write about so I’ll leave you with links to read and I’ll try to pop in and update this as and when I get the time.

More links later in the day.

Edwin’s Dutch Delight, King Cantona and The Ronaldo Daily

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 10:00

Let me first say that I’ve always loved watching Cantona speak. So, yesterday, I was watching his interview to the BBC and, true to type, he didn’t disappoint. [Those who've missed it, you can still watch it here.] He’s been a showman [and now literally, because of his involvement in films], but when he speaks of United you still see the glint in his eyes. You know how much he cares for the club.

Whilst his opinion on Ronaldo wasn’t new — that he wanted him to stay although United could do well even without him — what was revealing was when he let slip that he would like to manage United some day. “Management is like an art” is what he had to say. Of course, one mustn’t get too carried away by this because he said he’ll take up management only when he loses passion for what he’s currently doing — which, of course, is why he retired in the first place.

Speculation Continues in an Otherwise Quiet Day

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 10:15

Yes. Speculation over Ronaldo will continue for the rest of the tournament because the Great One has said that he’ll make a decision only after the tournament. So we will bow down to His wishes and wait till the end of the tournament with bated breath. After all, that’s what he meant when he said ‘two to three weeks’, a day after the Champions’ League final — who are we or the club to bother about such details as dates anyway? He will make his decision when He deems it right, and we’ll have to live with that — great man that He is.

Euro 2008 and Unsubstantiated Transfer Rumours

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 10:25

Since a lot of readers have requested more focus on the Euros I’ll add a few lines of comment on the ongoing championships myself. However, thanks to the tournament clashing with my work timings, I wouldn’t be able to comment on a large chunk of the group stages. That shouldn’t stop you from adding your thoughts on the tournament, so feel free.

I’ll make sure that there is always a Manchester United slant in the coverage of the Euros — whether it is about our players’ involvement or about possible transfer targets.

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 10:00

A mystery United player, who will not be named till the end of the week on this site by the author, has been advised by an Armani underwear David Beckham to stay put at United, saying United is the best place for said mystery player.

End of report. The author is not open for any comment on mystery player.

Ronaldo Resolution, Benzema, Rio Ferdinand

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 10:00

All papers are awash with news that Ronaldo is going to decide his future in about ‘two days’. There’s no need for me to provide a link; just head off to any decent football website and you will see the report.

Now let me tell you this: I have resolved to steer clear of Ronaldo speculation for the rest of this week. In the sense that I would only report news if there are any, but will not add any more of my opinions on whether Ronaldo must stay or not. I’ve had enough of things right now, and I am certain that nothing will get resolved until the Euro’s get over.

Of course, those of you interested in speculating, be my guest but also be prepared for a long month of doing that. Because, regardless of Ronaldo’s imminent decison over the next couple of days, he will still be linked to Madrid till July.

Raging Rooney, Real ‘Defeated’ [for Now] and the Holy Trinity

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 10:00

Does it concern you that our own Pele seems to lose it once in a while? Well, it scares the hell out of cabbage man Capello*. Actually Wayne Rooney has been well behaved considering his history. But Capello seems to fear for his England team mates because of the way he lunges into tackles. It’s always good to see a top manager talk sense into one of our star players, although it must be unnerving for Rooney to be listening to what is essentially a cabbage [for all 'its' merits].

Oh, and England beat the United States a couple of days ago in a snore fest. Actually it wasn’t the game that was unbearable to watch. But it was watching John Terry big up his big-match credentials in his post match that was a little hard to stomach, not to mention, the collective efforts of the whole media machine to whip up John Terry’s efforts into a frenzy. “He should courage to bounch back“, “A true fighter“, “I am a big game player“. Give me a fucking break!

That said, I don’t know why I even talked about the England-USA game on a United blog.

Farewell Gerard, Selfish Rooney, EVDS to Play Till 40?

Tag: Daily RoundupRed Ranter @ 10:10

Welcome back. We’re officially done with the 07/08 season and we’ll tread no man’s land for the next couple of months.

Thankfully, the Euros will provide for some distraction from the ennui that will surely descend on the summer. People will die — not from the heat, but from frantically refreshing news websites looking for the latest breaking news on transfers.
