Man Utd v Bolton: Preview

A quiet few days later, United return to a Premier League game that’s at home. The start has been gruelling for us with the injuries and the fixture list, among a few reasons, but if Fergie’s prophecy — that we’ll be fine by October — is to ring true, today would be a game we should be looking to stamp our authority.

Bolton haven’t been particularly stellar, and at home one should expect us to knock them over easily. The question, though, is how.

Chelsea v Man Utd: Preview

The magnitude of the situation has been spelled out by pundits and fans alike. SAF recognises the importance of not falling nine points behind Chelsea. Win today and we’ll be three points behind with a game in hand. Lose and we’ll be — you guessed it — nine points behind; not a situation one might want to be in so early.

Man Utd v Villarreal: Preview

We return to Old Trafford after the misadventure in Anfield to meet the Yellow Submarines (as they are called) with several points to prove. It’s a strange thing — having to prove points that is — when we are the defending English and European champions.

But let that not mask the fact that whilst we still are a very good side, there are still quite a few concerns that need to be addressed.

Liverpool v Manchester United: Preview

At long last we get to some real footballing action. United travel to Anfield with a rather good record in recent times.

In pre-match trash talk, the Spanish waiter had a little dig at our club’s spending although, for some reason, it seems to escape his attention that he himself has spent about £200m since his arrival at Anfield. He has a Champions’ League medal to show for all that (with a squad predominantly inherited from Houllier).

Preview: Man Utd v Zenit St. Petersburg

Today is 07/08 season hangover day. A day where we play a game to prove we are better than a team that didn’t qualify for the Champions’ League. To be honest, I don’t get the point of a Super Cup. It’s not really super, whether we win it or lose it. Playing the UEFA Cup winners could be tricky, but it’s more like a glorified version of the Community Shield — a curtain raiser to the footballing calendar in Europe.

But, I do want us to win this one. The Super Cup doesn’t come every day, so I’d gladly take this, as well as the World Club Championship later this year.

Preview: Portsmouth v Man Utd

It’s bank holiday Monday as United travel to Fratton Park in what has proven to be a tricky encounter in recent times. Last season Paul Scholes’ opener was cancelled out by Benjani’s equaliser giving us a 1-1 draw. It was one of the wretched few games that kick started, what turned out to be, a rather famous season.

Some NOTW Nonsense + Community Shield Preview

We return to some real footballing action today with the Community Shield against Portsmouth — although pseudo-real could be a better word as the real action begins next week. But before we move on to the preview of today’s game a brief word on some early morning bollocks.

Man Utd v Chelsea: Preview

First of all, for all those who are crapping in their pants, watch the pre-match press conference with Fergie, Wes and Rio.

If that doesn’t help, then go find a toilet.

Wigan Athletic v Man Utd: Preview

It all boils down to today. All year’s work being reduced to a cup final. Ideally, we should have never let it come to this. But, as they say, given this situation at the start of the season — a final game against Wigan and a Champions’ League final — we’d have gladly taken it. So win the title today, and it would give the players a big boost going into the Champions’ League final. Lose it, and it will be a long ten days in the run up to the Champions’ League. I suspect, that conceding the Premier League title would rankle in the minds of the players more than conceding the CL simply because we have been the most free scoring team in the league and should be beating a side like Wigan almost always.

Two games left. Two wins, and the title will be ours.

But again, as they say, it’s one game at a time.
