Manchester United have declared their pre-season fixture list for the 07/08 season.
The fixtures can be seen as having two stages as we have seen for the past season. The first will be the unavoidable outside-Europe commitments that the club will have to fulfill. They will undertake the grueling tour far east this time and even if the tour might be tiring, it brings in the moolah.

There are times when I wish I could literally throw a boot in Mr. Mourinho’s face if it would wipe the smirk off his face. Ah… the joy, the great serene satisfaction…I can almost taste it.
It has been more than a week since our narrow loss at the Wembley. Too bad, I’d have said, with a shrug and a sigh on any other day, but after brooding over that final for a week, I still can’t digest it.

It’s been a couple of days now since the final and despite attempting to stay away from as much post match reaction as possible i havent been able to escape the usual finger pointing and “what if” statements that follow a bad result. What if Giggs’ goal was given? and who actually was the better side? In truth both sides were poor and neither really deserved it but i couldnt help but come away feeling let down, not by the players but by Fergie…
He has done a cracking job in winning the premiership back this season and i can’t wait to see this team progress under his management over the next few years but i can’t help but wave that finger of blame in his direction for Saturdays result. I just think that he bottled it!

Fuck.
That hurt.
Robben couldn’t do it, Joe Cole couldn’t do it, Rooney and Ronaldo couldn’t do it. Even Giggs – the FA Cup hero – couldn’t do it.
Ok, so maybe Giggsy got the goal but if the linesman and the ref don’t see it (and Cech sure as hell wasn’t going to tell them), it doesn’t count. That sucks, but what sucks more is that after Smith’s tackle on Mikel we switched off for a bit and Chelsea got the goal by moving quickly off the free kick.
A moment of inspiration from Drogba, sheer class by Lampard and then the harder-than-steel determination to finish it off – Drogba may not be the best finisher but this season he’s got them when it counted the most and he made it count again this time.

I’ve already done the official Chelsea – United final preview, but that page’s a bit cluttered and I wanted to be more biased about it, so here’s my unofficial, fkn biased, preview.
I see two scenarios – one says that United will be embarrassed, and the ghosts of 29th April 2006 (Stamford Bridge) will come back to haunt us. With Vidic and Carrick that seems unlikely but Joe Cole and Drogba cannot be discounted, and I feel that Joe Cole is a frighteningly good player who hasn’t had the team or the stage (yet) to bring out the best from him consistently (except last season at Chelsea).
He can still improve, so yes, I’m a tad bit worried about him.

Not all United players had their hearts in the game, and from the team selection (and the substitutions, neither did Ferguson) and we paid the price for that in terms of a home defeat and a second double defeat of the season (the other team being Arsenal).

United play the Hammers in a game that has greater significance for the players in claret and blue, although that is unlikely to be a reason for our manager to let the players relax. He has stated clearly that he wouldn’t want to show disrespect for the other teams involved in a relegation scrap and treat this game like a title decider, well almost (I added the title decider bit).

It ended 0-0, it was a pre-meditated slap across Chelsea’s face (figuratively speaking, of course) and despite a few shaky moments in the last 15 minutes, United pulled it off.
Not much to say about the game, except that if you didn’t watch it, you needn’t have bothered.
However, there still is plenty to talk about in terms of what the ref did wrong, what the match meant for Chelsea, for United and for the FA Cup final, and what United can take away from this game.

Thanks to the draw at the Emirates, we have the title in our hands, and the only thing of importance in this game would be the ‘Guard of Honor’ we can expect from Terry and co. Of course the people likely to be present at the game to receive would be the likes of Dong and Richardson among others. So there you go.
