Real Cough Up Money for Wheinze | Benitez Moans and Whines

Another bit of good news filtered down to the papers all over town yesterday. Real Madrid, now officially known as UUPOAH (Unhappy United Players’ Old Age Home), have come and done United a big, big favour: they bought Heinze, and, wait for it… for £8 million!

Now this, I must say, made me feel pleasantly surprised. Real Madrid have always underpaid for our players. Beckham was a snip at £25 million - a sum they were reported to have recovered in three months! Ruud once again was bought for a ridiculously low fee, given his goal return, and the fee paid by Chelsea for Shevchenko.

Heinze loses arbitration for Liverpool move, what’s next for him and United?

As you must know by now, Gabriel Heinze has lost his bid to join Liverpool (more over at Soccerlens).

It puts him in a very difficult situation now as there’s barely a chance for him to win the appeal for his Liverpool move, and there is little time left to negotiate a move elsewhere.

Many Manchester United fans have turned on Heinze during this whole process (not surprisingly), and would be glad to see his back. While that’s an emotional response and not necessarily the best thing for the team (Heinze is our best left-back), it’s a valid concern that his actions (and especially the fact that he wanted to go to Liverpool of all teams) will have driven a wedge between him and the other players and apart from the stick he will get from the fans, there’s little doubt that he’ll definitely remain 2nd or 3rd choice now.

So what to do?

Decision To Be Made On Heinze… Today!

Gabriel HeinzeAs most of you will know while one Argentinean has recently entered Old Trafford another seems very likely to be leaving soon. A decision will be made on the future of ‘Fans Favourite of the 05/06 season’ Gabby Heinze later today, though his court case hearing was yesterday. He presented his case to a 3-man team with both Sir Alex and Carlos present.

After all we have done for him, stood by him during his injury, the greedy git wants a move to Loserpool! If he gets his way we will be forced into accepting an offer from Liverpool.

I think fans opinions are mixed with some saying we should sell him to Liverpool and some totally against the decision, I personally wouldn’t mind the move IF we don’t get another offer for him but Sir Alex doesn’t seem to keen.

So what do you guys think now that D-day is here, and also feel free to post your opinions on the decision which will come later on today.

Do We Need a New Forward?

Manchester United were, during the summer, said to be a team with endless attacking options. However an injury to our best striker Wayne Rooney (expected to keep him out of action for at least two months) and also our best player of late, Ronaldo, receiving a 3 match suspension for an attempted head butt has left our attacking options looking a bit slim. It has also been brought to my attention that Ryan Giggs has not been performing to his best and there have been calls by many supporters to drop him, though I doubt 2 poor performances will prompt SAF to not play him against City. Also Scholes hasn’t been himself either lately. Oh, and where are Owen Hargreaves and Anderson??? I mean honestly, they have been included in both squads that played against Reading and Portsmouth but neither even made the bench!!!

United Players out of Favour With Supporters

You SuckQuite recently I’ve been seeing (not just on this site) a few United players being - how can I put it? - verbally abused (okay, maybe not to that extent!) but I thought I’d just put them all together, give u guys some info on them and possibly why they have been ’picked on’ and the case, in my opinion, for or against them - and also a place where u can either ‘big up’ or ‘put down’ a player u either like or dislike.

So let’s get on with it.

Who should succeed Neville as captain?

Ryan Giggs is the usual deputy, but with both him, Gary and EVDS getting older there’s a gap opening up at the top of the United hierarchy.

Simply put, we need a new captain - and more importantly, we need to groom this new captain to make sure he’s ready to take over the mantle next season, or whenever Nev and Giggsy retire, and to fill in when those two are out through injury.

There are a few requirements:

Do you like Rio Ferdinand?

I read somewhere this morning that Rio Ferdinand was unpopular with Manchester United fans.

Now I don’t pretend to speak for all fans (and I regularly disagree with a majority of red devils) but I’d say that that as a player Rio is one of the more respected members of Manchester United.

Fellow fans may disagree, so I’d like to put these questions out to you guys:

1) Do you like Rio Ferdinand?

2) Do you think Rio Ferdinand is popular amongst Man Utd fans?

Let me know what you guys think.

Goodbye Smith, Welcome Tevez

Alan Smith I have been tied up with a lot of work these days. So apologies for not covering the Inter-United game. Now that, plenty has been said and discussed about the game, not to mention our ever active comment threads, I will let it lie for the moment. Although, there certainly were some points worth dwelling on, which I will discuss in a separate post.

Anyway, moving on, this has been an eventful week, and a fan couldn’t have asked for more mixed feelings than he might be feeling now. First we have Rossi’s transfer and then Smith’s. Just when one thought we were going nuts selling strikers that we hear about the imminent transfer of Tevez. Yes, this is 99.999% certain!

(I think.)
