Photo: Manchester United star duo spotted in training prior to Leicester clash

Manchester United maanger Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Chris Smalling and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are fit to face Leicester City in Sunday’s Community Shield fixture at Wembley.

The centre-half Smalling and centre-back cum defensive midfielder Fosu-Mensah were both snapped with the senior squad at the Aon Training Complex, today morning, after missing out the pre-season matches against Galatasaray  and Everton.

Though Smalling was not at the best of his elements in the FA Cup final, the English-man is a vital cog in the wheel for United, as even in the pre-season games, he and a decent right-back were utterly missed. Fosu-Mensah has also donned full ground now.

“They are fine now,” Mourinho told MUTV. “They have recovered and they are training with the group as normal, so they are fine. Everybody needs minutes – that is the reality. We had so little time to play and Smalling is a player who has not even played one minute, but it is a little bit the same for everyone.”

Putting more light on the players’ attitude and approach in training, Mourinho said: “The reality is that they are working magnificently well, they are working really hard and I am really confident for the season because of the attitude they have. Of course we need time but in training they use every minute they have on the pitch to try to improve and adapt to new ideas. I couldn’t be more pleased.”

Though the ”Special one” does not have any more significant injury in his squad, the manager seems to get a bit of crack on his forehead in a bid to improve the match fitness of his players, who joined late in training, owing to their  international commitments this summer, like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Matteo Darmian, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial, who joined first team training in the last week of July.

“One thing is to start five weeks ago like some of them and another thing is to start one week ago, it is completely different. But with the way we work we try to bring them on as fast as we can. I won’t say to top form but to a level where they are ready to compete,” United manager explained.

“That is the reality of modern football, especially when you are a team with a lot of players that go to the Euros and the Copa America. They come later, they don’t have enough holiday and we have to make them ready for the competition in a short period of time.”

“It is hard but this is what we have and complaining or crying is not the way to do it. The way to do is to work hard, like they are doing all the time.”

Manchester United star thanks fans and Jose Mourinho

Wayne Rooney 2014

The Wayne Rooney testimonial at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Everton was played out to a nil-nil draw but the outstanding Rooney Mosaic, the Guard of Honour and the applause for Rooney depicted what the forward means to the club for last 12 years.

After match, Rooney thanked everyone for their support. The English veteran said to MUTV:”Thank you so much for your support. Hopefully there will be some more trophies to come.”

“I’d like to say to the Manchester United fans, I’ve had great success and hopefully there’s more to come.”

Manager Jose Mourinho payed homage to Rooney, talking to MUTV, the gaffer said: “He is my man, I think the best is yet to come. I see a guy who has huge motivation. I can say as everybody knows it – I tried to buy him. I always wanted him and finally I have him.”

The mercurial 34-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic poured his heart out, too. The Swedish striker said on Rooney: “Players come & go. Top players are coming & going but Rooney is still staying. I’m absolutely happy to be one of the guys beside Rooney. I think he’s had a fantastic career.”

“I said many years ago the perfect partner for a striker is Rooney. He works not only for himself but for the striker & the team.”

Ex-United manager David Moyes, current England manager Sam Allardyce and Sir Alex Ferguson were in attendance too. The former Everton manager had some nice words to say on Rooney.

After 12 seasons of world class performances, Rooney deserves every bit of praise coming his way. Many would not care how dull the match was, the testimonial was about celebrating the England international and his fund raising for his selected charitable funds.

Bayern new star confirms Manchester United approach, says it was too late

Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson talked to him about United’s managerial job after his retirement, but it was ”too late”.

Ferguson stepped down from his post as the Red Devils manager after he guided United to their 20th league title in May 2013. The Scot was looking for candidates to replace him and the former Chelsea manager was considered for the post.

However, Ancelotti had already decided to join Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain. On the other hand, United had appointed David Moyes as Ferguson’s successor, who was sacked just 10 months into his job at Old Trafford.

“After he retired in 2013 he spoke to me, but I had already given my word to go to Real Madrid Manchester United were too late. But otherwise I would have been interested in going to Old Trafford,” Ancelotti told FourFourTwo.

Ancelotti, who returned to management after a year without a job replaced Pep Guardiola at Bayern. He is the new star at the Allianz Arena and the Bundesliga outfit will be hoping he can help them win the Champions League.

On asked, whether he would consider a job in England in future, the ex-Real Madrid boss said:”At this moment I would prefer to have a club job, but maybe in the future. England? Why not? I would have no problem doing that.”

Recently, Bastian Schweinsteiger has been heavily linked with a return to Bayern, a year after he left them to join United. However, Ancelotti has brushed off all these rumours.

“I don’t have this news! If? In football… there is no if. Schweinsteiger is not in our idea. He was a fantastic player for Bayern and a fantastic player for football in general but I don’t think it’s the time for him to come back to Munich,” the Italian explained.

Manchester United manager talks about Pogba, Smalling injury update

Paul Pogba

The drawn out nature of Juventus and France  midfielder Paul Pogba is sending media in a tizzy so much so that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was asked questions about the midfielder after Wayne Rooney’s testimonial match.

United have already signed the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly in this window.

When asked on Pogba, Mourinho said‘I don’t want to speak about Paul because he’s a Juventus player, and I don’t like other managers to speak about my players, and I don’t speak about their players. We are going to sign one more player, that’s for sure.”

”But the reality is that we are going to sign one more player, as you know the market closes on August 31, so we have plenty of time to do that, but obviously I’d like to do it before the season starts.”

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are on the verge of announcing an agreement to sign Pogba  after already  having zeroed in on a fee with Juventus and there is optimism  from United’s side that the announcement might happen before the Community Shield clash against Leicester  City on Sunday.

The report claims the Red Devils want to announce the deal before Pogba undergoes a medical, signs a contract with the the Old Trafford club and the formalities are concluded.

Juventus have already decided to give the much coveted number 10 jersey of Pogba to Dybala. To fuel the fire, Adidas stores in Paris are already selling the Juventus #10 jersey with Dybala on the back.  But, on Juventus site and Pogba still listed as No 10 and Dybala 21. So, it is dubious.

In another good news, according to Physio Room, Chris Smalling is expected to be available for Community Shield match against Leicester, after his ankle injury lay-off. Mourinho confirmed the England international picked up a minor injury and that saw the central defender miss out on the friendly fixtures against Galatasaray and Everton.

Smalling will miss the Premier League opener against AFC Bournemouth for the red card he received in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace last season.

Brazil football fans are more excited with their young Olympic team than with the squad playing now at Copa America Centenario in the United States. Manchester United have been beaten by Manchester City in the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus. The Citizens confirmed the capture of the Palmerias star on August 3, Wednesday.

The Brazil international, who was a initially part of the national squad for the 2016 Copa America Centenario in the United States. However, an issue with his passport forced him to withdraw from the squad.

Jesus, who was wanted by the Red Devils as the Brazilian publication Globoesporte reported that United were ready to pay a fee of €38 million. However, the 19-year-old has decided against joining Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford in favour of playing under his City counterpart Pep Guardiola.

Wayne Rooney and his son laughs at Manchester United player during Everton clash

kai 2

Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney’s testimonial match against his old club Everton ended in a rather boring goalless draw, but the match witnessed a moment of pure comedy gold when Rooney and his son Kai laughed at Memphis Depay, as the young dutch winger’s ambitious overhead kick went absolutely gas.

Depay’s hilarious bicycle kick attempt on a cross had Rooney and his little man giggling, as the 22 year old tried something out of the box but zero anticipation and vision saw that going  miles over his head, he missed the ball and ended up ludicrously on the Old Trafford turf.

Ironically, Depay posted Rooney tribute in his Instagram page with a caption, “Still that same boy. Honoured to be your team mate. “

Was it the last match in a United shirt for players like Depay and Rojo? Time will tell but there is no denying that the Depay slapstick offered ”comic relief” in the dull draw, where both team failed to make much chances.

Manchester United edging closer towards completing fourth summer signing

Paul Pogba

Spanish newspaper AS has gone on to the extent of claiming that Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has agreed a world-record move to rejoin Manchester United.

According to the outlet, the Red Devils’ executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and manager José Mourinho are hopeful that the French midfielder will complete his €120 million to Old Trafford, where he will sign a five-year deal.

While Pogba will earn around  €20 million a year as wage, his agent Mino Riola is also set to pocket a handsome figure of around €24 million. Read Madrid were also interested in the France international, but going by the reports of Spanish outlets, Zinedine Zidane was not ready to pay such astronomical transfer fee.

Another factor might have been instrumental in Pogba’s decision to choose United, that is, according to new tax rules of Spain, the player would have to pay 54% of his earnings as tax, had he gone to the Spanish club like Real.

The inclusion of Pogba would certainly bolster United squad for the new season. Pogba has the physicality, height, strength, agility, balance, power and synergistic movements to succeed in the Premier League. His dribbling skills can’t be questioned.

Instead of penetrative dribbles, the 23-year-old performs technical quick link-up play higher up the pitch and he showboats his best dribbling from deeper areas. He dribbles to shield the ball, to keep possession and to bring his teammates into play.

Pogba’s acceleration, deceleration, body feints and receiving moves have bamboozled many defenders and deep lying midfielders. He has a decent technique to back his passing; back-heel passes, outside of the boot passes- you name it and the entity is there in Pogba’s book. Juventus star’s vision and diagonal play making can make difference in the Premier League and for United.
