Tensions were high before the game and the anticipation epic, but what transpired at Eastlands was a dour affair with barely any excitement or any decent strikes on goal.
United though did have the better of the game and managed a measly seven attempts at goal all night, with four of them on target. The pick was of course Dimitar Berbatov’s scissor-kick, though that went straight at Joe Hart in the City goal.
One positive to come out of the match at least is that United have extended their unbeaten run to twelve matches.

Ji-Sung Park continued his rich reign of scoring form against Wolves on Saturday but this time he left it late, very late in fact. Manchester United had to wait until the 93rd minute for Park’s winner against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.

Fergie always says that ten points in the Champions League group stage is the veritable magic number for advancement to the next round, and with two games to spare, United have reached that target after running riot in the second half in Turkey.

Another victory under out belts that makes it three in a row. Yesterday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur was arguably the biggest test we have faced so far this season. A team on a high and a team with plenty of attacking talent but thanks to Captain Nemanja Vidic and a controversial Nani clincher the three points are ours taking us level with Arsenal on 20 points but still five behind leaders Chelsea.

If you need to be caught up, the last several days can be summed up in the following sentences:
My, what a week!
Wayne Rooney is a) money-hungry, b) a sniveling Scouser, c) a traitor, d) absolutely right, depending on who you ask.
We had a match yesterday?!
We won away from home in the Premier League?! WOOHOO!
Javier Hernandez = Manchester United legend.
In the craziness of all the Rooney wants to leave/is injured/says he wants to leave/signs a new contract, one could be forgiven if they happened to forget that there was a match yesterday, and an important one at that.

Sincerest apologies for another late-ish match review, but due to internet connectivity issues yesterday, I was out of commission.
It appears that in the time I was away, there’ve been major developments (perhaps for the positive, who knows?) in the Wayne Rooney saga, which I’ll give my thoughts on separately. I do hope that this is the end of it for now and for a while, until he either scores enough goals or gets sold for enough money.
But I digress.
Wednesday’s win over Bursaspor was unspectacular in every sense of the word, save for another Nani moment. It was all we needed, but it goes without saying that the gulf between need and want is often enough as wide as the one between performance and result can be.
So then, what of the performance and result against our Turkish opponents?

I have long come to grips with the fact that, for better or worse, I’m an eternal optimist.
It could be that I’m just a glutton for punishment, but it’s never hard for me to find something to laugh about or fill the glass halfway with.
And with that, there are a handful of positives to take from Saturday.

After days of digesting another unpalatable, inept and cowardly performance against Sunderland, with the team being out played, outfought and generally outdone, what concerned me more were the post match comments made by Knight of the Realm, Sir Alex Ferguson.
For those who haven’t seen or heard the post match interview, here is what the great man said:

Watching several of Manchester United’s matches thus far this season has made for no shortage of excitement and entertainment, perhaps even for the neutral viewers out there.
That being said, for all of the goals, whether early, late, ordinary, amazing, or even funny, there’s been no shortage of frustration for United fans, especially with the lack of defense, and more importantly, wins, when United have ventured away from Old Trafford.
So then, it’s only natural that United’s first noteworthy away win of the season comes in a match and through a performance that was markedly different than what we’ve been seeing for the most part.

For the sake of being able to give the most rational opinion (ha!) post-Bolton, I opted to wait until today to hammer out a match report of sorts.
At first glance, the match could be summed up with two sentences:
1) What the [censorin' censors], another away draw? Seriously? Seriously.
2) Okay, so where’s our defense being hidden, and are the Glazers holding back on the ransom check to free it?
