Tottenham 1-1 Man Utd: Tevez Rescues Point

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 10:15

Let’s get this straight: United didn’t deserve the point.

One may argue about United throwing everything at Spurs, towards the end, but then it is only natural to do that when you are behind by a goal.

Man Utd 2-0 Portsmouth: Ronarrific!

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 10:15

Pardon the headline. I have no excuses, really.

United put on another excellent display to blow away Pompey and return to the summit of the Premier League, albeit on goal difference. To be accurate though, one would have to say that it was a splendid first half display followed by a little sedate second half.

United 3-1 Spurs: Ronaldo Brace Sees United Through

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 10:35

It has become impossible for us to write match reports of United victories without a mention of a Ronaldo goal. In fact he has been so remarkably prolific that it led to Sir Alex himself recently admitting that he never saw his goal scoring potential when he initially bought him; his purchase was as a pure winger.

But as he approaches Best’s tally of 32 goals in a season for a winger — he reached the 25 goal mark yesterday — comparisons with the legendary winger will surely resurface, and that too for good reason.

Reading 0-2 United: Rooney, Ronaldo Keep United Top

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 10:00

Rooney and Ronaldo continue to underline their importance to our team. No amounts of overtures from Real or Barcelona can really be enough to tempt our prized asset away from our club. It just is not worth it. Even an injection of a 100 million pounds for each player will not do justice.

Aston Villa 0-2 Manchester United: Ronaldo and Rooney complete a late win

Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney (latching on to a rebound from a Ronaldo shot at goal) in the last 10 minutes saw Manchester United win their 3rd FA Cup tie against Aston Villa.

United Labour Through But Fergie Makes the Most Outrageous Remarks

It might be a little too late for a match report, so it wouldn’t be one as such.

United didn’t produce a performance to be necessarily proud of in beating Birmingham but started 2008 on a winning note. While the first half and initial periods in the second saw us practically toying with Alex McLeish’s men, the latter part of the game saw us trying our best to repeat the horror show at West Ham. We suddenly looked content giving the ball away and inviting the opposition on to our half. It was a strange performance; something you don’t associate with United at home.

Hammers Beat United As Champions Squander The Advantage

West Ham 2-1 Man Utd

There are days when you will have to hand it to the opposition. As much as I hate to say it, I would be forced to concede that West Ham were the better team yesterday. They outplayed, out scored, out ran and outnumbered (in midfield) us right through the game. And yes, they had that extra intensity to go on and win the game.

It is fairly simple (and sometimes, even boring) writing a match report following a win; you go through the usual format of reportage, saying how good such and such player was. Writing a report after a defeat is a far more enlightening experience, although it must be said that it is extremely hard to get motivated and get to the writing part in the first place.

So here we go with the report.

United Stroll Past Sunderland And Go Clear At The Top

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 14:49

Yesterday was not a pretty sight. Not from Reds’ legend Roy Keane’s perspective that is. His side were simply no match for United’s superiority. It was so easy that it was cruel. I’ve seen Korean sides on our far-east pre-season tours show more resistance. After yesterday, you’d have to feel for Roy Keane and his side; and hope, for his sake, that he manages to keep them up.

Our sympathies for Keano aside, it was a superb performance from a United side that had quite a few changes to the composition of its starting XI.

Ronaldo to the Rescue… Again

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 12:33

That boy Ronaldo showed nerves of steel to send United up, and within a point of leaders Arsenal. For our most fortuitous of wins, we have to thank the Portuguese lad - and Steven Pienaar’s moment of indiscretion - as a resolute Everton team made a result look highly unlikely, till that point.

We dominated possession and had loads of chances, but it looked like one of those days, where even if one were to be presented with a mile wide goal one would miss. For all the possession, we never really looked like scoring.

Tevez Nets One As Another False Dawn Envelopes Anfield

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 10:15

Liverpool 0-1 Man Utd

United continue their dominance over Liverpool as another 1-0 win pushed the ‘dippers further away from the title race. A joyful day for us reds, which would have been better had it not been for some toothless display from Chelsea, it was — in the words of Fergie — “a typical encounter” against our traditional rivals. But it was also a display that brought another facet of our team to the fore.
