Brum 0-1 Reds: Another Scrappy One-Nil Win

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 10:10

Sorry to burst expectant readers’, well, expectations. But I couldn’t watch the game. I had some frustratingly pressing matter to attend to during that time and I was, well, frustrated as hell to not be watching the game. Although, upon hearing what some of my mates had to say about the game, the comments on the last post and some other sites I thought I might have been equally frustrated watching the game.

Oh well. I’ll still try to piece up something based on observations, and leave the stage to you, dear readers, to give your more informed observations.

Fergie Ensures United’s Kids Get Knocked Out

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 10:15

A belated post. But the time that has passed hasn’t tempered the feelings I’ve had, during and immediately after the match, in the slightest bit. There are many reasons really.

I have read quite a few opinions around the place. James Ryddel of A Kick in the Grass thinks it is a good thing we got knocked out — especially for disgruntled season ticket holders supposedly wilting under the weight of having to pay for Carling Cup games. Nevertheless, the turnout - something nearing 63,000 - never actually betrayed such concerns.

Scott at the RoM, couldn’t care less about the loss.

So I guess it’s my turn to share a bit of my exalted levels of punditry. So here goes.

Man Utd 2-0 Chelsea: Reds Rub It In

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 11:00

It wasn’t a vintage United performance. Not in anyone’s wildest dreams. However, it was a game where we controlled things completely. There were moments where it looked like we were getting our stride back. But for most part, we drifted to familiar territory that we’ve seen this season. Nevertheless, the performance was much better than what we’ve seen over the past few wins and it looks like we might actually shift several notches over the coming weeks.

Sporting Lisbon 0-1 Man Utd: Local Boy Scores

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 10:15

United started their 07/08 Champions’ League campaign with a 1-0 win that was more important — considering that it was played away from home against a tricky opposition — than enthralling. At the moment, 1-0 wins are becoming the forte of the 2007 edition of Manchester United — something we talked about at length the other day.

While what we saw wasn’t too pretty, there were some positives to take home, and we’ll dwell on those, apart from discussing the obvious sore points.

United Have Been A Cross Between Chelsea and Arsenal (Of Last Season)

Sad to say this, really. Really sad. But there is no escaping the fact that we have been playing like that.

Don’t get me wrong though. Results wise, it’s been good for us. But it certainly is not good for the heart, over the long run. Our wins over the past three games have been one-nils — very Chelsea-like as far as digging deep and snatching wins, while not playing in top gear. But that is not to take away the performance in terms of dominating possession and making one pass too many in trying to craft an opening — something we’ve seen to be associated with Arsenal over the past couple of seasons.

Reds 1-0 Sunderland: The Late Late Match Report

For those interested, MOTD highlights is up on the stats page.

I am sure certain sections of regulars to this site might have been left wondering what really is up with the lazy author of this site. Admittedly there was a little slacking off from your’s truly. After all, waking up late, groggy-eyed, on a Sunday morning - when the lethargy was only mildly nudged out of the system while watching Villa beat Chelsea - should be enough cause for feeling generally happy through the rest of the day and forgetting one’s blogging commitments.

Anyhow, apologies. Here’s getting back to business…

Reds 1-0 Spurs: Reds Scrape By, Brilliant Result

Manchester United Crest  Tottenham Hotspur Club Crest

Even during United’s peak, last season, when they were brushing teams aside for fun, there were moments where one might have been perfectly justified in thinking if the team was actually capable of sustaining the form till the final lap. Those doubts weren’t put to rest by 4-0 defeats to Bolton or the opening day Fulham game. True, those games gave us a euphoric sense of pride, seeing our team crush opponents in such style. But there have been games, when, unconvincingly, the team managed to deliver a result that gave us a sense of satisfaction that more than made up for the obvious shortcomings. The 1-0 win against Liverpool was a case in point. So was the other Fulham game where Ronaldo’s goal sealed a late win.

Yesterday’s game against Spurs can neither be compared to the swashbuckling, Bolton-thrashing United, nor the one that beat the dippers at the death. Nor did it give us satisfaction. What it did give us, however, was a long overdue sense of relief.

Pompey 1-1 Reds: So, Is It Time to Panic?

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 4:33

Don’t PanicI suffered a severe writer’s block while starting to write this post. That probably explains why I started writing this post mentioning my writer’s block. For me it was bad enough when I couldn’t get any of the streams to work. Looking at, and furiously refreshing my browser, for the text commentary on Sky/Soccernet and some forums made me think up new insults to hurl at the darned pirates who couldn’t get a United stream working. I discovered TV Ants way too late to bother turning it up. Hopefully the weekend would be better, stream-wise at least.

FC Seoul 0-4 Manchester United: First Half Blitz

Tag: Match ReportsRed Ranter @ 10:10

The crowds came to watch Rooney, Ronaldo and - to some extent, Park - in action and got exactly that. It was a game that was definitely - what the commerce department would term - a commercial success, as fans turned up in hordes. Thankfully I got to watch the game, after all. In fact, it was good that I didn’t miss the first half.

Here are my notes on the game.
