The finale of Manchester United’s tour of the U.S. kicks off in a few short minutes, and while it goes down as only a preseason friendly, it’s not a stretch to say that tonight’s clash against Barcelona will serve as a good barometer for where United are heading into the new season.

5/19/2001.
That was the last time that Tottenham were able to experience the joys of victory against Manchester United. For what it’s worth though, Spurs’ 3-1 win at White Hart Lane on the final day of the 2000/01 season was all but a meaningless match for United, who finished the campaign ten points clear of Arsenal to capture a third straight Premier League title.
Still, for the record books, an L is an L, but in the 19 league meetings, two FA Cup ties, and two Carling Cup encounters – including United’s win on penalties in the 2009 final at Wembley, it’s all W’s and D’s on United’s ledger against Tottenham. United’s 2-0 win at Old Trafford in October took their record to fifteen wins and four draws in those 19 league meetings, and on Sunday, they’ll be looking to make it 20 as they travel to North London to face Harry Redknapp’s ambitious side.

This is going up a little later today than I’d intended, but here’s a little Christmas present from me to all those who love a little Manchester United history.
With Steve Bruce and Sunderland set for a visit this weekend, I thought it’d be fitting to take a look back at one of the finest, if not the finest, moment at Old Trafford for Bruce during his long and successful career at United. Bruce joined from Norwich City in December 1987, and by the time he’d left the club following the 1995/96 season, he’d netted an impressive 51 goals in eight and a half seasons, including 19 in all competitions in the 1990/91 season.
Of those 51 goals, four came during United’s Cup Winners’ Cup run in the 1990/91 season, but even those might not match the importance of his dramatic, momentum-shifting double against Sheffield Wednesday in April 1993.

As rivalries go, the friction with Chelsea is a fairly recent addition to Manchester United’s list, but that hasn’t made it any less compelling, as there have been a number of high profile and engrossing encounters between the two sides in the recent past.
So as we play the Blues tomorrow, sit back, relax and enjoy some classic moments of triumph over Chelsea.

With the build-up to Monday’s games beginning to reach fever pitch we look back at some memorable matches between Manchester United and Arsenal.
Some would argue it has been a few years since Manchester United versus Arsenal meant so much. A rivalry that reached its heights during the early part of the decade has been reduced to something of a whimper recently, mainly due the the North London sides disappearance from the title race usually quite early in the season, but Monday’s game could well prove crucial come May 2011.

The last couple of weeks the fortunes of Manchester United’s reserve and academy sides have been very different. While the reserves have recently recorded wins over Wigan and Bolton, the academy has struggled, being thrashed by Wolves 4-0. But things look to be back on the up after wins in their latest fixtures.
Starting with the reserve side, the last match they played was at home to Wigan and was a match they triumphed 3-1 but the main story after this game revolved around one man… Bebe.

So apparently that big card that Fergie has up his sleeve is a ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ card., eh?
It would seem that way, after we yet again found ourselves in a precarious position with time not on our side, we yet again maneuvered our way out of potential disaster.
Early on, it was our uncanny ability to wriggle ourselves into sticky situations that caused us to drop points from winning positions.
We still haven’t solved that issue with being friendly with the goals in the second half, but it seems that we’ve found the great equalizer.
