I guess it makes financial sense for the Premier League. The UK market is saturated and the growing interest in football overseas and the "international" feel of the Premier League means that a few high profile matches could do wonders for increasing demand overseas for premier league football rights. And clubs claim to have a global fanbase but many of their fans are unable to see them play live in competitive games.

The real strain will be on the players. Clubs will need bigger squads and unless they see a good proportion of the money generated from the scheme they won't be able to afford the extra players without a drop in standards. Jet lag is a real problem and means players will need more recovery between games.

Besides the money issue, 39 games means that some teams will have to play a big 4 club three times, or the big four has to play between them another time. It creates an unfair situation, imagine that Man Utd has to play arsenal in the final match (a third tie) and Chelsea play a team like Derby. This could have a huge effect on the outcome of the league. That is one of my major problems with the proposal.

On the other hand being an Australian fan who buys his merchandise, subscribes to magazines and pay tv etc and in doing so has helped United transform into this global brand, should I not be rewarded with the possibility of Utd playing a real competitive match in my country? That is another part of the jigsaw. Yes the fans in Manchester who pay for their seats for the season are at the heart and soul of Utd, and have a right to feel like this is kick in the teeth. But if the Premiership wants to go global and have someone like myself paying top dollar for merchandise then they need to be prepared to reward us.

Just a couple of ideas about the situation.

Ohh and just so its known, Im against the whole proposal.

This is a case of trying to fix something thats not broken. The premier league is doing well, the best in the world. Why do this? This could fuck up the whole competitiveness of the premier league. What happens if one team plays in horrible conditions like soaring temperatures?and they lose.If they want teams to go abroad and play,it should be for no points. It shouldnt affect the home-away format.I think it comes from the owners, this idea.even the glazers.Thats the reason fergie didnt give his thoughts on it.He was waiting to hear what the men upstairs thought first. And then he would agree with them.
