The Louis Saha Question and United 6-0 Newcastle Goal Videos

Tag: Manchester United News @ 12:00 pm

A quick Sunday update, including goal highlights, the latest on Louis Saha, the truth about Red Ranter’s absence and more:

Manchester United thrashed Newcastle United 6-0, with all goals coming in the second half. The two clubs could not be more different – stability vs ridiculously twitchy-fingers, strong foundations vs no base at all, and most poignantly, United are the very model of success that Newcastle aspire to.

Thanks to Steve BruceAlex McLeish and Birmingham, United are now top of the table with a way-better goal-difference.

Louis Saha is NOT out for the rest of the season, as David Gill confirms. That doesn’t mean that he’ll play for us again this season, it just means that he’s out till…his next ‘slight knock’.

Danny Simpson had a decent run-out last night, hopefully he can keep improving. There’s a reason he was kept back you know, and that’s not because Neville was injured.

A few teams, including Tottenham, have had bids accepted for Lyon’s Fred. Anyone think this 6″1′, 24-year old Brazilian is good enough to play for a team like United?

In other news…Red Ranter has successfully eloped and will be celebrating his impromptu honeymoon at 38,000 feet. He should be back online tomorrow / tonight with an update, but I imagine he’ll be too tired to post :)

Here are goal highlights from last night’s game: Manchester United 6-0 Newcastle United goal videos

And finally, here’s a question for you guys: Who will buy Louis Saha?

Off you go then…

  • i think if we offered him to lets say portsmouth then maybe they would buy saha (with the AFC) and if we are looking for a striker we can use him in the deal.

  • We’d get max 4m for him though. So might as well keep him and buy someone in the summer

  • I think Lois will be bought by a French team, Bordeux, Lyon, Marseille, PSG.
P.S. Alx McLeish is th manager of Birmingham not Steve Bruce who is at Wigan.

  • he’s worth much more than that no.3.

  • Dan if he’s worth much more than that then he wouldn’t move to a championship/lower league team, since they wouldn’t spend more than 4m. I personally think Fred could be a decent buy for us, since he’s definitely a goalscorer, fast and good at heading, and he used to be a regular starter for Lyon until he got injured.

  • Problem with Fred is that he is not happy on the bench, so its debatable whether a move to us would appeal.

On Saha, I’m confident that if we are looking to sell we would get a buyer and a good price. He is good enough, that if you could get him fit and firing, he could propel a mid table team over the line for a European place or keep a relegation threatened club up. Of course his form and fitness is a concern but there are plenty of managers who would be willing to take the gamble IMO.

  • What I don’t get is why Tottenham are bidding for another striker.

  • Kurt: Ramos doesn’t seem to rate Bent and Defoe has been told he can go if he wants, so it makes sense that they’ll be back in the market.

  • when i say lower league i mean lower premier league teams.

evans is playing really well for s’land right now, if anybody can, take a look at him playing now against pompey.

  • “Thanks to Steve Bruce and Birmingham, United are now top of the table with a way-better goal-difference.”
    :-) I thought McLeish was Birmingham’s manager!
Under the circumstances, only Newcastle would buy Saha. Let’s wait until summer comes.

  • Peculiar that Ramos doesn’t rate either of them. Bent has been one of the top scorers in the Premier League for a few years, and Defoe is in my opinion the best super-sub in the league right now. Doesn’t make sense to me that he would sell two proven players to buy an unproven player who may not even be better. While I’m talking about Tottenham, do you think we would ever buy Bent? I know this is his first season at Tottenham, but he must be getting bored there. He’s rarely even on the bench. Maybe he’d be willing to come off of ours?

  • How about Benni McCarthy anyone? I think he is the ideal candidate, especially as our 3rd striker. The guy has an abudance of experience with various clubs such as Ajax, Celta Vigo, and Porto; has international experience with South Africa (including 2 World Cups); has played in both the UEFA Cup as well as the Champions League; and importantly, has proven he can be effective in the Premier League (18 goals in 06/07 – SECOND leading scorer) with a decent Blackburn side. This season, due to minor injuries as well as the simutaneous rise of Roque Santa Cruz, his playing time and therefore, opportunities to score have been somewhat limited. And, he just turned 30 in November. Considering these factors, his market value has dropped since the end of last season, which means we could probably get him for a good deal. At this point, I really don’t think he will cost more than 7 mill pounds (Blackburn bought him for 2.5 mill from Porto so it would still be looked upon as a healthy investment return on their part).

Looking at his stats, thus far he has scored 99 goals in 255 league games (38.8% ratio), 24 goals in 52 european games (46.2%), and 28 goals in 65 international games (43.1%). McCarthy is not particularly exceptional in any area, but he has all the attributes a striker needs – pace, ball control, accuracy, shot power, aerial ability, and strength. With a good overall skill set, a broad range of experience, a respectable goals to games ratio, probably a reasonable price tag, and at exactly 30 years old (neither too young or too old), I would say he is the perfect option as our 3rd striker for the near future. All the other candidates I’ve heard about are either too expensive, unproven in the EPL, or are disruptive to team ethics/morale. Let’s make a bid for Benedict McCarthy please.

  • i would like the hunter as a third striker… but thats personal preference… im just interested in whats gonna happen eventually

oh! lemme dredge up some comments from a douche bag from the ivory coast who said ronaldo isnt a machine and wouldnt match his form last season

doodad dogbar is the man in question, and he was right….. ronny isnt a machine who could match last season’s form… he is a spectacular superhuman footballer who managed to beat his last season’s form, put to shame any contenders and pretenders like dogbar.

haha here is to the man who is a 100M sprinter who creates a circus with his feet, cristiano ronaldo! booya!

1 more goal to match last season… anyone feel like backing up dogbar’s comments?

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • All hail “King Ronaldo”! He is the best player in the world, and if he continues his form this season I cant see why he shouldnt score more hat tricks for us this year. He was unlucky against Wigan, Blackburn, Dynamo and Fulham. He has been more clinical in front of goal in the last four weeks than ever! I hope he gets the golden boot in PL and CL, and wins both of them(plus FA cup) for us.

  • Just something about Ronaldo I noticed, this season from the start of December up until now he scored 10 goals, and last season over the christmas period he scored more than anyone, so it seems that this really is when he seems to hit form, which may be something do do with his superior physique to most other players in the league. What a player, but I think Rooney should be praised for his performance yesterday as well, because other than his poor finishing, he was everywhere for us and created chances all through the game. And also well done Michael Carrick, fantastic performance, especially in the first half.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Yeah how come none of the Carrick haters are posting comments saying that he is crap now? he has played fantastically in both of our biggest wins (Roma and yesterday)in the last 2 seasons and that is 2 games in a row that he has bossed midfield. He was also unlucky not to score yesterday.

I would love to see Saha leaving the team. Not because he isn’t a great footballer but because it’s meaningless to have him in our squad.Although he can control the ball, head it,shoot it and he’s got great pace and off the bal movement he CANNOT PLAY!He seems he ‘ll never play two games in a row in the starting eleven. We should buy the Defoes and the Berbas and the Benjemas…in JUNE of course…for now we should try to use somebody like anderson as a shadow striker…even giggs could do the same.We cannot find a more serious solution than this.Going in the market->that will be a disaster

    and by the way

    Red Ranter has successfully eloped

what does that mean “eloped” who’s the unlucky one who took the extreme steps anyways its getting a bit too personal but hey u started it:)

anyways things are looking good for United and beleive we can pull it off this season
regarding saha i feel some french side will mostly buy him but i feel he’s still hanging on for a season

and by the waychk this out
“An inspired Kieran Richardson scored twice to earn Sunderland a vital win in their fight against relegation.”

  • Dan: Bit biased against Carrick there. I would consider it a very impressive achievement that a lot of people I have spoken to and articles I have seen, gave serious consideration to making him the MOM in a game where Ronaldo scored a hat trick.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • JB i agree with you. Yeah d lad ronaldo scored a hat-trick, but carrick had an outstanding game. Only if he can provide it week in week out. We can rest Hargo for the european games in which we would really need his experience.

Again what can i say on ANDERSON. Pure gem in the midfield whoever he plays with.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • im not denying carrick had a great game, but he needs more consistency. and theirs no reason why he cant, he gets much more games than fletcher(and hargreaves lately) yet those 2 when they go on the field they ALWAYS have good games.

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Interesting comments.

But I must as the question:

Where the hell is Owen Hargreaves gone?

Is he the next Louis Saha?!

Like? Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Carrick offers you something taht Hargreaves doesn’t: vision. And with our offensive weapons, it’s something we need. Case in point, watch the first Rooney chance (where he should have scored) early in the match. Ball bobbles in the centre circle, Carrick realises he’s going to get tehre first, looks up, sees the run and then in one touch weights a ball perfectly for Rooney to be in on goal. His ability to do such things is only paralleled in Scholes.

However, if you put him under pressure he simply cannot perform. And teams that have realisd this simply pack the centre circle and don’t give him any time. The upside of that is that it frees up the wide men, the downside is that it makes Carrick look very ordinary. A bit like double teaming Ronaldo on the wing.

For me you put Carrick or Scholes into the team because it forces the other manager to either make them another focal point for defense (thereby removing an attacking midfielder, or pulling in a wide midfiedler) or if they don’t, either of those players will run the tempo of the game.

But he’s still got consistency issues, has poor acceleration and his heading is bleak for someone so tall. But don’t think he doesn’t have talent to be a top, top central midfielder. I can only imagine how good he’d be if he’d grown alongside Keano.

  • Why can’t we just have a testimonial for that lad NEVILLE, and know his career is over instead of hearing one bad news after d other. NEV please take a cue from OLE and just retire. You have been a great lad for us all the years.

  • carrick still needs to up the ante and not get bullied. i support carrick, but i do know when he is playing like crap. he had a good game in a match where everyone in a red shirt was playing well. so what didnt make much in his case for a defence

i believe carrick is the type to play consistently as he gains momentum. when he was a first choice midfielder… he shone, now when his rythem is disrupted. he cannot cope. andy, hargo, and fletcher even, they have the ability to perform whenever given the chance… carrick doesnt.. sadly

i am a big fan of carrick’s passes, everytime he laid one off last season… he never missed and always set the ball rolling for an attack on goal. he hasnt played well this season… no one can argue on that… and if you do, i doubt u are objective…

  • hey guys,

while everyone is worrying abt saha/his replacement…

im slightly worried abt tevez…he is currently on a 2 year loan with the club… any idea how much it will cost to make him permament?

liverpool are facing a lot of problems with mascherano… they might have to pay 17 mill…and there seems to be the possiblility that kia..the mercenary tht he is… will just sell him to the highest bidder.

if such a thing happens with tevez… we might be with the situation where we either have to pay around 25-30 million for him or lose him to some other club….that too just when we are all dreaming of rooney-tevez becoming yorke-cole!

anybody out there who can ease my fears?

  • GREAT NEWS- I just heard on the telly that a deal has been agreed between Ajax and United for Klaas Jan Huntelaar. He will arrive next wednesday to have a press conferance about his transfer. They said the fee is £14,3 mill. Great if true! Saw the Ajax game this weekend against AZ. Scored 2 goals and really helped building up attacks for his team mates to score four others. I hope the telly doesnt lie! :-)

  • I was watching Eurogoals on Eurosport, when they showed the highlights from Ajax vs AZ. When Huntelaar scored his second goal, the comentator said:
“When you look at his qualities as a striker, there is no wonder that he will leave for Manchester United for a fee worth around £14 mill. I would have bidden more if I was sir Alex Ferguson, but it looks like the old master has done it again! The transfer is done, but United may have to wait until the summer to see him play for them. If not, look out on wednesday!”
I am just writing what I heard. If hes wrong, I will be devestated. United need a third striker(I dont count Saha), and Huntelaar showed he is one of the worlds best strikers this season. Fuck the commentator if he lies. But since he was right about Anderson and Nani, I think he might know something. And to all shitheads that thinks I am just making this up, I tell you: I dont lie when it is about United!
