Although he is one component of a team oriented operation both with Zenit and Russia, he has never had shackles placed on him and he quite often has the freedom to do whatever he likes similar to Ronaldo at United. The problem with Russian's is the fact that very few of them have ever played outside of Russia and I think they suffer from culture shock and then because of this and their natural stubbornness they internalize and fail to perform. The talent is their but can they perform outside of their country? Valid concern and certainly a risk when you talk about any player from Russia. Arshavin seems like a player who has an ego and has aspirations and ambitions that go outside of Russia. That's the first sign that he may be able to adapt. He wants to go, he's not being forced to go by money or a team that no longer wants him. His skill level is also better than any Russian player I have seen since Igor Belanov in the late 80's. None of the Spartak players mentioned in the article can even hold a candle to him when it comes to individualistic skill set and craft. And yet he applies all this ability in an unselfish and team oriented environment. I think he could be a success but it really depends on the team he goes to. United for example play a system where he could thrive in as do the the two Milan teams and Arsenal. I'm not sure about other teams and his team of choice Barcelona. I don't think he could succeed with so many individualistic players like Messi on the pitch at once. I could be wrong but I think he needs to part of a squad that truly plays a team game. And when it comes to United, I imagine him as a player for us only if Ronaldo leaves. I also think he may have a problem playing his game with a me me me player like Ronaldo on the field with him. But who knows? The rest of the summer is now dead in a footballing sense, and so I need to get my fix another way - one is through debating next season :grin: Hope we'll sign someone soon, so I can enjoy that in stead of speculating, which is right now what floats my boat as a fan. @Grognard: I completely agree that it’s too early, and that’s exactly why, I’m interested in knowing what people think.
