“This is a shock as you can tell by the speech I’ve prepared”

Said Giggs, as he indulges in self-deprecation accepting the award for BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year. Widespread media reports suggest this was a surprise as he beat “supposed favourite” — and formula one driver — Jensen Button. Tee hee!

“I grew up watching this programme. To see the people that have won it and to be here is unbelievable.” He went on to add, “I am playing for the greatest manager that has ever lived and I’m playing for the greatest club. Perhaps I’ve become more appreciated as I have got older.”

Well done, Giggsy! Hopefully, your next stop is knighthood.

  • Well done for Giggsy. A true legend and a gentleman. It’s too bad all this other rubbish about the team, it’s form, the owners etc cloud a great moment like this when one of our true legends gets the praise and reward he so deserves for his many years of fantastic service to United and football in general. Giggsy for PM.

  • At the beginning of the past two seasons we thought that “it’s the final one for Giggsy, he’s too old” and he just surprises us by putting in stellar performances time and again. Immense player.
Hope that the fans stop turning on him straight away when he has a bad game though.

  • One sad thing regarding Giggsy. As great as has been and still is, he is not a player we should be relying on to quarterback our attack. Both he and Scholes are being relied upon far too much for a top of the line team and supposedly the second wealthiest team in the world. So we all have to ask the question, “Is there something wrong with this picture? I love him but he should only start a quarter of the games and be a sub for half of them. This is still a young man’s game and this great team is being asked to rely on the likes of him, Scholes, Neville and EVDS. That’s just not right it showed me that Fergie has fallen into a trap he never used to allow himself the luxury to be in. In the past the Bruce’s, Beckham’s, RVN’s Keane’s Robson’s and Pallisters were all shown the door when the time came that Fergie felt younger legs were needed. So why hasn’t he done that in the last few seasons with our four old goats? It’s not because they have been world beaters. Fine Giggs has been pretty good but Scholes and Neville have positively stunk 3 out of every 4 times. The reason is clear to me, no money to replace. Only money for young kids who are not ready or good enough to step in full time. Once again I bring up the name GLAZER.

  • @Grognard: Just imagine where we’d be if Giggs and Scholes were not playing this year. Very scary thought!!

  • @Redrich: Yes it is because this club has done nothing to sufficiently prepare for their departure. It’s unlike any great team to not have the right men in place when great stars reach the end. What is Fergie waiting for? These guys should have been gone well before him? I love Giggs but a replacement of world class credentials needs to be brought in because or wide players are total shite.

  • Is it true?

Some other articles suggest he’s out for 3 months :O

  • I’m sick of the sickening football being dished out by united at the moment… :x

  • @AndyCR7: Why would he be out for three months when he was available as a sub vs Villa? It was arthroscopic in nature and that doesn’t really cause much of a loss in time because it’s just like having a needle.
