Tottenham v Manchester United – Match Thread
According to my watch, Manchester United take on Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in about 4.5 hours. I imagine there’s plenty of people here looking to sound off pre and post match, so I’ll stay out of the way after a few links to keep you good company:
- If you can’t watch the game (stream or on tv), you can follow the live blog with Victor here.
- Brian Kingston has written an obituary on Gary Neville’s career (I repeat, his career, not the man himself) – it’s a good read but I wonder if Nev will know when to call it quits considering that the time came and went at the end of last season…
- Looking beyond Tottenham, Al Ahly lost to Pachuca 2-4, so there’s one potential Club World Cup opponent out of the picture.
- No news yet on whether Carrick, Ferdinand or Berbatov will play, although Ronnie is supposed to make an appearance and our troublesome twosome Rooney and Evra will be sitting out due to suspensions. It’s why we have these ‘squad players’, you know…
Alright then, my prediction for the game: Tottenham 1-1 United. Over to you.

Pachuca won the Copa Lib beating Fluminese on penalties so they will be no pushovers. However my hope is that we leave players such as Ronaldo, Berbatov, Carrick and other players who have been struggling with injuries.
I bet Fergie will start with Ronaldo today which is a shame because I really think Ronaldo needs a few weeks off until his injury problems are well and truly behind him.

I worry that G.Nev (r.i.p) will start. With O’shea bound to start on the left we can’t afford to have no pace at the fullback positions. With that in mind it means Park instead of Nani. Berbatov and Carrick will be fit. I hope Anderson starts to combat the physical presence of Jenas or HUddlestone, and to keep Modric out of the game.
VDS
NEV RIO VIDA SHEA
PARK CARRICK ANDERSON RON
TEVEZ BERBA
Although I’d rather have nani and rafa on and go for it. I wouldn’t be too surprised if Giggs starts instead of ronaldo or berba if not deemed fit.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. A loss or a draw today will virtually see us out of the title race too.

Afternoon Chaps and Chapettes.
Hope you’re all well. I have one of ‘those’ feelings about todays game; I just hope I’m wrong although it seems I’m not the only one a tad cautious.
Not sure on the starting 11 as yet but do have a stream for y’all.

Im back! Thanks to Ahmed Bilal for fixing this site problem of getting another artcile. Im not gonna blame RedRanter because I can understand if he is busy. But it would be nice to hear if he is alive or not.
So we play Spurs tonight… Hmm, a happy hunting ground for us in the past. Except for last seasons 1-1 draw we won 6 games in a row there. Scoring 16 goals. Spurs have played better lately, much because of Harry Redknapp. But also because of young Frazier Campbell. He has done brilliantly and his movement, vision and finishing has helped Spurs a lot. I hope he doesnt stay there for more than this season as he looks like the brightest prospect in English football since Wayne Rooney. You go on Fraiz! Oh, and thankfully he wont play today as he is out on loan from us. That will do us good.
How the hell can that happen, I dont know. But we must be much more clinical and have more speed in our build up. Message to striker: YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO SCORE, NOT PASS!!!
Jeeez! We wont get many chances tonight so it is important that we use those chances we get. If not, it will be a long, long, long Christmas. Scholes is not fit enough to start a game, so Fergie will use him as a sub. With Carrick being a doubt for tonight, I hope(for the teams, and his own, sake) that Anderson starts. He has been our best player lately, and like last seaosn, plays like the best there are when full of confidence. If he si benched tonight, I will personally fly to Manchester and kick Fergies arse.
If he honestly doesnt start I am convinced he is blind or suffers from age.
Ronaldo, Rio, Carrick and Berba are all doubts, Rooney and Evra are suspended and we already have Brown, Hargo and Welbeck on the sidelines. This wont be easy for us…
United have dominated most of the games they have played lately. In our last two games our possesion in the end is on an average of 82%. And we only scored 3 goals.
Team prediction:
VDS
Rafael Evans Vidic Oshea
Park Fletcher Anderson Ronaldo(if there is just 1% chance of him being fit, we know he is gonna start)
Tevez Berbatov
Score prediction: 2-0 to United. If we get an early goal I can see us scoring 4-5 goals, but if not then it will be a close affair and we will score on a defelction and a counter attack. Tevez and Berbatov to score.
COME ON YOU REDS!!!

A must win today at White Fart Lane. Ask yourselves this question; When was the last time United played an excellent away match against a decent opponent and actually scored three goals or more? Hopefully in three hours you can give the answer as today. But I doubt it. With one striker suspended and the other injured, with Ronaldo hurting and Evra out, it doesn’t look good. Hell all we need to make things complete is for Fergie to start Neville and Park. Sorry for this lads but my prediction today is Manchester Utd 0 @ Tottenham 1. Now it’s up to Fergie to prove me wrong and throw egg in my face.
That’s a bold prediction but I’ll go with it. Chances are the game will end 1-1 or even 0-0 but I have gut feeling Spurs want this one because of the Berbatov loss.

@Mr.Muhozi: I saw his English interview on MUTV yesterday and he really does sound like he’s loving life in Manchester; I hope a goal will act as the catalyst for the lad – because he is awesome. Im also fond of Nani but SAF doesn’t seem to be, I can see Park playing again today – he at least offers some defensive qualities.
Any news on the teams yet anybody? Per chance?
Come on the lads!

Where is Fergie?! Im on my way to Manchester!
How dare you bench Andy after the perfomances lately. If we lose, I will blame it on Fergie for not starting Anderson.
Shy cant he see that the way to break Spurs down is speed?! Middle of the field, wingers and up front. We need pacey players! Instead of Nani: Park. Instead of Anderson: Fletcher. Its a disgrace! Not so optimistic anymore, Fergie really has made a mess of this.

@RedDevilEddy: Relax man. Spurs are a good side and at home and will be fired up for it. It wouldn’t be that wise to go 100% attack at them…And, this way, if things are going badly we have offensive changes on the bench available. With your suggestions, what would we do in the second half to change things if its 0-0? Bring on Park for Nani? Bring on Fletch for Anderson? That doesn’t make much sense now does it….

@Drew Vader: drew, its not all about goals, anderson, is a much, much better player then fletcher. Fletcher has only found form last year and hes 24.

@Drew Vader: Good Call Drew, plus Nani is allergic to his own half – Park will at least track back. And like you said, Nani can come on and change a game, Park on the otherhand, not as much an impact. Gutted there’s no Anderson though. Still, same logic applies; we might see him come on and rock it!
Come on the lads!

Hey guys isn’t it ironic. 2 years ago I watched a great game between Hammers and Spurs. There were 2 heros in that game in Berba and Tevez and who would have though that within 2 years these 2 players will be in our team. I hope we have a good game and win it, cause we all know how much we need it.

@dan(u-ol): Who cares how old he is when he found his form? Its about right now and winning today, 12/13/08. And Fletch has been outstanding this year. I like Anderson also, don’t get me wrong, but I could say he has just only found his “form” the last two games…

Plus one for fergie for starting rafael, but minus 1 for dropping nani and minus 5 for dropping Andy.
Anyone who condones Fergie dropping Anderson hasnt been watching the matches. The fact that even Grognard came around to Andy speaks volumes to how the kid has been playing. And what kind of message does that send to Anderson that form alone wont keep in you in the team. I fear this might be my last straw with Fergie. At this point I hope Anderson,Nani, and Tevez move on after this year, cause they dont deserve this mickey mouse bullshit.
I Have tried to be patient with Fergie but I just cant do it anymore. He will have to prove me wrong by the end of the to regain my trust in his judgement.

@Drew Vader: I think your missing the point of “form”. It makes no sense to bench the in form player, in favor of a player who “was” in form earlier in the year. Plus Anderson has the potential to be great while fletcher has the potential to be a squad player like Oshea. So in my book I would prefer the potential if they are at the moment comparable in ability.

@m34ch: i saw that interview too, half the time it seemed he did not know what he was talking about, but at least he is learning english quite quickly, i just hope he can get a run of games, his form has been great yet fergie seems to prefer to play players he likes over players who are better, park over nani anyone?
