United agree deal for defender

PANews_P-358c6879-f2bd-4fc5-8d92-e097bf752815_I1Marcos Rojo is set to complete his €20m – £16m – transfer from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United, with Nani heading the other way, initially on a season-long loan.

Sporting Lisbon confirmed the deal via their official Twitter account and the defender, who becomes the fourth Argentine to play for United after Juan Sebastian Veron, Gabriel Heinze and Carlos Tevez, confirmed he’ll join Louis van Gaal’s side in an interview with Argentinian radio Continental.“It feels like a dream, to be a Manchester United player. Leaving Sporting wasn’t easy,” he said.

The 24-year-old Argetina international added he had spoken with Veron about the club when they were team-mates: “He told me about them when we played for Estudiantes.”

The terms of the deal are not yet completely clear, but United are expected to pay €10m – £8m – now, €5m -£4m – on December 1  and €5m on July 1 with Sporting having to pay €4m to Rojo’s previous club as a sell-on fee.

Nani, meanwhile, leaves Old Trafford after seven seasons to return to the club United signed him from and while it’s understood United will be paying his wages this season, his United career is as good as over.
