United captain not missing the hairdryer

v2Vidic-moyes-gettyNemanja Vidic has admitted that despite a somewhat lacklustre start to the campaign which has seen United drop five points in three games, David Moyes is still to unleash his own version of the “hairdryer” onto his players.

After a promising opening day at Swansea where United trounced Michael Laudrup’s side 4-1, David Moyes’ men were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Chelsea before slumping to a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool as the former Everton manager returned to Merseyside for the first time since joining United.

After the Liverpool game, however, Moyes backed and defended his players, at least publicly, in line with Sir Alex Ferguson’s philosophy of not criticising his own players and team in front of the media.

However, while Fergie would have spared nobody in the dressing room after a performance as shambolic as the one United put on at Anfield, David Moyes opted for a softer approach, according to Vidic.

“No. Until now he didn’t really have any need to, like you say, hairdryer and shout at players, because at the moment everything is going smooth.

“The players are training well, and as long as it’s like that he won’t have any reason to do it. Hopefully it will stay like that,” the United captain told the Mirror.

Vidic hailed the positive impact Moyes’ coaching staff has had on the players, discrediting a theory that earmarked a revamp in the coaching department as a potential Achilles heel for United this season.

“The training is different – different kind of routines – which is normal when the new manager comes.

“Obviously he’s brought his staff as well, who have worked with us for two months, and we’ve got to know each other more.

“It’s all positive – I think we are in good shape

“It’s not big, big changes – we have similar players – but he’s trying to teach the players different things.

“There are lots of positives, and now it’s the time to show them on the pitch,” explained Vidic.

The United captain admitted that David Moyes and Sir Alex Ferguson share many traits and that, despite United’s most successful era in history coming to an end in May, he relishes a new challenge.

“You know what, we had success with [Sir Alex] Ferguson,” Vidic told Talk Sport. “It was a pleasure and I’m glad I worked with him.

“But you know something new always comes – it’s new challenges, new training, new preparations.

“I had a great time with Sir Alex and we had so much success. I will always remember it as a good time.

“I saw him at Wimbledon – accidentally we had seats next to each other.

“We were supporting different players [Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic] and it was fun, it was nice to see him there.

“I was not his player at the time – he looked relaxed and he was with his family.”

“He’s not the kind of person who will change. He is straightforward – Moyes has a similarity with Sir Alex, he’s straightforward as well.”
