United Look for Bilbao Bounce-Back Against Baggies

Last season, all that stood between Manchester United and a perfect season at home was a 2-2 draw against West Brom. That nearly unblemished home mark was a necessity too, given that United didn’t fare all that well away from home last season.

Old Trafford hasn’t been the same fortress this season, as United have suffered two defeats and a draw in 13 league matches at home, went out of the Carling Cup quarters at home to Crystal Palace, and have won only one of five European home matches, with Thursday’s 3-2 stunner against Athletic Bilbao making it two defeats in two home Europa League games.

It’s an absolute must that United pick up the three points today at home to the Baggies, not only to restore confidence off the back of Thursday’s defeat and ahead of the trip to Bilbao, but to, at the very least, stay only two points behind City in the Premier League title race. City, who are 14 for 14 in home league matches, but today could represent an opportunity for United to pull level on points at the top (or better), with City facing a tough trip to Swansea City, who’ve gotten positive results against Spurs, Arsenal, and Chelsea at home this season.

The lineups have been announced, and kickoff is less than a half hour away.

Manchester United: De Gea; Jones, Evans, Ferdinand, Evra; Young, Carrick, Scholes, Welbeck; Rooney, Hernandez.

Subs: Amos, Rafael, Cleverley, Giggs, Park, Pogba, Berbatov
