Dec 18
United run rings around the Hoops.
Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick got on the score sheet as Manchester United delivered a great performance to seal a comfortable 2-0 win at QPR.
United were superior in every department and could have easily had five or six, such was the gulf in quality between Fergie’s men and the West London outfit.
Aiming to continue his team’s fine form away from home – 5 wins and 2 draws up to today – Ferguson fielded an attacking-minded 11 with an unchanged back four, Welbeck and Rooney up-front and Valencia and Nani out wide. Jones was, again, chosen alongside Carrick as defensive midfielder and the youngster produced yet another brilliant performance, further sign of his quality and development.
Ferguson, celebrating his 750th Premier League in charge for United, had registered his first win as United manager against QPR and his team were off to a fantastic start within the first 50 seconds.
QPR fans had barely taken their seats when Rooney played the ball wide to Valencia with his head, before making a brilliant run into the box to meet the Ecuadorian’s cross and convert the first chance of the game with a diving header. 52 seconds gone and United were already 1-0 up.
United looked in the mood and could have been 2-0 up within three minutes as Welbeck forced a great save from Cerny after Rooney had played a clever little ball for the onrushing England striker.
QPR’s third choice keeper would go on to deny United time and again throughout the afternoon.
United seemed happy to sit back and invite QPR forward but Warnock’s men couldn’t produce a single chance, and that, perhaps, explains their dreadful home record of one win in seven games.
United have often been accused this season – not unreasonably by the way – of being unable to play at a sustained pace for large spells, but it was a different story today. First Welbeck was judged offside after a very late call from the linesman on the far side when he appeared to be in line with the last defender, then Evans hit the bar from three yards after Cerny had misjudged Welbeck’s flick following a corner.
QPR’s keeper quickly made amends two minutes later, denying Jones after the United midfielder had burst forward to reach a perfectly weighted pass from Wayne Rooney. QPR might not have been the toughest challenge, but Jones’ runs from midfield today were nothing short of superb and had a “Robsonesque” feeling to them. If the youngster keeps going in such fine form it will be extremely hard for Fergie to move him back into the back four.
Cerny was at it again on the 30th minute mark when he pulled off a reflex save on Valencia, after Nani had ghosted past three defenders and pulled the ball back for Rooney, whose shot was then cleared off the line.
On the following corner Evans had Cerny beaten but QPR escaped again as Faurlin prevented the ball from crossing the line and, on the counter-attack, Helguson called De Gea into action, the Spaniard replying with a fine left foot save.
It was De Gea first and only contribution to the game, QPR never stretched the United back four, superbly marshaled by Ferdinand, and, when they did, they couldn’t find the target, with Bothroyd just before halftime and with DJ Campbell 15 minutes from time.
United started the second half in similar fashion, pushing for that second goal that would have put them out of sight.
The goal came after 10 minutes, from the unlikeliest of sources as Carrick intercepted a misplaced pass from Joey Barton before running half of the pitch and unleashing a low shot that beat Cerny on his near post.
After the first half heroics, it wasn’t a great piece of goalkeeping from QPR’s number 1 but it was, nevertheless, a well-taken and really deserved goal for Carrick.
Often indicated as United’s weak link in midfield, the Geordie’s form has drastically improved in the last few weeks, and he seems to be getting back to his 2006-07 best. With Phil Jones providing cover and muscles in midfield, Carrick is freed from defensive duties and can dictate the tempo of the game, sometimes even venturing in runs forward, just as he did today.
The second goal killed QPR off and the score-line could have been much more severe for Warnock’s men, but for another superb save from Cerny, as he tipped Welbeck’s curling effort over the bar, and a bit of bad luck for United as Jones hit the post after a clever one-two with Nani.
United continued their positive afternoon as they welcomed back Javier Hernandez, the United fans giving a rousing reception to the Mexican goal poacher as he entered the pitch.
But for the size of the ground – QPR’s Loftus Road is the smallest ground in the league, with a capacity just over 18.000 – an occasional spectator could have been forgiven for thinking that United were actually the home team, such was the noise produced by the 3.000 strong Red Army contingent.
Many of them felt the Christmas atmosphere, belting out countless renditions of “The twelve days of Cantona”.
United notched up another win on the road, the sixth in eight games and, with two goals conceded in the last seven league games, they looked really solid in every department.
Fulham away on Wednesday, followed by home games against Wigan and Blackburn are fixtures such that few would bet against Fergie’s men to be top of the league on New Year’s Day.

Team go to right direction. I rate Valencia, as much as he is pretty predictable but still can cross the ball. Both wide players track back as a result defense look very solid. Evans played very well, big sigh of relief seeing Vida’s injury is pretty serious one.
Attacking is depend on Rooney’s performance which I feel uneasy, need one more solid attacking star player.
United always made solid defense block and have some unique defense method, It is not easy task integrating many young players into new unit. so CL defense blip cost the team.
I hope that we try hard Europa game, team need to be instill winning mentality before we think about actually winning big cup.

Im surprised no one has mentioned keanes outburst at fergie today. I have to say, some of what the guy says strikes me as being incredibly bitter, but then i can also see where hes coming from too.
I suppose the bitterness isnt surprising, i mean his departure was hardly the ending that roy or united would have had in mind, and all for what was in his opinion, deserved criticism of the club, management at that time.
So to him, the way the club treated him was shite, and not the finish it really should have been, but then i suppose for fergie and club, bad mouthing the players, management wasnt really ever going to be tolerated, and so a departure was right for both parties.
I must say though, in regards to keane and his quotes regarding the basle game, which seems to be where this feud has been reignited, i find myself agreeing with roy 100%.
We simply werent good enough, we got exactly what we deservde, its as simple as that, end of.
So honestly why fergie found any reason to dispute that or had to resort to childish insults about keanes failure as a manager, strikes me as petty on fergies part.
Likewise the attempt at trying to make out keane was an enemy of the club, and someone who could no longer be trusted within uniteds little circle. Really petty stuff imo.
That i must say, annoyed me, certainly as i agreed with virtually everything keane had to say, and that i also admire the man in the way he has always spoken his mind (a bit like me).
Its sad to see therefore, the sort of reception hes getting from fans elsewhere, people not surprisingly, siding with fergie and slamming roy as being a bitter, sad old has been.
Not the sort of end a true bloody legend like keane ever deserves imo, especially as alot of what he has to say is dead on balls accurate.

Mate I agree with you on a lot of things, but not regarding Keane! Nobody disputes that Keane was a great player and a winner, but ever since he left Man Utd he has never stopped criticising the club and players in one thing or another. He is as bitter as bitter can be Tony. He is also a REVENGE merchant which as anybody who read his autobiography can see – he waited to get back at the Norwegian player who he felt had injured him and mocked him. Keane never forgets and moves on – he admits to deliberately trying to cripple the player as revenge attack, and he had waited a long time for it. I have no respect for Keane as a man – as a player yes, but not as a man. He is self destructive mate – he destroyed his relationship with the Irish FA, the Irish team and players anf fans by his behaviour leading up to the world cup – when he was sent home because of the despicable vaunting upon the Irish manager at the time. Now he is self destructing and drowning in his own bitterness regarding United and Fergie – just as you said that you agreed with Keane about his heavy criticism of our young players – I agree with Fergie, and that Fergie is right when he says that Keane failed thus far in management – he can’t man manage mate! Nuff said!

I suppose craig, its understandable the bitterness on his part, what with the way that he left the club, which obviously surprised and hurt keane, and still plays on his mind to this day.
As roy said himself, he and his whole family are all massive united fans. He was captain, our leader, a legend for the most successful period of the clubs history.
To do all that, and then for it all to end without a pat on the back, or a thankyou, obviously is gonna make even the most laid back person rather bitter.
Im not saying though that the decision to get rid, he didnt bring on himself, because absolutely he did, he really did leave the club with no choice but to terminate his contract immediately for the good of squad harmony, morale etc, and your also right, the constant snipings at the club, even when things are going well, are un necessary and bitter, and not something i can stand by and support roy over.
However, what roy said after basle, which seems to be the thing that has reignited this whole feud, i found to be absolutely spot on, and correct.
We werent good enough against basle, we got exactly what we deserved, some of the players probably have been rather arrogant thinking all we had to do was turn up (although admittedly i didnt agree with pinning it all on the young lads) so really i could see where he was coming from with that.
So for fergie to come out and rather childishly take a pop at keane over his managerial record, something that didnt really have anything to do with anything anyway, striked me as poor stuff on fergies part.
All keane was doing, was saying what 99.9% of us on here was saying, that we werent good enough and got what we deserved. There was no fergie out, these players need to be sold, should have bought sneijder etc etc comments or so called expert analysis telling fergie how to do his job, just stating the bleeding obvious, which for some reason fergie seems to have taken offence to.
Also the attempt by fergie at trying to portray keane as an enemy of united, someone who can no longer be trusted, i must admit did leave my feeling rather angry. What the hell had keane done to be cast out like that, labelled as yet another ABU pundit?
Well nothing really in my opinion, certainly nothing that was said after basle anything which seems to have been what has blown this thing up again.
So no mate, im not going to sit here and say i support keane with everything he has to say. Infact alot of what i read in his interview yesterday i found myself shaking my head at and saying please just let it rest roy.
All im saying, is that theres been stupidity on both sides, and the rather classless put me downs on keane and his managerial record by fergie, has stirred things again, and made the fans take a pop at keane and label him a united outcast, and someone no longer part of the united family.
Not the sort of reception he deserves imo, because regardless of his occassional snipes or pops at the club, its still clear that the man loves this club, and only wants the best for us. Hes just still got issues with the way the club got rid, and the way he has been treated by fergie, which whilst most came about because of his own actions, will still leave the man bitter, adding to fergies constant put downs etc leave for a rather pissed off person.
But without doubt there both being bloody idiots here, neither are blameless is all im trying to say.

I do not believe we played poorly out in Switzerland Tony, in fact we were by far the better team for most of the game. It was our inability to put the ball in the net that caused the failure – and that wasn’t the kids fault. If Vida hadn’t been injured they would not have got their 2nd goal for sure. At OT though we let ourselves down – 2-0 up and then played carelessly and brainlessly allowing them into the game. The kids inexperience did have a part in that one though. So I don’t agree with Keene’s criticism after the 2nd game which I though we did everything but score.
With regards to Fergie pulling Keene on his managerial failures – I think what Fergie was really saying is that Keene considering the failures of his teams that he managed – what was he doing criticising other managers with miles better records than him. Fergie felt he was talking out of place!
As for his treatment by our club – considering the amount of times his hotheadiness and losing it on the field – the number of red cards etc – and the Manager always supporting him in all these things and in the Irish fiasco – backing Keene, well like Stephen says there is no loyalty in football anymore – and Keene has a short memory of his treatment throughout his time at Man Utd – perfect treatment if you ask me. Yes he left under a cloud – but that’s Keene’s MO – he left the Irish WC team under a cloud, and Sunderland FC under the same cloud – trouble is maybe he is too much like Fergie – so they butt heads, and anybody who butts heads with Sir Ferg – well only one winner and outcome isn’t there – and that’s Sir Ferg in the eyes of a good many UNited faithful of whom I am one!

I agree regarding the young players craig, and i said so myself that anyone blaming the kids was way off, so not sure what keane was going on about laying into them tbh. Think it was more to do with the press conference the day before, where jones was saying they were relaxed which keane took exception to.
But yes i do agree, that game wasnt the worst performance ive seen, but i think what keane meant at the end of the day, was that over the course of the group, we got what we deserved. And i dont think anyone here will deny that and say we deserved anything other than the europa league. So for me, i found nothing disrespectful at all on keanes part with what he had to say, and certainly nothing worthly of the put down he received from fergie, atleast in my opinion anyway.
Going back to his treatment by the club which lead to his departure, well again mate im not going to defend roy for any of that. Ultimately he brought much of that on himself, im just making the point that you can understand, atleast from his side, why he might be feeling a little bitter.
I mean, afterall the threatended legal action from the club was classless, and fergies recent comments likewise arent exactly going to make you a very happy bunny after being painted almost as an enemy of the club, again for saying things that 99.9% of us fans were agreeing with.
So tbh im really not taking sides here, i think the pair of them have been childish and silly with alot of what theyve said.

Fergie was also hurting mate, going out of the Champions League hit Fergie hard. Keane dislikes Fergie and they have fallen out, so Keane has his own adjenda with regards to our manager and would take any opportunity to him him down. Keane digging out Jones and Smalling was wrong, as they have shown tey have what it takes to make it at United. Also funny that Keane attacked Richardson in his MUTV rant then signed him for Sunderland, he is as bad a Fergie. Also we were unlucky in Basle, we didn’t play that badly but got what we desreved. They are both head strong men and Keane was a great player and a poor manager, Fergie was a poor player but a great manager, they are two peas in a different pod.

Keane was finished in his latter days at United, he was still only at the club because of who he was. He hardly played when he signed for Celtic in what is pretty much a pub league. We should never forget what what he did for the club, but we also did a lot for him. The club chartered a flight home after his falling out with Ireland in the World Cup, lets also not forget his contract wrangling. He did also win a few pots, yes he was a major part of that but without Fergie it would have never happened. Yes Fergie is very stubborn, but what top manager isn’t?

I’ve read the biographies of both Gary Neville and the Ginger Prince, and when they mention Keane and his last days at United it kinda makes sense that he left. A warrior on the pitch, but off it he could be a maniac, and seem like what our modern world people call: emo. According to Gary it was a long time coming and didn’t surprise too many within the club.

Ferguson always struck me as very dictatorial so I do sympathise with Keane’s perspective. I’ve always hated the idea that any form of criticism is disloyalty. Most of the times Ferguson does a great job but when serious questions are asked, such as after our defeats against Barcelona and our disastrous Champions League campaign this season, he just sweeps everything under the rug and carries on with business as normal.
In a way it is good because he defends the team from the press and stops them dwelling on defeat.
But I think Ferguson’s failure to sometimes be objective can cost us. It means it takes him too long to see obvious weaknesses in his teams. Our midfield is a classic example even though Carrick and Jones did a great job today papering over the cracks.
Keane may be bitter about the way he was treated by Ferguson, the lawyers and so on. But he is Manchester United through and through and loves the club and I am sure he was hurting just as much as any Manchester United fan when we got knocked out against Basle.

As much as great football manager, Fergie is another old man who cannot accept criticism very well like most people. It is no biggie though, Don’t want admit some faults doesn’t mean Fergie keep make mistakes.
In ideal world, as Keane state, we shouldn’t rely on young prospects but even Fergie cannot make right decisions all time. Anderson doesn’t glow up as we expect, Fletch/Carrik have some problems etc.
Rebuilding successful squad has been done by very few selected managers only. I think that Keane do underestimate difficulties.

Exalting Keane over Fergie is a BIG mistake IMHO! Keane is trying to take the credit for the glory years at United – yeah right, he must have been the only top class player we had then. He is a bitter feudal stirrer upper. He chose to leave Man Utd – so as far as I am concerned he has NO say whatsoever about what is happening on the field present day! You can bet there will be no welcome for him at OT anymore – not from the clubs aspect anyway. I may be alone in this opinion, as seems some of you fans are Keano loyal – but for all his faults I am Fergie loyal. I will give Keane one thing though – Fergie’s grievance with the Irish magnate board members over his racehorce share turned out to be disastrous for Man Utd, as said magnates sold their shares to the shit Glazers and led to the takeover of our club by those money grabbing franchisers!

Totally agree with that, the thing that made me laugh was CQ discussing loyalty with Keane, when he had just come back from being sacked at Real…….
Keane was a great, great player for us but is a legend in his own lunch time, he is bitter and needs to move on, we all have. He slagged United off when he was a manager, now he trying to get the fans on his side. When is comes down to siding with anyone, the United faithful will always go with Fergie, unless your name is Grognard….

you guys noticed that Arsenal may get a game off during end-of-year crunch due to impending tube (subway) strike…. tough shit, I say!
Last year, Chelsea got to cancel games due to a little snow and now Arsenal will cancel because their fans have to find alternative transportation — if they really care about fans, set up bus transportation.

I don’t really see the issue to be honest, it’s easy getting to the Emirates. It’s easy to get to if you’re in central London, you can take the bus or walk the cold off you if you’re desperate!
Can’t exactly say Arsenal have been filling their Stadium this season either…

Looking at our Christmas schedule it all looks pretty “easy”. Fulham haven’t been on top form this season, they were totally dominated by Liverpool although getting the win. If I remember correctly the referee from that game got banned, no? Anyway, they’ll be our toughest opponent until we face Newcastle in January, with Wigan and Blackburn visiting Old Trafford for the remaining two games. If we beat Fulham, we should be alright.

Were we cowardly when we played that system with Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez because so many keep romanticising about that period but were moaning the same then. We still play some of the best football in the league and have for seasons, if we attack and and get hit on the break like against City, people moan, Fergie can’t win.

@Stephen: You should go back and watch the game at liverpool again mate, because that to me was cowardly football at its best. Aside from leaving out our 2 most dangerous players, we resorted to hoof ball football and punts up field in the hope welbeck or young got on the end of one, for nigh on an hour.
Seriously, even the fucking scousers started booing, i mean the inventors of that type of football getting fed up with it.
Its nowt to do with the 1 striker up or anything like that, atleast with me anyway, it was just the incredibly negative, unimaginative football for 75% of the game that got me in a huff.
And that was against a decent yet unspectacular pool side. With the 6-1 still ringing in our heads, i cant even imagine how were gonna approach that game tbh.

Our record there of late was poor, a draw away there was hardly a bad result, was he cowardly against Arsenal? Some people just look to find fault in what Fergie does, we are still the only side which plays 4-4-2, with two wingers, yes cowardice personified….

@Stephen: I didnt have a problem with the result, just the performance we saw for the first hour of the game, where we honestly didnt seem at all bothered coming there to play football, and were quite content knocking aimless balls up over the top as far as we could.
We saw in the final 30 mins what we could do when we had a go, why wasnt that type of performance seen from the beginning rather than an hour in when we were a goal behind?
@RedDevilEddy: Eddy, who said anything about the city game mate, i was talking about liverpool.
But in any case, whilst i feel the 6-1 most definitely flattered shitty, they atleast came to us with 2 men up top, silva in behind, with milner dropping deep in on the right side to fill on for richards when he was getting up and down.
So i would have to give credit where its due, but even then though, i could care less about city and how they approach a game, as i have no desire to be anything like such a classless piece of shit club. So yes as i said the score line probably did flatter them, but still atleast they didnt come to play hoof ball football for most of the match like a pathetic league 1 side as we did at liverpool.
That was my only point. Regardless of the result, manchester united just should not approach a game like that. I suggest everyone goes back and watches that first hour at anfield, because honestly, i might be a bit ott at times with certain things i say, but nobody is gonna convince me we were anything other than dreadful that day and approached that game all wrong.
@Craig Mc: Its not an isolated thing though craig. Honestly, go back and watch that again and you’ll see what i mean. It was also the norm against everton a few weeks later, as well as benfica (away) and so many other occassions. If fergie was as angered as i was after that game, he could have stamped it out there and then at half time. But we seemed content that despite never looking like scoring, the result wasnt beyond us and so did the same for another 20 minutes until we had no choice but to go for broke.
Now i know you cant always play good football at ground like anfield, goodison all that easily, but as i said then and as im saying now, manchester united should absolutely never, and i mean never, be content to play long ball football, with only 2 players in the opposition half (young and welbeck) and be happy to hold on for a point that way.
Just no.
But anyway i think ive gone on enough now and had my say. That game was months old now and its something that im quite happy to never think about again, i was just making the point that in our only away game against one of the big sides this season, we approached that game all wrong, and tbh i hope i never have to sit through something like that ever again as quite frankly, save the last 30 mins when we went behind, i was embarrassed by such a performance.
With city coming up and with us still yet to go to the likes of white hart lane, the emirates, the bridge and wastelands, im just hoping we dont see a repeat of the sort of performance seen at anfield thats all.

@tonymontanna4united: Yes but any fan can moan about the performance of their club in individual games. We have in spells been great this season, but some focus on the negative. I respect that as this is a rant side, but too many just want to slag the manager off and for me this is unfair. Yes he has made some bad decisons, but we are second behind a side which has unlimited transfer funds, under who else would be able to achieve that? Give the man credit, you and many were have ago all last season and mate I am not having a go, but we won the league in the end. People were saying we would not finish in the top 6 at one point!

@Stephen: Well thats the way i am mate, cant help that. I wont hold back or sugar coat what i see, but id always like to think i was fair with my criticisms.
Last season, your absolutely right, i did have a lot to say in regards to some of our performances, our tactics, and our lack of good football, but then i would say despite the fact we won the league, most of what i said was still valid.
We were mediocre for much of last season, and indeed we have been mediocre for all but a half dozen of the games this season, and yet as you say we still sit 2nd in the league.
Staggering.
And i put that all down to one man, and that is of course the manager, who i doffed my cap to at the end of the season.
However thats not to say the man is beyond criticism.
That he doesnt make mistakes/errors nor that this is one of his more average united sides during the PL era, nor that our football has become alot more italian, mourinhoesque as some might put, which is going to take some getting used to after 20 years of near perfection.
So im aware that most of what i write probably does get frowned upon by some of you elder members on here as nothing more than the ramblings of some immature kid with his head in the clouds, but nonetheless thats the way i feel.
I will always speak as i find things, although as i said, i would like to think im fair in my criticism and praise also.
I just havent seen an awful lot this season that is praiseworthy though if im honest, so as a result, focussing on the negatives, of which there have been more than usual this season, is just me speaking as i find.
I hope you can understand that anyway mate, i dont come on here to intentionally start arguements or set out to slam fergie and everything he does, i just try not to let the mans achievements and reputation cloud my opinions when he does make mistakes, and speak as i find.
I might love and respect fergie at the end of the day, but i love and respect united alot more.

Oh friggin Nora – Sir Ferg wants to change the team for the Fulham game, and bring Ashley Young back in??? Please Sir Ferg don’t do it, leave it for just one more game as it is, because we are on a run – and freshen it up in the two upcoming home games – thankyou!

@Craig Mc: Agreed matey, keep it the same certainly for the away games, but freshen up in the home games. We have a decent festive fixture list and with the side playing well, please SAFFY leave the side alone…..

@Craig Mc: Can we please just have a single sodding game without having to see evra in the starting line up, thats all i ask. Please god, am just sick of the sight of the guy, and yet he always seems to avoid fergies rotation policy. Must be blackmailing fergie with some saucy pics of him doing something he shouldnt or something, because its certainly not his performances on the pitch that are keeping him in the team.

@Stephen: I hate Real Madrid, but I have always respected Mourinho. In Spain it is a case of being the lesser evil than Barca. The Special One was the single biggest challenge to Ferguson in the Premier League, a place widely regarded as his own backyard. I’ve never been more nervous before a match than a game against Mourinho’s Chelsea.
I can’t for the life of me come up with a better candidate for the United job than Jose, but we’ve had a massive discussion on this topic before here, so I’ll just stop now…

@Moscow is my heaven: We will always disagree with regards to Mourinho mate. I can’t stansd Real and lets not forget how they tapped up Ronaldo, Barca are a fantastic side with 8 home grown players in their starting 11. They are also dispicable in their actions, but for me the lesser eveil against Real

We could have easily lost 5-0 to Barcelona.
It is ridiculous to say Manchester City parked the bus against us at Old Trafford. We just walked straight into their counter attacking trap. They executed their game plan perfectly and all their players were impressive. We had no real answer to their game plan and our players were having off days.
Surrendering the centre and killing us on the flanks and counter. No team has ever tried that against us before. Fair play to City for figuring out that when you are lining up against a midfield of Anderson and Fletcher you can give them all the possession in the world and they won’t do anything useful with it.
It is not an easy game plan to execute and they did it well. I’m amazed more teams don’t try that tactic against us.

Moscow I’m a huge Mourinho fan as well. Every team he has managed he has made better and in a very short space of time. He turned Real into one of the best four teams in the world and won Inter the Champions League for the first time in his history. And as you said he is the only manager besides Ferguson and Wenger to win the Premier League two years in a row.
I accept the criticism about his brand of football. But Ferguson no longer serves up the sort of fare he gave us in the 90s so I don’t think that criticism is as strong as it used to be.
The only valid criticism we can make of Mourinho is he doesn’t develop youth. But we have a young team and by the time Mourinho takes over all it will need is a few well chosen signings to create a very strong team. And it is a myth that Mourinho breaks the bank-most of his effective signings for Real and Inter were in the £10-20 million range. And we all know that as a Chelsea manager he has zero influence over transfer policy. Had he been allowed to make the signings he wanted at Chelsea I am convinced he would have won them a Champions League title.

@colver: Were Real that bad when he took over? No they finished second with the largest points tally for years. Chelsea also finshed second with no money then he had an open cheque book, oh yes Inter were Champions when he took over too.
As Moscow sayes, we all have our opinions on TNSSO, many hate the arrogant little git, some swoon and hang over his every egocentic word. Truthfully Charlton has said he won’t be the next United manager, so really there is no debate.

@Stephen: I really hope that Sir Bobby is not making a mistake here. Because if its turn out to be a mistake then Post Fergie Era will be much more dreadful and disasterous then Post Busby Era I feel… And at the end of the day FACT remains that it is always better to have him in our corner then in Shitty’s Corner becasue if that happens we all not what will follow…

Fergie keeps saying we’re not going to sign anyone in January, and seemingly no number of injuries will convince him otherwise. However, I believe we will make a midfield signing, but not because we are short on numbers.
The only thing that seems to cause Fergie to act in the Transfer market recently (Smalling, Jones, Hernandez) is jumping in to action because one of our rivals is about to make a move on a longer term target.
Chelsea today have been linked with a move for Jack Rodwell.
We know this is a player Fergie has been scouting and keeping a close eye on and, in my opinion, the intention of leaving him at Everton to develop as his contract gets smaller. Well it looks like we either have to go and get him in January or watch him improve the Chelsea team instead of ours.
Add to this his love of both British and more importantly English players and a player with Premier League experience from a lower club who can ‘step up’ to United and I think the only chance we have of making a signing in January is Jack Rodwell. And I’d be pretty happy with that to be honest.

@RedDevilEddy: Yes, without him, they’d be in their rightful place in the middle of the table!
Perhaps while he’s out, he’ll work on his finishing, because along with all of those shots against the woodwork, he’s had a good few other misses as well. He’s a fantastic player, no doubt, and his absence will hurt them since defenses focus so much attention on him, but it won’t cripple them as much as it would if he was taking more advantage of the million chances he gets and creates during almost every time out.
