United striker unhappy with loan spell

Javier HernándezJavier Hernandez has accused Real Madrid of not making him feel important during his loan spell at the Bernabeu, adding he was unhappy at the lack of first team opportunities.

The Mexican joined the Spanish giants on loan late in August last year after Louis Van Gaal deemed him surplus to requirements, but failed to impress at the Santiago Bernabue and has now returned back Old Trafford after Real opted against extending his loan.

Hernandez, who scored nine goals in 33 appearances in all competitions, had his best moment when he scored the winner to knock local rivals Atletico Madrid out of the Champions League but, despite the exploit, he failed to earn a spot in the staring XI.

“The goal against Atletico was a relief because it was a difficult year with very few opportunities,” he told Spanish sports daily AS.

“It was a release. I had to warm the bench a lot. My time in Madrid was massively frustrating because I did not feel important.

“The season at Real Madrid was one full of learning. It helped me find myself again as a player.”

The 27-year-old, who is understood to be determined to remain at United, has been linked with a move to Inter Milan and there have been suggestions he could be included in a deal for Harry Kane, should United opt to move for the Spurs’ striker, who scored 31 goals last season.
