Transfer Rumours

United to offload £8m man

454078856Tom Cleverley could soon be heading to Aston Villa, with various sources reporting Manchester United have accepted a £8m from Villa for the 25-year-old midfielder.

talkSPORT and the Daily Mail suggest Cleverley, who had also attracted interest from Hull, West Ham and Everton could leave the club by the end of the transfer window, as his first team opportunities could shrink even further if, as largely expected, United bolster their midfield options over the next couple of days.

Cleverley enjoyed extremely promising loan spells at Watford and Wigan before returning to Old Trafford ahead of the 2011-12 season, which he began in fashion by delivering a sumptuous performance after coming on at halftime in the Community Shield, as United came back from 2-0 to beat City at Wembley.

However, Cleverley has failed to live up to his potential and over the past two seasons his progress has stalled and the 25-year-old has regressed as a player, attracting severe criticism from large section of United supporters.

While he isn’t as bad as some say, Cleverley looks constantly out of his depth in a red shirt and his focus on extra curricular activities – his TC23 brand, to be blunt – hasn’t won him many admirers.

Selling Cleverley for £8m would represent excellent business for United.
