United to swap keepers with Real?

reu_21174691Louis Van Gaal wants Real Madrid to include a player in any deal involving David De Gea’s transfer to Real Madrid, although the player in question is likely to disappoint Manchester United fans.

According to popular Spanish newspaper Marca, the Dutchman has told the Spanish giants that he wants Real Madrid’s goalkeeper Keylor Navas as part of the deal.

Considering United look set to lose a world class goalkeeper in De Gea, replacing him with Navas makes very little sense, given the Costa Rica international, who, admittedly, was excellent at the 2014 World Cup, is part of the reason behind Real’s decision to do everything they can to convince De Gea to move to the Bernabeu this summer.

In his first season in the Spanish capital Navas has struggled to hold down a starting spot, with Carlo Ancelotti rotating the 28-year-old and Iker Casillas last season, with neither goalkeeper looking consistent enough.

However, Spain’s captain appears likely to remain at the club even once De Gea arrives at Madrid, which would push Navas closer to the departure gate.

Meanwhile, Spanish website ABC suggests that Navas is only “an option” and that United could also ask for Fabio Coentrao to be included in the deal.

World class goalkeepers are few and far between but surely United could do better than settling for a player who would effectively be his club’s third choice by the time De Gea moves to Madrid?
