  • At this rate we are going to mess up ANOTHER easy group.

Much as I love to complain about our central midfield it is very clear to me that the young defenders replacing the old guard simply are’t up to the job. Far too many schoolboy errors, absolutely no organization and a total neglect of duties.

  • Anyone who believes Welbeck is better or has more potential than Hernandez is awfully wrong.

Also, Büttner and Cleverley are twins.

  • @ colver are you watching mate? There are actually no young defenders in this one saf has chosen to experiment with carrick in defense again!

  • Carrick in defence is a permanent disaster waiting to happen, he is a MF player FFS Fergie! Then what else does SAF do, he takes off the one guy who is on fire – Hernandez and replaces him with 39 year old Giggs – if that’s not lunacy I don’t know what is. Also Hernandez really scored a hat trick, because his goal disallowed was NEVER offside and neither was the other offside which was given when Hernandez once again spinned off his marker and would have scored. He is another Michael Owen when Owen was at his very best, and they want to sell him for 8 million and keep Welbeck! Fergie may have grey hair but he certainly isn’t wise. Anybody with any brains in Spain or Italy should snatch United’s hand off to get Hernandez if SAF is still foolish enough to want to get rid. Never ever ever play Cleverley and Kagawa together in MF, its the midget brigade, and get some new fullbacks to help Rafael out, because we are very wanting in those areas and need another top class centre half too because Rio is not able to play enough games now, not nearly enough. Fook me I could go on all night, but I will finish on a positive note, we won! However we are not going to be able to go on playing the great escape game in and game out. Fergie said the answer to the CL games is continuity – keeping the same team, Oh how forgetful our boss is getting these days!

    • @Craig Mc: Pulling Hernandez before he had a chance at his hat-trick makes me wonder if this wasn’t a showcase for the European audience. Putting Hernandez in the shop window would be consistent with United’s model of balanced trading (ie, net profit on player trades) and a clear sign that value is more important than quality.
BTW, good game from the Pea.

  • I have criticised Hernandez over the past few weeks and last season but I have to give credit to him tonight, his touch was decent and his positioning was wonderful, fox in the box stuff. Pleased for him, he doubled Welbeck’s goal tally for the season in one sitting.

    • @Moscow: The determination Chicharito showed on the side line when he raised himself up and sprinted with ball across midfield and delivered a beautiful pass to Nani highlighted how much he has improved his passing/ball control. His goals were great goals showcasing his positioning/finished/awareness that Welbeck is missing. Chicha has improved his weaknesses tremendously in the last 6 months and today he reaped the rewards with an excellent performance.

If we sell him, it better be in the region of 20 million. How much was Carroll again ;)

Say what you want about hernandez and his weaknesses, atleast everyone can agree the guy is a bloody good goalscorer.
That in itself should put to bed any ideas about getting rid-you can never have too many top class goalscorers i believe.
Dont want to turn this into another welbeck v hernandez debate, ive acually not given up hope on welbeck, but for me tonight shows 2 things:
1- hernandez needs/deserves more games, because quite simply when he plays hes got a good chance of scoring such is his finishing ability, and at the end of the day that is a strikers job, so for all welbecks attributes his scoring record really is dire to say the least and that does count against him.
2- we all know about hernandez’s faults (poor first touch, control etc) but i think from watching him so far this season he actually looks like hes been working on this part of his game, and has made some progress there. Thats got to deserve some credit.
3- He got 2, should have been 3, goals tonight. Hes in form. So as was my feelings before tonight actually, the guy should start at chelsea. Hernandez vs luiz sounds tasty to me.
It also means we line up with 2 strikers in rvp and hernandez who are both deadly and will keep chelsea’s defence on their toes.

As for the game tonight, awful defending for the 2 goals (nothing new there then), really annoys me weve got young talented kids like wooton on the bench who we overlook time and time again in favour of a 30+ year old midfielder. Pissed me off actually, seems the young kids will just have to wait and wait and wait……… etc
Decent 2nd half though. Thought the nani substitution worked well, and buttner on the left looked good.
Be nice to get the group done with quickly, although with our defence the shambles it currently is, i cant see us progressing anywhere in this competition. And thats without even mentioning the midfield.
Hopefully smalling makes his comeback asap, cos the guy is in the team from day 1 and stays there as far as im concerned.
Too many experienced players taking their places for granted, lacking the fight anymore who need to be put out for pastures.
Rio tops that list with evra.

  • It is ludicrous to talk about selling Hernandez when we have hardly any goals coming from midfield.

We need to use some rotation to give him games-he is far more than just a super sub.

Even then there is a risk he will want to leave to get a regular starting berth because lets face it he’ll never get into the team ahead of Van Persie and Rooney for at least the next few years. But we should try our best to keep him happy and make him feel like a valued squad member.

Of course the problem as we saw tonight is the diamond formation isn’t particularly balanced.

The real value of Welbeck is he can play in that left winger cum forward role that gives us some width but also some firepower. I think we need to develop him in that role as we’re fine for strikers but left wing has always been a problem area.

I dunno how we will use Kagawa. Rooney has shown he is streets ahead of Kagaya as a support striker becoming the heartbeat of the side and Kagaya is too lightweight to be a central midfield and doesn’t fit as a winger.

Great player no doubt but I dunno how we’ll fit him in.

  • CraigMc, I hate to say this, but I think there is a good argument for cashing in on Vidic, as for all his ability he cannot seem to stay fit, and is still quite marketable.

Rio should be moved into the Scholes/Giggs bracket IE used to give some extra quality and experience but not relied upon as a first team regular.

Evans is developing into a fine defender but he is not a leader. He needs a leader alongside him. Not a Smalling or a Jones. So I think there is a lot to be said for cashing on Vidic and buying an experienced central defender in the 25-28 age range (KEY REQUIREMENT: Not at all injury prone ) who can play alongside Evans for the next 3-4 years until one of Smalling or Jones is mature enough to become a fixture in our central defence.

The site is loading slower and slower with every graphical improvement. Anyone else noticing this slow-down?

  • It seems 4-3-2-1 is the best combination with the players we have.Carrick,Scholes/Cleverly and Valencia .Then Rooney and Kagawa behind RVP..Uff how can i remove Fergie’s adopted son Wellbeck from the starting team…?

  • Good game last night things I have noticed.
Kagawa – Looks lost, I think Fergie is struggling to see how to deploy him.
De Gea – Needs to go on loan in this Country. He has no confidence and like Hart a season away might be the making of him.
    We need a settled system.
Nani – He made a massive difference last night, good for him.
Chicharito – Proved his sceptics wrong, super lad and a great goal scorer.
Fergie – Going back to his square pegs in round holes ideology. Play a midfield player in midfield and a defender in defence. Pogba left due lack of games, look at him now for Juve.
RvP – He is great, I love watching him play.
Buttner – Looks really good, I haven’t seen step over’s like that since Ronaldo!
Cleverley – I can’t make my mind up about him?!
Fletch – Is Fergie only sticking by him because he is Scottish? Also in the passed he has pulled player out of the National squad when they are rehabilitating, er not him, wonder why.
Evans – Good to see his is proving his critics wrong, yes he has scored more than Welbeck this season..
Chelsea – If we go a goal down against them, we won’t come back.
