United will allow De Gea to leave

David-De-Gea_3258445Manchester United will allow David De Gea to join Real Madrid this summer, after privately accepting that there’s little they can do to convince the Spaniard to sign a new deal.

According to the Telegraph, Louis Van Gaal’s admission that the club had started planning for life after the Spaniard was not intended to force De Gea into signing a new deal but highlighted that United have almost given up of retaining his services.

While negotiations between the club and Jorge Mendes, De Gea’s agent, have been amicable and United are prepared to pay whatever it takes to extend the 24-year-old’s contract beyond next season, they have accepted the Spaniard’s desire to return home.

Citing a club source, the Telegraph reports that United have “accepted that the 24-year-old is a ‘Madrid boy’ and the pull to return to Spain might just prove irresistible” for De Gea.

“David loves the club but he has personal ties there,” said the source.

On Saturday, Spanish sports daily Marca claimed that the United goalkeeper was the “chosen one” and that he had already reached an agreement with the 10-time European champions.

“The most difficult and tortuous part is yet to come – negotiations with Manchester United,” the newspaper conceded.

Real are understood to be ready to offer £22m for the 24-year-old and while United have not given up hope of extending his deal, they would rather sell him this summer than seeing him leave for free next summer.
