United’s £100k+ Christmas party, useless Shorey, Arsenal will stumble and of course, Rooney is better than Kaka
A quick round up of the top United news of today (and yesterday).
As Marco reports, the Manchester United players are preparing to spend over £100k on their Christmas party. I’m pretty sure that Arsenal players will be getting together for another evening playing flutes and dancing to Brazilian table drums (with the highlight of the party coming from Fabregas and Flamini re-enacting their Arsenal goal celebrations), but then again, that’s the price you pay for being boring as fuck on top (not talking about the football, mind you).
On a serious note, considering that a major chunk of this team is going to grow up together in the nest 4-5 years it’s good to see the United players bonding. Some might consider this as players taking their eyes off the target, but a well-rounded life is key to being a better footballer, and well, I can’t in good conscience say that partying hard is bad
There are other stories as well (I’ll come to Arsenal soon enough): Nickey Shorey is being rumoured as a potential January target for Manchester United. Bollocks. If anything, players like Simpson, Evans, Pique and O’Shea deserve more games and they should be playing across the back four, subbing for Brown and Evra more often. It’s unfortunate that two of our defenders are permanently on the doc’s table and that leaves us a bit thin across the back, for sure.
Perhaps after the Christmas run of games we’ll be able to judge better if we need a new player, but we have 10 quality defenders on the books already (4 mentioned above, Brown, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Neville, Silvestre), surely if any money is to be spent in January, it can be spent on renewing contracts for a few key players (or buying a striker to reduce our dependence on Saha).
Maradona says that Rooney is better than Kaka – IMO this is more of a takedown for the Brazilian Kaka than it is praise for Rooney. To be fair, even Rooney was more consistent and performing at a better level overall than Kaka last season, so Maradona does have a point.
And lastly, Sir Alex says again that Arsenal will stumble. Sure they will, but I don’t want us to sit around and wait – we need to start closing off the easy games and turning things up a notch in the big games, because so far this season we’ve been stuck in 2nd gear (remember the start?).
Roma are up next week, Liverpool on the next weekend, will be interesting to see which team Fergie sends out to Rome.
Alright then, that’s all for today, over to you guys.

Jameso; For an investment banker you have serious anger issues and need to consult a dictionary and or thesaurus as well because plain English seems to be a bit of a problem for you. I never put down England nor did I insult anyone specifically by calling them names. I was simply calling for a little restraint and a sign sportsmanship and a bit of class. Clearly you are having issues with my request. Perhaps my line referring in general to assholes and illiterates hit a little too close to home for you? I don’t know but it was intended to make some people out there realize that they were reacting the wrong way. And I’ll be fucking flogged and flayed before I apologize for my comments because nothing I said was incorrect. Quite often the truth hurts mate. If you are so sensitive and blindly loyal to the point of name calling and violent behavior, then go see a shrink. Don’t mistake passion and loyalty for the lunatic fringe.
I personally don’t give a rats ass about how passionate you are for your team, which also happens to be my team and the team I most support in all sports. Canadians are also passionate about their teams and MOST of us actually carry ourselves with a bit of class. We don’t pop the cork on the champaign until we actually win something and trash talking is not the way we deal with our opponents. That’s an American illness that seems to be spreading. I guess as a nation we suffer from a bit of an inferiority complex because we are humble, non violent types and we don’t count our chickens before they are hatched. We also show hatred to our opponents but we temper it with respect also. Get a grip and relax. Also try to read something without getting so bloody emotional. In that I am often guilty too so I can relate.
And by the way Jameso, I am as much a Man Utd fan as you are so stop referring to me as a ranter because I’m not a serial Arsenal fan who just infiltrated this site. I am a loyal member like you are. All I was saying was the supporters should contain their joy because we hadn’t won anything yet. Was that so fucking wrong? I don’t think so.

while grognard’s comment seem a bit extreme, i wuld like to second his idea of controlled optimism. Arsenal havent exactly stumbled yet. Yes, their performance was bad against the toon, but they’re still 4 points ahead of the us. The week they play chelsea, we play l’pool…. while everyone has been quick to rule them out, pool is playin some decent football now (they have scored more goals than us)…. i’d like us to get thru that game (and the game b4 that) unscathed b4 i jump to any conclusions.

Karl; Enjoying the ride doesn’t mean getting drunk on the way there. Thats how accidents happen. I’ll enjoy the progress to the end of the season but I will become euphoric only after we have officially won something. Also my points were more about respecting our opposition and realizing that they aren’t pushovers. Is a bit of sportsmanship such a bad thing to show these days. 4 points is four points. I bet Chelski fans sounded as silly last year claiming they would win this weekend while United would lose and then we could go out to the pub and get hammered etc etc etc. The EPL and the CL are marathons, not sprints. Controlled optimism is the ticket here, not riotous celebrations.

wow, i like this argument, as per my opinion non of you guys is wrong.
i come from a different part of the world like you guyz but we do all happen to be fanatics of the same club thus advocating for the same issues.
In Grognard’s support, four point is 4 points and that shouldnt cause all this rakus, fracus and circus, perharps a little bit of a jovial mood can work but not to the extent a psychologist will tell after reading the comments of you guys.
But on the other side of the coin, i prefer to support what Jameso and his contemporaries are celebrating for. When SAF assured the whole world (arsenal players inclusive) that arsenal is to drop points, he wasnt mad. He’s said it on several occassions, december determines alot who the champion is gonna be, so if someone flatters just at the beginning of december before the real nitty-gritty stuff starts, for sure it calls for alarm on his side and for celebrations on his opponents side
On many accasions, united has always come from behind while chasing those on form teams and went on to win the trophy. In fact, Grognard dont fault
your fellow fans, they learning the trade from their manager, THAT is what they call mind games(to who they are aimed at, i dont know). You have to accept it the hard way. My two arse anal fan brothers are already shaking coz of this jubilation.
Lastly if i can borrow quotes from Formula One, Alonso told the talented young English F1 driver in the names of Lewis Hamiliton, that whatever
bad lucks that have happened to him will at one time before the season ends befall Hamiliton, and indeed it did happen. You can never have a clean run all season long,no no no God is also just. When united had a bad start all arse hole fans were jubilating. To see that we are still in their necks in contention when they havent falted! Why not make a toast when they do falter, coz then we know they will never see us again not until we are going home with a back to back.
Guyz celebrate!, arsenal funs are not noisy just over there, this way i cant tell, you cant report for work the next day after a loss on saturday or
sunday if u happen to be a Red Devil…
By the way i did enjoy serving the queen on her last visit to my country for the Chogm meeting.

Nice write up Jay Jay. Good points. I think what has me always concerned is the fact that Arsenal was once undefeated for the whole season and that Chelsea only lost one game the season after. United are four points behind but if these buggers from London don’t lose, we have to hope for them to draw many times and for us to not lose anymore games. We are great but with all the games we have to play in all competitions, we will have a hiccup somewhere I’m sure. Arsenal on the other hand I feel will hiccup in the Champions League. They seem very determined to win the EPL. It is vital we not lose more than one more game and that we definitely beat Liverpool and Arsenal at home. If we falter in these games and don’t get maximum points I will begin to really worry. Four points is four points. I’d give anything for that to be reversed. The frustrating thing is that even without Fabregas and Hleb those tossers still find a way not to lose a match. That’s gritty. I’m still not confident United can accomplish shit without Rooney or Ronaldo in their lineup. They have our number when it comes to depth.

Good points Jay Jay.
Grognard, I agree with you. I also feel that we should savour these little victories.
I know we have not won the league yet, but if we watch football and only enjoy the end of the season, then it is a waste of almost a year of our lives.
I will promise you one thing though. If we win at Anfield, I WILL be celebrating as if we’ve won the league. That is regardless of whether I personally believe that Liverpool does not have a chance to win it anymore.
One last thing, we have a much better squad than Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and City. We need luck to win the PL though, but so do all of them. We should never underestimate our opponents, but they should be the ones fearing us. We are the champions after all, not Arsenal.
