Mats Hummels will not be joining Manchester United this summer, as the Germany international has committed his future to Borussia Dortmund.
The 2014 World Cup winner was thought to be one of the names at the top of Louis Van Gaal’s list this summer but Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc categorically ruled out any deal for Hummels, claiming the defender is part of the Bundesliga club’s plans for next season.
“It made sense that Mats was thinking about his future, but I always pointed out that we plan [for the future] with him,” Zorc told popular German football’s magazine on Thursday.
With Hummels now out of the equation, United are likely to turn their attention elsewhere, as Van Gaal seeks to add quality and experience to his back four ahead of next season.
