We’re on the Telegraph’s Top 10 Man Utd Websites

Tag: Site News @ 8:06 pm

“A site with real potential that landed a Nemanja Vidic exclusive earlier this season. The news services is often off the pace, though, so that needs sharpening up.”

Well, we just sneaked in at number 10. Potential? For a blog that’s been around for a while, I thought we were through with the potential part, going on to a plateau of mediocrity. But then, it’s hard to argue with the second part of their statement. The news services bit has been off the pace for a long time, which we should hope to improve upon. Anyway, a big thanks to all our readers.

Whilst all of the sites mentioned on the list are excellent, A Kick in the Grass, United Youth, and United Rant were some that, in my opinion, deserved to be on it.

  • In my completely biased opinion RedRants should have been a “Sky Four Team”. Regarding the bit about not being up-to-date on the news, don’t the readers normally discuss current or breaking news anyway?, so what’s the point of just regurgitating articles that apppear on Newsnow or other media vehicles. RedRants differentiates itself from other sites because it allows and promotes all views and doesn’t entertain knuckle dragging, chest thumping neanderthals.

  • Well done RR and the Red Rants community. Fully deserved.

  • Congrats to you Mr Red Ranter. You got an exclusive with the Terminator and now this. I’m thrilled to be associated with this site. And yeah maybe a bit more articles. The only reason I say that is because it reduces congestion and slow loading pages. 5 stars.

  • Now to all the harsh critics of Nani and Anderson how about a history lesson for y’all. Remember one C. Ronaldo when he came to to Old Trafford. He had an excellent debut and we expected a lot. He came to replace Becks. But we discovered that he was a very frustrating player. He was extremely selfish. He could take players on and not have the intelligence or self control to curb his stepovers to anything less than a hundred at a time. He would shot more rounds than an AK47 or UZI and still not find the target. Then next game score a screamer. The press called him a bag of tricks and air. Eye candy with no purpose. But he would play so many games and an extraordinary level of patience was granted him by Ferguson. He would frustrate his teammates with his self centred and bone headed decision making. He was allowed to play his game with no shackles and clearly came to enjoy himself on the pitch. He came to Old Trafford as a winger and Fergie played him as a winger. Then he suddenly broke through in 06-07. By 2009 he left as the best and most expensive footballer in the world. But we had to wait almost 3 years for us to get the result. It would take me forever if I have to start on the much maligned Darren Fletcher who most here thought was as useful as Park Ji Sung just a couple of years ago. Now most of us are convinced that we would have got a different result in Rome. So why can’t we give Anderson and Nani the same chance and ridiculous patience awarded to these other guys? Because we are fans who have an aggregate zero ability to see future development. If both Nani and Anderson are under different circumstances which give them an advantage over what Fletcher and Ronaldo aka Fergies’ sons, then I’m wrong. But I think the direct opposite is really the truth. I’m not so sure if Ronaldo had been played as sparingly as Nani was played last season he would’ve reached the level he is. If Fletcher had continued to be played in a position unnatural to him as Anderson was 4 most of his time here, would he have developed into a threat to Hargreaves’ place? I think not. Have some perspective before you just attack players and accuse them of not being “United material”.

  • I think that newsfeed comment was a subtle knock at the fact you actually sort through the news and decide what is important, rather than just recycling the telegraph RSS feed. Heaven forbid quality control

  • The lack of a “news service” here is irrelevant. You don’t need to be a news service to be a top United site — this site, more than any, is an example of a top United site that isn’t a news service and doesn’t need to be.

Hell, my only criticism of this site has nothing to do with the lack of a news service — it’s the lack of regular updates. I know, I know — real life and all that. But if RR was consistently updated, say on a daily basis — not with “news” but with solid RR content — it would be at the top of the list for all United sites.

As for Red Ranter’s shout-outs — United Youth HAS to be in the top 10. The other 2, I can take or leave. But United Youth is a must-read for all United fans.

  • I don’t see why Republik of Mancunia is ranked so high…
I used to frequent the site a lot (1200+ posts/comments) but then it seemed to be taken over by a bunch of 10-year-old members that argue over nonsense things or start threads about signing Messi, Kaka, and Benzema and other idiotic topics to that effect. Thus, I stopped logging on and I was turned to this site. Yes, RR doesn’t update daily, but 2-3 times a week is about as frequently as i can get on, too. So, I think this site should be ranked higher due to its great content and good discussions that rarely get out of hand (as it often happens on RoM).

  • @Lars: Well it is quite possible for someone to keep abreast of United news if you only read RoM’s articles. In terms of being a news source for Man Utd stuff, I think RoM trumps all other blogs. I can’t speak about the comments because I am not a regular on the comments, but you could consider its value for the content posted by Scott where he finds time for both news as well as opinion pieces. I think Scott deserves it as much as most of the names on that list.
