What happened To Djemba-Djemba?

While Seba Veron is often hailed as Sir Alex Ferguson’s most expensive mistake, Eric Djemba-Djemba is the one thrown in our faces as Fergie’s worst signing ever (hell, even Kleberson could play a bit).
He may have cost only £2.5m (and earned £75k / month) but as a player he was quickly found at the top level. The problem hadn’t been just his playing talents but also his temperament, and it’s a testament to Fergie’s loyalty to his players (or his troubles in offloading him) that Djemba stayed on United’s books for 2 years.
So where is he now? If anyone cares, Sniffing The Touchline has the full story (from Nantes to Qatar SC, via England).

It’s sad because the player came straight out of Africa, and when he was at Nantes one of the staff said he couldn’t comprehend money coming out of the walls, as he was viewing an ATM.
What was needed was a better advisor i’d say.

Nope, i don’t think this is the worst buy from SAF. Its prolly Massimo Taibi. He was the worst buy ever! Tho Djemba2 can isn’t that far away from being the worst ever too…

For every Djemba2 there’s an Anderson, for every Taibi there’s a Schmeicel. A lot of clubs operate a wholesale buying policy (Arsenal and recently Man City). Elano was bought for £8million and is probably worth about £12million at the smae time Bianchi was bought for £9million and is loan with a view to a £5million switch to Lazio, so net loss/gain £0. I think with the continued emergence of African players we’ll see a lot more Djemba2’s than we will Essien’s.

It’s ironic that despite the fact he is regarded as one of SAF’s worst signings, that I believe Djemba Djemba’s enforced withdrawal, with a rib injury, at half time against Porto in the CL at OT cost us the tie.

JB, that’s very interesting. He really did very well in that match, I remember. Fletcher too.
