I’d like to ask Sir Alex why he doesn’t FESS UP about lack of transfer funds, as a good many United fans do not believe that he didn’t buy because of any lack of value in the transfer market?

As I am long winded and could never just stop at one question I’d ignore the Betfair thing and just ask these five questions of the Gaffer.
1. I want the God’s only truth about the transfer money available and about what really happened with the Ronaldo money? (No lies and bullshit allowed)
2. Could you please tell me why you continually waste all our time by playing JS Park and before injury Anderson, when they are not United class?
3. When will you retire? (A definitive answer)
4. Who would be your top pick to replace you?
5. Why do you take the side of the corrupt Glazer Gang over that of loyal and righteous legions of fans?
And just for the sake of my ego and to inject a little more humor lets have this as a question also;
Do you plan on considering hiring that egotistical arrogant but highly intelligent and masterful football guru Grognard as a “Special Advisor to the Club” in matters pertaining to scouting, squad selection and tactics?
Hey, one needs to have the occasional fantasy to help cope with life.

@Grognard: I think Park is well worth his place in our 1st team. But that debate has been done.

@[OPTI]Madschester United: He’ll never be United material in my book mate. Let him prove me wrong. Two good games in a row hardly makes me feel all warm and fuzzy about him. Not when I think back to the many games in which his lack of skill and composure on the ball made me want to stick a fork in my neck and kick my tv. He has a lot of work to do before he is extricated out of my doghouse. At least he has a chance. Anderson on the other hand has permanent tenure in the doghouse.

In Manchester United News webpage, recently I red Sir Ferguson stated, that
because of the top form of Carrick, Shcoles and Fletcher, there is not chance Berbatov to be in the 1st team.
My question is: Is this your statement, or wrongly interpretation from a source?
Also, according to Rooney’s interview, which I red in the same webpage,
he stated, that he prefers shooting, than play passes, the way how Berbatov play, and that Rooney prefers be partner with Tevez.
My question is: Is this the reason why their partnership is not good enough?
Thanking you in advance.

@swapnil: As a squad player / role player he is fine. He has his uses. If we played Barcelona I’d start him as a shadow and pest on Lio Messi. He serves his purposes but he should never and I repeat never ever play in a game where we are in attack mode or where we are at home trying to entertain. Too often he has shown inadequacy on the ball, a poor shot, poor balance and bad mechanics and awkwardness on the ball that defies description.
The fact that he has had two or three strong games this season and a handful of great games in all his United career should not blind us or con us into believing that he is something special. He is on this team for two purposes. To be a pest and defensive shadow and as a marketing tool for the Asian market. Would I play him over Nani or Valencia in a game where I wanted to score goals? Not on your life. A wide position should rarely be wasted by a defense only plumber. It’s a position of skill, finesse and speed.
Now I have noticed in the last game that he seemed fairly comfortable playing inside more in what has become Giggs permanent position. He did a good job on Pirlo I admit. But I need to see much more. Why would I settle for him over a Krasic, Silva or Di Maria? Why would I settle for him over a Rodwell? He’s not starting material so I wished Fergie would stop presenting him as such.

@swapnil: I am keen to know Fergie’s retirement date because as much as I love him and respect him, I do not want him standing in the way of us possibly getting an outstanding replacement such as Mourinho or Blanc. As great as he is, he may indeed overstay his welcome. Even a great manager needs to know when it’s time and for the good of the team, he should set a definite date. This way it would alert interested and viable parties to not sign for Madrid or Man City or Liverpool. I am looking out for the long term future of this club and for me there is only two viable candidates. I badly want Mourinho as our next manager but I would also be happy with Blanc. Other than that, I see nobody good enough or available enough to take on the role. United must have a man with presence, personality, tactical genius and the knowhow on how to compete well in Europe. He also has to have the confidence, ego and mental strength to take on such a job and to replace a living legend. No easy feat.

How is Hargreaves doing, what a boost it would be to get him back. Him and Fletcher with either Scholes or Carrick in the central 3, Valencia on the right, Nani, Park or Giggs on the left, Rooney up top. Bring on Barca

@Fred the Red: Hargreaves done well, played 45mins. It’s just great to see the man playing again.
Hopefully he can put a run of games together without any problems and start to push his body more. Only then can we really judge if he is truly back for us and able to make more contribution.

@Taehr: Game just finished. Hargo was taken off after playing 45 mins in 1st half of the match. Not due to injury but just to ease his way back with minutes on the pitch. He’ll get more game time as his return and match fitness progresses. He wasn’t playing at full throttle for obvious reasons but showed good signs. Good touches & passing and showed the same energy, enjoying a descent amount of possession. Again it’s early days and it was a reserve game, which cannot compare to a first team game against premiership level players. We’ll get a better idea after more games and hearing from the man himself, but it’s encouraging.

Haha, just watched the challenges on the betfair website.
Interestingly Ben Foster won the hitting a moving target one (vs Rooney and Welbeck) despite the fact that his kicking abilities are not held in the highest regard

From the BuBCay:
Manchester United’s England midfielder Owen Hargreaves on his return to action in the reserves tonight after an 18-month injury lay-off:
“It was the first step in what has been an incredibly long ordeal. I’m very happy that I can be back with an 11 v 11 and a referee at least. It was great. I’m fit. I have been training incredibly hard, I have been doing everything I possibly could. I have seen the inside of the gym for about six hours everyday so I have had enough of it. I’d like to get back to doing football work. I will just train with the team and when the sharpness comes back and I start to feel better then I will consider playing a first-team game.”

My questions to Fergie:
1. What do you really think went wrong that night in Rome against Barcelona and if we come up against them again what will you do differently? (Obviously just between me and Fergie I don’t want Barca getting hold of that info!)
2. Who do we have lined up to replace EVDS in goal?
3. What are the players you most regret missing out on signing?
4. If you had £80 million and someone put a gun to your head and forced you to spend it who would you sign?
5. Who do you have lined up as long term replacements for Scholes and PLEASE do not say Anderson.

@colver: If i were Fergie, then my answers to your questions will be:
1>That night it went nothing wrong. We were just outplayed .The thing which went wrong was in the semi when Fletcher got red.
If we play them again,then
a>Fletcher will keep Xavi in his pocket
b>Park will try to take Messi out of the game
c>will use Rooney properly
2>Lloris
3>Zidane and Torres
4>Benzema ,Maria and Diego
5>Veloso/Behrami

There’s a big list of players Fergie missed out on signing but he has said that Paul Gascoigne was the one that got away.

@Fred the Red: From the Frost interview 07-08 season.
“Alan Shearer is one I wish I’d signed, but for me the most disappointing of all was Paul Gascoigne.
“He was the best player of his era, a breath of fresh air because he played with a smile, a cunning and aggression apart from all the great abilities he had he loved playing and winning.
“Around 1987, when Newcastle were bordering above relegation, we played them and my three central midfielders that day were Bryan Robson, Norman Whiteside and Remi Moses. All great footballers and he just tore them apart.
“When he nutmegged Moses and patted him on the head, I was out of the dug-out shouting ‘Get that f****** so-and-so’.

@Fred the Red: Ronaldinho was sensational, both Shearer and Gazza before they got the serious injuries were top notch players. After the injuries they lost a little bit, but if United had off got Shearer the first time they tried to get him then I think there would maybe have been one or two more European Cups on the record, sensational striker up until hr was about 26, Torres reminds me of him.

@Fred the Red: We’ve missed out on a few, more than probably we will ever know. Some were close to signing, others abandoned altogether. We’ve haven’t done too bad without them though .
Gascoigne, Shearer, Ronaldhinio, Batistuta, Robben, Essien, Mahamadou Diarra, Zidane, Gattuso, Tevez and Ljajic

alright folks, i would ask SIR Alex, how he deals with people like grognard questioning his ability all year round. and how good is it to prove novices wrong time and again. and ask him does he take pleasure in proving thickle fans wrong, especially those who think they are better mangers than him, even tho they could not manage a cup of tea. I would also hale him for giving united fans a season of hope considering what went on in the summer. and i would then bow to him, cause he is the true king of old trafford. nuff said. nobody does it better, look at chelsea. bring on the filth. mufc

@RicoTheRed: I hope you enjoyed that unnecessary personal dig at my expense. And what in Gods in name is being “THICKLE”? I don’t mind being called fickle but if I am considered “thick” then you know where you can stick your back handed insults mate.
At least I have the courage and confidence to come on hear and offer my opinions or criticism unlike some who show up once in a blue moon only to criticize the one they are most drawn to when it comes to reading this blog. You may hate what I have to say everyday, but you are compelled like an addict to my rants anyway. Admit it. Now go back into your room until you pop out again in six months or so.

I don’t think Shearer would have helped in Europe. Fergie screwed up in Europe because he always got the tactics wrong. The restrictions on foreign players didn’t help but I don’t think it would have made all that much difference. Anyway Shearer was dynamite in the league but I do not think he’d have made all that much difference on the European stage. After all we had Ruud, without a doubt one of the most prolific European strikers there is and a Champions League specialist but we still got undone by a combination of tactical errors and a weak defence.
Now Torres is another matter. Rooney and Torres AND Ronaldo on the same team would have been irresistible.
Personally Im pissed we missed out on Essien. Obviously Chelsea had all the money back then. But he is the only player who could have filled the gap Keane left. I also think Ballack would have fitted in better at us than Chelsea where he seems to have rotted.

Question for SAF:
“Why is Darren Fletcher the only Scot on the team. And does he prove useful in translating almost everything you say” ???

@colver: during the mid to late nineties we lost some matches in Europe were our finishing was poor, Dortmand and Monaco spring to mind. Also the year after we won it in 99 we should have killed the tie at the Bernabeau against Madrid. Shearer in my opinion would have been deadly for us during this period, but we will never know now. In his early years he was arguably the best striker in the world. I cant remember exactly but I think he done his knee then his ankle. After the second injury he was not as dynamic as he was so its hard to judge him as a Champions league player, coz when he and Newcastle played in it, he was not the force he used to be and Newcastle were not a top side. Dont forget, he was only about the 20 mark when SAF first tried to sign him.

@Redrich: Be glad we have one Scot on the team mate because that country just hasn’t been producing them for quite a while now. I remember in the 70′s and 80′s they were truly a tough opponent and even better than England. But how the mighty have fallen. TV money or lack of and a league that was to pig headed to change and adapt is what did them in. Fletcher is one of the few gems to come out of there and he would have been a bust had he not fallen under the tutelage of one Sir Alex Ferguson. I also thought James McFadden could have become great but he ended up playing for crap teams utilizing crap systems and not allowing him to develop properly as an attacking threat. I feel sorry for any great talent who’s career is halted because of the limitations of a pillock for a manager.
