    noon round up:
    Ronaldo backs England
Cristiano Ronaldo last night claimed he is desperate for England to pull off a Euro 2008 miracle – so he can have a rematch with Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney.
Ronaldo admits he would dearly love to face England at next summer’s European Championship in Austria and Switzerland.
“I want England to qualify for Euro 2008,” he said. “I want England and Portugal to be there because it would be for the good of the game and every fan wants the big teams at major tournaments.
“But most of all, I would want to play England again because it would be sensational after the spectacle at the last World Cup.
“The story with Rooney in the World Cup is forgotten. We are good friends, but I insist that I would never change my attitude.
“I would always do anything for Portugal when I play a game for my country.”
    John Cross, Daily Mirror

Elsewhere, it’s all about England and Steve McClaren, although The Sun have run quotes from an interview Ryan Giggs gave to the United Review matchday programme last Sunday. The Welshman spoke about getting closer to Sir Bobby Charlton’s United appearances record. Giggs said: “To play so many games for the club you’ve supported and pass the total of probably the greatest player this club’s ever had would be brilliant.”

in other news, reports sugest that chelski are to offer ronaldinho a £210,000 a week contract making him the highest paid player ever, he will be getting £30,000-A-DAY, slightly more than your average Dag ‘n’ Red player, and chelsea will only have to buy him for 10 million or less aparently at the end of the 07/08 season. teh barginzzzzzz.

im watching the stutgart bayern match on setanta right now, and i must say, the quality in this match is abysmal, compared to the EPL, are all matches like this?

Dan; You should know better than to judge a leagues abilities by one game. If you take Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelski out of the mix I personally I think the EPL is awful to watch unless we are watching Man United or Arsenal. Nothing worse than watching pointless long balls by Bolton against pointless long balls from Derby. Also, the worst teams in the Bundesliga don’t put up a Berlin Wall and refuse to attack when playing a giant like in the EPL. There are exceptions of course but most of the time even the poor clubs show attacking enterprise and ambition. Do Wigan or Derby?

Yes the Bayern game vs Stuttgart was crap but need I remind all of us at what a negative promotional disaster last year’s FA Cup was with the nation’s two best clubs. And that was a cup final. A show piece of the English game it was not. Would you want everyone in Germany or the rest of the world judge the EPL on that one clunker of a match? I think not.

I’m not claiming that the Bundesliga is better than the EPL. They do play attractive attacking football but they lack the spending policies of the EPL. In Germany all clubs except Bayern exhibit very strict fiscal responsibilty. Attendance in Germany is the best in the world but they don’t charge outrageous prices for tickets. Therefore there is a bridge of quality between them and the richer clubs of the EPL. But it’s not great. The big difference is that the EPL has 4 Bayern Munich’s while of course Germany have only one.

I am a hypocrite if I’d said swearing was not allowed. But I never banned swearing on this blog, as long as it’s not aimed at another fellow commenter. You have said this earlier too and I have responded to that comment then. I am being patient with you over here. Deal with it.

I vote that the comments policy be amended so that we can heap abuse on idiots. It’s only fair, I mean, after Macca’s out of a job it’s not like we’d have much to do during international breaks…

Why 10th Dec though? Isn’t that, like, a long time away?

  11. Red Ranter says: Reply to this comment

I wish that was possible Ahmed, but then you know… the thing about shit hitting the fan and all. :)

And Dec 10 is fine, I think. Unless I realize I could push it back.

I guess any question would require a little wikipedia search and I really don’t want to stretch my dear readers in this festive season. :) And what’s so odd with the email address? It’s [contests at redrants dot com] I took off the @ sign to keep automated computed bots from picking up the email address and sending me viagra advertising.
