Manchester United are back in Premier League action on Thursday night when we travel to Aston Villa for a 20:15 GMT kickoff.
Our fine form continued on Saturday with a 5-2 thrashing of Bournemouth at Old Trafford, and Leicester City’s draw with Arsenal on Tuesday means a win this week would move us to within a point of the top four.
Hosts Aston Villa have taken just two points from their five games since the restart, scoring just twice and are four points adrift of safety with five games to go.
Here’s the starting lineup I think Ole Gunnar Solksjaer will name:
Goalkeeper: David de Gea
Beaten at his near post for the opener over the weekend, David de Gea had been well protected in our first three games back, before a few dodgy defensive moments against the Cherries. The Spaniard hasn’t been at his best at all but fortunately Aston Villa are lacking any fire power so he shouldn’t be very busy at all tomorrow.
Defence: Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw
Victor Lindelof is a doubt for this game so I can’t see Ole taking any chances on him. Eric Bailly has got some game time under his belt and should replace the Swede to partner Harry Maguire in the middle. No reason why Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw would be benched unless the boss wants to rest either or both before Monday’s game against Southampton.
Midfield: Fred, Paul Pogba; Mason Greenwood, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford got back among the goals last weekend whilst Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes were excellent. Paul Pogba continues to show a lot of energy in the middle of the park and looked keen to score towards the end of the game. These four are all sure to start at Villa Park. I do expect one change in midfield though, and that is to rest Nemanja Matic ahead of Monday by giving Fred another start. The Brazilian showed good tenacity and passing when given a run out for the final half hour over the weekend.
Striker: Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial pulled off a class strike on the stroke of half-time versus Bournemouth and will continue up front as he’s in the form of his life and looking very happy in the process.
Here’s the team on paper:
