4-3-3: How Man Utd could lineup against Chelsea with 2 more signings

Manchester United are set to take on Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday 11 August in our first Premier League match of the new season.

We have already signed Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Swansea City and Crystal Palace respectively and continue to be linked with several other players during the summer transfer window.

Reports suggest Bruno Fernandes could be on his way to Old Trafford before the start of the new campaign, Leicester City’s Harry Maguire continues to be a hot target of ours and Sean Longstaff seems like he could be headed our way too.

Should we be successful in our chase of those three players, here’s how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could set the team up against Frank Lampard’s Blues on the opening day of the new season:

Goalkeeper: David de Gea
The Spaniard has yet to put pen to paper over a new deal at Manchester United, but rumours suggesting David de Gea is going to Real Madrid have certainly died down in recent months. It looks like Big Dave will be with us for at least another season.

Defence: Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw
We didn’t pay £50 million for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to sit on the bench; the England under-21 will certainly be our regular right-back this upcoming season. The problem in signing Harry Maguire would be that both he and Victor Lindelof are predominantly left-sided centre-backs. However, the England international has spent some time on the right-side at Leicester to make up for Ricardo Pereira’s inability to defend so it’s possible that he and the Swede would play together. Otherwise, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones could all partner Maguire. Luke Shaw has made the left-back role his own under Solskjaer.

Midfield: Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes
There’s still time to upgrade in the holding midfield role but we’re not strongly linked with anyone in particular currently, so Nemanja Matic could be in line to face his former club once again. Sean Longstaff’s energy in midfield would make him a direct replacement for the outgoing Ander Herrera. Bruno Fernandes would be excellent as the attack-most of this central midfield three. He’s both a playmaker and a goalscorer. To sign the Portuguese star we’d probably need to sell Paul Pogba first, so for time being I think the French international will remain in our side.

Attack: Daniel James, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial
Although he was predominantly played out on the left at Swansea, I sense we may have signed Daniel James to play on the right wing. We already have Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez out on the left. Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard are more experienced options though. Marcus Rashford will get the no ahead of Romelu Lukaku through the middle whilst I think Solskjaer’s faith in Martial will see the French international start the season down the wing.

Here’s the team we could have to face Chelsea on the opening day of 2019-20:
