6 absent for Man Utd against Chelsea

Manchester United will be without six first team players when we take on Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round at Stamford Bridge this evening.

We will be looking to join Watford, Brighton & Hove Albion, Millwall, Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Swansea City in this season’s quarter-finals.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to do it without half-a-dozen first-team players.

The caretaker manager confirmed during his pre-match press conference on Friday that both Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard suffered injuries in our defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night that will rule the attacking duo out for 2-3 weeks.

Alexis Sanchez is likely to start down the left wing and Juan Mata down the right as a result.

As well as in attack, a number of defensive players did not travel down to the capital with the first team on Sunday.

Most notably was Phil Jones, who also didn’t feature in the Champions League midweek. Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof was the centre-back pairing on Tuesday and could start against Chelsea this evening too. Chris Smalling is another option available to Ole.

Fellow centre-back Marcos Rojo has also missed the trip. The Argentine has yet to feature under the caretaker manager but is due back in first team training this week.

Full-backs Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian also remain sidelined. Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Diogo Dalot are all available.

The Manchester United squad that travelled to London to face Chelsea on Monday night as confirmed by the Manchester Evening News is as follows:

Goalkeepers: David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant
Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly
Midfielders: Nemanja Matic, Andreas Pereira, Scott McTominay, Fred, Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera
Attackers: Romelu Lukaku, Tahith Chong, Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata
