Barcelona to rival Manchester United in signing 23-year-old Swiss midfielder

Reliable German transfer journalist Christian Falk confirms that Barcelona will rival Manchester United and Chelsea to secure Denis Zakaria’s services.

United were front-runners to sign Zakaria earlier this year.

Zakaria is a very talented player with a wide variety of skillset at his disposal.

A player like Zakaria is deemed to be a perfect replacement for Manchester United’s current No. 6, Paul Pogba.

It’s now a well-known secret that Pogba wants to play for Real Madrid. And he might end up being a galactico sooner than later.

Having triggered the optional one-season renewal in Pogba’s contract, Manchester United have already extended Pogba’s stay at Old Trafford by a future year.

And if the Manchester-based club fail to tie him down with a long-term contract extension, the best thing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side could do is sell Pogba for a viable and bring in a satisfactory replacement.

The 23-year-old Swiss international is a very versatile individual, possessing the ability to demonstrate his traits both as a midfielder and a defender. Tough, he is a defensive midfielder by trade.

In Zakaria, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would get a workhorse who could play in different midfield positions.

He has played 96 senior games Borussia Mönchengladbach so far, having registered eight goals and six assists for the club.

The numbers are actually the true illustration of Zakaria’s evolution as an out-and-out midfield general.

The Swiss midfield maestro’s contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach will run out next summer.

And there has not been any significant improvement in regard to his contract renewal at the German club.

However, Manchester United will face firm challenges from the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea while chasing the signature of the midfielder next summer.

But it is for sure that a player of Zakaria’s ilk doesn’t come in abundance these days.
