Bruno Fernandes really wants to play for Manchester United – Portuguese football expert

The editor-in-chief of Portuguese sports daily O Jogo has claimed that Manchester United are close to sealing a deal worth £60m (€70m) to land the signature of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.

The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford during last summer’s transfer window but a deal never materialised with United reluctant to meet the asking price for the midfielder.

However, with the recent injuries to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba, United are understood to have revived their pursuit of the versatile player and leading Portuguese journalist Filipe Dias has claimed that the club are leading the hunt to sign the former Sampdoria man.

He added that Sporting have financial concerns which need to be resolved and the Primeira Liga outfit would be prepared to accept a £60m package in the form of instalments (without add-ons) for Fernandes, who is keen on a move to the Red Devils.

“The situation has changed since last summer. They didn’t accept a deal with Tottenham for 70m euros but that would have been paid with 40m euros upfront and then another 30m,” he told on Sky Sports’ Transfer Window Podcast.

“Now Sporting will accept 70m Euros, but paid in instalments. United is a club that Bruno Fernandes really likes in England, it’s a club that he really wants to play for. Talks have been intensified in the last couple of days, so we’re kind of expecting that it might be close.”

The Fernandes story has been picking up over the past few days and a recent report from The Mail indicated that the player’s representatives had met up with Ed Woodward and Sporting president in London regarding a possible move.

As such, there is certainly some truth to the ongoing transfer talk and hopefully, the Red Devils can get a deal over the line at the earliest possibility such that they can concentrate on signing any other player of interest before the transfer deadline approaches.
