Confirmed: 2 injuries for Man Utd vs Liverpool + Martial & Lingard update

Manchester United will look to put a dent in Liverpool’s 2018-19 Premier League title bid when we host the Merseyside club at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were held 0-0 at home by Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night but did not allow the German giants a single shot on target throughout the game.

This game came 24 hours after our comfortable 2-0 win at Chelsea in the FA Cup where the Blues didn’t produce a single shot on target after the 11th minute.

We head into the weekend with two confirmed injuries – Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian. It’s not a big loss as neither full-back has featured much under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or for us in general this season.

The big injury news comes in the form of Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard. Both forwards were taken off in the first half of our 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League more than a week ago and were ruled out of our trip to Stamford Bridge at the start of the week.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning, Ole announced that both Martial and Lingard have a chance of making their return this weekend.

Ole told MUTV:

“I hope and think Anthony will be ready and I hope Jesse will be ready because it’s two different injuries.

“So maybe more hope than think, with Anthony as well, but he’s got a chance. Anyway, we still hope Jesse could be ready. Let’s see. We’ve still got a couple of days’ training left and they need to be part of it.”

However, the Norwegian confirmed that neither player has taken part in training so far this week:

“They’ve not been part of it yet, but they’ve been doing some recovery work and Anthony’s was a different muscle, of course, so we think that he might be ready and hope that Jesse will.”

That’s not a good sign in terms of making their return to the starting XI, but both could certainly be among the substitutes by the sounds of it.
